So I will say these based off a sort of playstyle/archetype like how cactus is the engineer archetype. I have in mind as I don’t have the brainpower to make entire spellbooks

EARTH - SUPPORT - THE VANGUARD
Earth is what I will have be the tank archetype focused on basically reducing as much incoming damage as possible all the while making the enemies defense break.

ICE - UTILITY - SET UP & SLOWDOWN KING.
Ice on its own won’t do much besides the obvious slow down your foes and/or freeze em solid. But the real Nuts and bolts of ice is what happens when you start comboing the shit off of it like a fireball is potent yes. Fireball + acid more so. But fireball + acid + frozen enemies. Congrats you got direct shipping to hell.

OUTLAW - Damage - Glass cannon/walking arsenal
You want damage but yet the pre existing options don’t offer enough. Your insane joker build that reduces your health by a lot isn’t high reward enough as it is? OUTLAW will fix that as you whip out the arsenal to deal boatloads of non elemental damage rather it be with a handcannon or a TNT rocket launcher.

Considering the current set up:

  • Pyro - high damage fire
  • Acid - damaging acid + slow
  • Elec - spread enemy to enemy + movement/positioning
    -# duplicate (portal/comboing)
  • Voodoo - support heal/curse
  • Cactus - offense and defense summons

Additionally, the magic system highlights magic synergy. If the magic won't synergize some way, prob not ideal option.

Acid and Ice would have a shared attribute of slowing, so I'd imagine Ice would need to be greatly weaker in damage, but greater in slow. perhaps one or two spells would outright stun freeze an enemy(s) for set time. Single target for longer; AOE for shorter.

  • Melt ice = fire + ice = fog. Fog maybe would have enemy lose aggro and run random direction until out of fog. Idk acid and Elec combo. Voodoo maybe spawn floating candles on fog. Mino would have slow blasts

Earth spells would increase damage targets take, but also reduce damage to player. I can see the former, shatter the "defense" of enemy.

Reduce incoming damage I am unsure specifics. Maybe Earth wall, but Wallo exists. Wall spell maybe last longer

  • Idk how Earth wall could combo. Earth + Mino = blast that increase damage taken.

Not sure if Outlaw aligns with the magic card thing. 3 are (roughly) "elemental" magic, voodoo spiritual, and cactus is simple poof cactus. All magic in some sense.

Okay outlaw was purely me being a fan of the gun wizard idea where yknow the magic is just a bigger gun. But for an earth wall you can have it be a different kind of wall like a dome shield that has a tree in the middle. Giving the dome of protection but also just Earth would be a good way to implement armor in whatever form one could see rather it be temporary % based like 20% less damage taken for 5 seconds. A shield icon like you have 5 free hits of any strength. Or extra “HP” basically anything that would allow you to get hit more often and not be needing a revive

Acid + Ice. Simple a Very Painful DoT Explosion and Fog

Cause why not if cacti can make lightning shoot out in 6 directions why not make Acidic fog Ice bombs

Was just thinking about how an ice floor spell would make enemies slide not slow; but maybe an acid +
ice floor = ground slow. Could be neat

I was wondering what Earth reducing incoming damage would be like. I can't lie, when I read Earth, I was thinking more in classic Rock element than fantasy Nature; should have puzzled that out from "support"

Ice floor could have enemies have bad traction/arresting momentum (idk how that would be coded) or allow player to slide around in zone. This would then allow acid combo to make ice floor = slow floor. That's just my random idea

Elec + Ice; no clue haha. Ice conduct elec poorly realistically; but even that side, not sure how interact

Well actually, Elec commonly duplicates the spells, so we would need specific ice spells to better theorycraft Elec combo

Hmm, actually, since Fire + Ice is fog*, Elec + Ice (floor) could match Acid + Ice floor, but low Elec damage over time instead of slow

Not sure how to say, but like "why does Earth + ice specifically do this when X + Y"

ice plus earth could be imprisoning the enemies in an ice and earth cage where the enemy has to break out

could match the earth defense thing and the ice slowing

Honestly yeah that combines both aspects pretty well

plus it could be balanced with you not being to kill the enemy and it instead deals damage to the cage if it is too strong

or if it is too weak the cage could deal more damage once it breaks if you dealt damage on it
