me and my friend are trying to mod on his pc but everytime we try to export its says export failed? we have done everything antgrass said in the video
and yes he has the patreon
For me reinstalling the unity editor worked, I probably forgot to install the windows build support. Can you maybe share the error message?
Yeah, likely what @remote burrow said. You need Windows IL2CPP module installed.

Window>Rendering>Lighting>Environment and fog settings are at the bottom
That is just a scene view toggle for editing. When you export (and when i fix it) the fog will still be there
@feral patrol feel like you mentioned this before but were you able to fix the shiny ground texture ?
no, not yet, I fixed and added all textures to ground material and no luck, still shiny, flat and only albedo/bc is showing
there is a smoothness setting on the layer options

my terrain tools are also acting weird. For some reason the screen only updates once I stop sculpting, which makes it almost impossible to make anything
Will probably use an older unity for making the terrain, since I like the old tools more anyways

Are all of your files in your mods reference folder, if not, the builder might not be including those files

I have the same settings (except the preserve tree prototype setting) and it works for me, didn't you change anything except the terrain settings?

have basically just had to export it and bring it into a whole new project but almost back

i must have changed something on a project level thats fucked it all
cause even a new scene within the old project was also fucked
yeah its compiling shader variants. sometimes i have to wait 7/8 hours in the main game build 🙂

yeah tried different brushes too. I think it just doesnt like when the brush is this small?
nah nvm doesnt even really work larger brush size either. Only way it does anything is me increasing the blur radius to 10 but then thats destroying everything
I usually have my brush pretty small. I've never seen that. Must be a Unity bug or something.

why would you ever use anything on that slider
I use values from 1-5 typically. I raise it if I need it to be more aggressive with smoothing. If a lower number isn't leveling something how I want it, then you have to raise that value.

I'm doing the mod setup, and my game keeps getting stuck on the loading screen for the local mod I just built. Any ideas? (0n Mac)
That's the blur radius that does that not scattering (which was the issue)

I believe so, although it said "Mac Build Support il2cpp" not windows.
Yeah that's right, unsure what else the issue might be then. Someone else had this issue on Mac in VC and I can't remember what sorted it
I had the same issue, what caused it was that I chose the wrong folder for the mod asset directory, so maybe check that? Also check if you have your scene, terrain, and assets in the correct folder.
It looks like I had the directory for the assets wrong as well. Once I updated that, I was able to get past the loading screen, but the terrain is not visible lol.

did the terrain from the sample scene from the tutorial show up when you loaded it in the game?
nah, that's what I am trying to load in actually. I made some mods to it with the sculpt tools.
I wanted to make sure that would work before moving to a new terrain

well in that case ii would suggest to start from absolute scratch once agaiin annd really follow the the guide step by step, then load into the scene and check if anything shows up at all. then you can be sure you diid everythng riight . save it and go from there

Just an update - I tried to follow the tutorial a few more times and still no luck. The terrain exists in the loaded map, but the textures aren’t loading in.
Not sure what to do at this point lol.

OK you are not going to believe this
I deleted all the mod maps that were not working from my mod folder (none of them worked last night),
So I just did a rebuild of the latest one that didn't work so I could show the lack of textures...
And it worked.
OK so next issue - I imported Terrain Tools but I'm not seeing any changes in my inspector. I tried deleting/reimporting but that didn't change anything
Any steps I am missing?

Toms tools shown in asset folder, but the inspector does not have the stroke options, etc

Yeah not sure what your installing but you do it from asset manager then click the unity registry on the left bar

uninstalled the extra asset stuff id added to the file
now trying the export setting to go for file size rather than build time
did cut it by 400mb
how much longer did it buiild compared to the previous settiing?

How are you placing them into scene? If you're doing it through the detail or trees tab then they won't.
If placing normally do you have mesh colliders enabled in the inspector
By instead dragging and dropping the prefab into the scene from the assets folder

Well from wherever they are located. Just drag from the bottom panel and drop into the scene view

I accidentally hit build and then I canceled because I didn't want it and now everything is gone, is there a way to revert it?

