#gabrielmmzx's Feedback - Useless Jokers

Honestly, that could work too.
And would be alot easier to do instead of buffing everything
like, giant is too powerful to be freely equipped ... so useless jokers are too weak to take up a possibly valuable random drop pls?
Yup, that seems fair. I'm pretty sure Dwarf also can only be acquired in the middle of a mission, just like Giant.
i feel like the useless jokers should be unlocked by default and take 0 joker slots
they are meme jokers anyway
This doesn't fix the issue that I have with them randomly dropping in the middle of missions and providing no value for the most part. That's why I either want all of them to be buffed, or as AppleTank suggested, just make them no longer spawn in the middle of missions.
What they do is synergise with Joker Dealer as well as being silly and fun. No change needed.
Literally every Joker in the game synergizes with Dealer and or Hoarder. It stops being quirky and silly when I do a Nightmare run and the first 3 Jokers I get are memes. Change is needed. Making them do anything useful is better for literally everybody.
I'm sure you're gonna appreciate when the developers starts adding things like a legendary Joker that permanently applies the mushroom effect to your screen and does nothing else. So quirky and funny and silly and fun and different.
Maybe a joker that scales off the number of common jokers you have could be interesting
You don't need the on map joker drops to beat Nightmare. They make it easier, but a good build and good movement and aim already do the bulk of the work.
Yes, I know. I'm sure someone is gonna eventually be able to beat Nightmare without any upgrades and Jokers equipped, but that's besides the point. I don't wanna see a Joker that has a funny quirky meme effect that doesn't help you as a random drop. You can keep it funny and all but just make it do something , anything . Make them literally just give a +1% movement speed and nothing else. You can keep the funny rubber ducky noise and actually make the thing useful too.
Using souls or gold to permanently upgrade the 'useless' jokers could be a neat idea. Chickshot -> Cluckshot: shoots out some angry chickens.** Party Shot -> Party Foul:** confetti has a chance to damage nearby enemies
1% movement speed or similar isn't going to make any practical difference. It'll just make you, in particular, feel better.
It makes it go from doing nothing to doing something, but whatever. I hope they add 10 new Jokers for all rarities that makes quirky effects that never helps the player, seems like you love that sort of thing.
I think the current number is fine and not hurting anything, and they bring great amusement to a few of my friends. I like Party Shot because positive feedback on weakpoint hits is really nice. It would be an abuse of the joker system to add them to other rarities.
You are already given positive feedback via a different sound effect and color on the damage number on hitting weakpoints. My point isn't to remove them. You can keep the funny and quirky effects but just make them actually do something that helps the player. Or, as AppleTank suggested (which is better and easier to do than what I asked for), just make them not drop randomly in the middle of missions.
Imagine if Gold Tooth was just a +10% chance to make enemies drop fake gold that you can't collect instead of what we have right now? Would you prefer that because it's funny and quirky instead of what we currently have? It would absolutely be very funny, I at least think so, but would it really be a good idea? If this game didn't have roguelite mechanics it wouldn't be a problem, but getting it as a random drop doesn't feel good at all.
I'm fine with the game being like that, we literally have a gigachad meme in the game. That's fine and all, but the moment it starts to affect gameplay and not help the player is where I start to question if that's really a good idea.
- I like even more positive feedback. It makes the dopamine go brrrr
- Many full-blown roguelike games have drops that are useless or even outright negatives, and in those your character starts with nothing. In the roguelite context here, you have everything you need to win when you spawn in.
- There are so many places on every map to get jokers. A couple useless jokers don't hurt your ability to do anything.
- Fake gold, which breaks an implicit promise to the player, is extremely distinct from something that does something silly. Not the same design concept at all.
- "It doesn't feel good at all" is completely subjective. My wife is thrilled when she gets the stupid ducky card, and I'm totally indifferent when I get it. You are not a representative sample.
