#✅ - Have used 0 Spec requests, but blocked from proceeding due to overage limit hit

Based on the current billing model, I should at least be able to use my Spec requests when all Vibe requests have been used.
Spec Requests are when you execute tasks within Kiro's structured development workflow. Here's how it works: you start with vibe requests to create your requirements and design documents. After those have been generated, Kiro presents a list of tasks to start building the project. Each one of those tasks is roughly equivalent to a single spec request, although it can vary depending on complexity.
Here are some scenarios, assuming a spec task has average complexity:
[Updated] Starting a task directly from your tasks.md file will be 1 spec request If you run multiple tasks at once (i.e., "Execute task 1-3), each task executed will be one spec request. [Updated] Executing subtasks consumes 1 spec request per subtask plus 1 vibe request for coordination (Task 2 with subtasks 2.1 and 2.2 = 2 spec requests + 1 vibe request)

tldr: only start task count as spec request.
I was expecting unlimited so wasn't monitoring the usage. What you are saying implies that you need to use your Spec requests first because you can't practically do Spec development without also consuming Vibe requests. This is a very obvious design error. The user should not be expected to spend more effort on managing token consumption than productive work.
you have the option to edit the tasks.md and put your prompt there instead in chat.
It is not unlimited as stated in https://kiro.dev/blog/free-until-september-15/
Overages are temporarily capped to 1,000 vibe requests and 200 spec requests during September. If your credit card gets charged for overages, we will refund it at the end of September.
That's not a practical solution. That's jumping through hoops to conform to the application. The application should conform to the user.
There will be changes on how pricing work so expect changes this month.
We have been listening to your feedback, and it has been very valuable to inform how we evolve the Kiro pricing model. Based on your input, we will be announcing updated pricing in the coming weeks with and intend to roll out new pricing after September 15. Before we roll out the new pricing changes, we will notify you of the upcoming changes so you can plan accordingly.