I had this too and couldn't find a way back think it only happens when you havent saved the file before hitting build, as i've been able to cancel builds fine since.
not really sure it's the only thing i could think of being the difference back when it happened to me
I started using the Unity version control to have back ups after it
You can possibly check the temp back up folder see if theres anything in there
Find the Temp folder: Open your project's root folder and navigate to Temp (\rightarrow ) __BackupScenes (or __EditModeScene).
Copy the file: Copy the file inside (usually named 0.backup or similar).
Rename the file: Rename the extension from .backup to .unity
It also didn't show if I want to save so I had saved, maybe i just need to make it unhidden

Step 5: Configure the Render Pipeline
Go to Edit > Project Settings > Graphics.
In the URP folder (included in the mod tools package), select any render feature assets that show a warning arrow and click Attempt Fix. This removes missing render features that modders don't have access to (such as water rendering).
Restart Unity after running Attempt Fix — this is required before you can assign the render pipeline asset.
Once Unity has restarted, go back to Edit > Project Settings > Graphics and set the Default Render Pipeline to URP_Default_Renderer.asset.

Not sure what else to tell you other than it may be best for you to start with a brand new project and do the steps through again

I figured it out if it happens to anyone. just go to "Your Project">Assets>FastMesh>Scripts then delete the SceneViewText.cs it worked for me.
ok so is this fast mesh a unity plugin you downloaded? Cause yeah this will be the reason its broken. A lot of unity scripts/plugins don't play ball with the mod kit
Just started setting up unity to make maps, and everything has worked so far except for playing the map
Whenever i try load it just gets stuck on loading screen
tried restarting and waiting over 10 mins to see if its just slow, please help!
for real though, i would say start a new project, follow https://discord.com/channels/1386501834931437720/1502749586379243622 step by step, and when you loaded in the sample map. build this one and test if that worsk to make sure you didnt fuck anythiing up in the setup proces
This also happened to me, check if you have the correct folder set for mod asset directory, and if you have all your assets there (like the terrain, scene file, textures...).

Did you already delete your old project or can you still open t?
Because if you can stiill open iit, and your new project works, you can basiically export your old scene folder as an asset and reimport it into your new scene

What you have open now only works with MicroVerse (don't recommend getting if you're just starting out). Youll want to use the raw stamps on the terrain

I wanted to revisit a project of mine and needed a Canyon that I could paint on the terrain. In order to be flexible I created terrain stamps and thought I'd put them on the Unity Asset Store for others to benefit from. If you use them, please do share pics and videos of your work 😊

wondering if anyone else has come across something similar or knows how do fix:
Everytime i "build" my map, the size goes up significantly, even if i removed objects or added very little
its at 1.2gb now, even tho I have barely any more assets than before, where it was only 600mb

Ohhh wait nvm i think i figured it out
the heightmap only actually becomes higher quality after you edit something nearby it, so it was a large area with very little triangles before but was divided into the high quality
@lyric stag @open plinth you guys probably know the answer to this.... is there a way to exclude the backdrop-scenery .obj with a sattelite image slapped on top from the render distance limits? it is pretty low poly and should not really impact performance even if it is rendered in full...
That looks like camera clipping, you should be able to change the clipping planes far and near values of the camera in the inspector window. Although it's also possible that you can't change that with a mod, in which case the developers would have to change it. yeah ii triied all these commonly suggested things, like clipping planes, urp render distances, etc. but there appears to be a runtime thing going which hardcaps that to 1000
@royal chasm how did you enable the hitboxes for the fence pack btw?
i forgot how you did it and im having the same issue
most likely need to add either a box collider or a mesh collider to the prefab

down from almost 1.8gb, not too bad id say.
now that i read a bit into it, i think even big maps can comfortably be decorated with stuff, even in this 2gb limit. so im a biit less worried now
Ive got mine down to 1.5gb as it turns out I had alot of 8k and 4k textures, still gonna have to compress even more eventually tho as I add more decor
