#Failure to boot consistently

I installed using the version before the current one (3.0.2 i think?) and updated to the latest. I do not dual boot on this computer; 2 drives, both SSDs.
Whenever I power my computer on, one of like 3 things happens
Go past boot into omarchy/linux screen, then it complains the second thing has nothing found, y to continue:
Kernel panic (I have just booted up now, happened twice)
Emergency shell (happened once so far)
Asks for root password & boots

I'm slightly annoyed that I have to gamble for booting, if screenshots are wanted I'll pick some up next time these things happen. Should've had them beforehand but I'm an idiot either way, still fairly new to linux as a whole & switched from win10 pro last saturday.

Assuming you're in now, can you share the results of efibootmgr with me?

wide lark
#

yeah sure

#

"EFI variables are not supported on this system"

#

im using an old pc, asus A170 mobo iirc?

#

i5 6600, 1070 GTX

storm hornet
#

Oohh..you're on BIOS then

#

Can you cat /etc/default/limine and share that?

wide lark
#

yep

storm hornet
#

That all looks right. It should show you the limine screen for a few seconds then go into Omarchy if you don't do anything

wide lark
#

so just let it autoboot rather than enter to boot manually?

storm hornet
#

Enter does the same thing

#

Just bypasses the 3sec timer

#

After that is when you have all of the weirdness happen?

wide lark
#

yes

#

you are free to ping me if it helps with response time

storm hornet
#

That's strange. Next time it happens, capture what happened and @mention me in here so I can come back and diagnose with some details.

Hard to really say what's going on without being able to catch it in the act.

It's a bit shaky, hands aren't very steady sorry. Tried to at least move it slow to show details

#

Did a reboot & now in emergency mode...
Not sure if it's worth re-flashing from the USB ISO

wide lark
#

I've been trying to boot for the past 20 minutes or so with no luck

#

And now emergency mode appears more

#

I'm gonna re-flash the ISO and hope for the best at this point

Let me know how it goes, and thank you for sharing.

It looks like somehow your files on /boot were modified OR an update ran and the mkinicpio rebuild failed.

### Boot Integrity Check
### Enable BLAKE2 checksum verification for bootable files. (yes|no)
ENABLE_VERIFICATION=yes

The message is the integrity check on the files

#

Given the age, flakiness and kernel panic, you may want to do a disk check on this drive as well.

New flash created a decently working one; which I believe is in a result of disabling CSM. (And probably the install being off)

Issue now is two installs. I need to remove the old but I'd like to keep my files/keybinds etc; is it possible to move those over & remove the rest of the other Onarchy install?
