#Omarchy to bare minimum?

Hi everyone — I’m new to Arched‑based systems, and I installed Omarchy because it looked simple and came with helpful defaults. But I want a more minimal setup — stripping out applications I don’t need and keeping only essentials.

I was hoping to use a “bare mode,” but I can’t find it (or it seems removed in my version). Does anyone know:

Is there an alternate way now to install or convert to a bare or minimal mode in Omarchy?

If not, what’s the recommended safe process / steps / scripts to remove extra apps and their dotfiles without breaking the system?

Thanks in advance for any guidance! 🙏

Bare mode was removed in the Omarchy 3.0 release. The Latest ISO dosent include such thing.

I believe if you install manually this can still be done.

But this isn’t the Omarchy way:

#

To remove anything you don’t want. Open the menu and go to Remove, search for the package and remove it that way.

Bare mode is gone from every method of installation. I'd suggest just creating a simple tailor script to remove the things you wish and add the things we don't include.

The reality with any "bare mode" is that it'll never be bare enough for some and always too bare for others and in both cases; not in line with the goal of this project and more work to maintain which takes away from more productive work. So it's best to let folks tailor as they see fit post-install.

Ok understandable

One more question, I can't seem to find how to uninstall some GUI? I don't find the package associated with it in the Omarchy Remove Menu, is there a better way to do this than to manually go through all the packages? Also does the remove also clear dependencies?

Depends on what it is

for example, I don't us electron nor I plan to use it in the near future. Yet I can't seem to find its package. Same with OpenJDK.

or Zoom

just removing .desktop from ~/.local/share/applications should doo it

celest portal
#

ok but its not showing in the webapps when I go into omarchy menu, is this normal behaviour?

lean violet
# celest portal will do, thanks
version=1.0
name=zoom
comment=zoom
exec=omarchy-webapp-handler-zoom %u
terminal=false
type=application
icon=/home/rishhh/.local/share/applications/icons/zoom.png
startupnotify=true
mimetype=x-scheme-handler/zoommtg;x-scheme-handler/zoomus```
#

thsi is .desktop registry for zoom

#

you can remove binary omarchy-webapp-handler-zoom if you wish I guess

celest portal
#

ok, thank you

lean violet
#

~/.local/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-webapp-handler-zoom

celest portal
#

why does this binary not show up in omarchy packages?

#

its not a package I guess?

#

is there a more in depth guide on how omarchy is structured I can look up? Apart from th manual?

lean violet
#

it's just a bash script

#

to launch zoom as webapp

celest portal
#

okok thank you vry much

Electron and OpenJDK are dependencies so you won't want to go ripping those out. If they're there; something is installed that's using them.

IIRC; OpenJDK is a dependency of limine-mkinitcpio-hooks which is core to the boot config. Electron is in things like Obsidian or even Discord if you use the AUR version.

ok did not know that, thanks for the help guys ❤️

There’s not. We’d need to add something to add the proper ones based on detecting that model
