Can you use mods like a save editor to skip progress and play normal lobbies without cheats active? I think once you edit a save file or cheat/mod to skip progress you should be stuck to cheats/modded matchmaking on that specific save otherwise it kinda kills the grind, especially considering EA saves will carry onto release.

If your sole purpose of playing the game is getting bigger numbers so you can boast to other people, this may not be your game.

Using a custom save file is completely upto the choice of the user. By default a person can enjoy the entire progression and unlocks without any mods.
