Hi everyone! 👋 I’m new to Kiro IDE and just getting started — excited to be here! I’ve already opened one of my existing projects in Kiro and used the Agent Steering to generate the initial Product, Structure, and Tech files. It’s a great start, but I’d like to take it further.

I’m now looking to go beyond the basics and make a more advanced Agent Steering to cover the full scope of my project more deeply. For having a full complete and detailed overview, which helps me to take my project from there as base, cleaning and starting on a strong base.

Any advice, best practices, or examples for crafting more powerful or custom steering prompts would be super helpful 🙏

Kiro is so limited its really hard to dig deep into it. However, The initial steering docs were a good start but you have to give it more detail. For example as Kiro was developing the code for a feature it did not realize that I was using stateless lambda functions. It created a pattern that wasn't compatible. I had to update my steering docs to make sure it understood that I was using stateless architecture. Then I reran it and it worked great. Sometimes you have to see how it codes and then figure out how to steer it in the correct direction.

Do you have a best practice prompt works with Kiro to reran the steering with updates !?

Kiro read my codebase and gave a good start to the steering docs. As I allowed it to code a task I could see the issues that it was happening. I didn't have the entire steering doc recreated I just tell it to specifically add the issues I saw. This made me think through other potential issues and I would just tell Kiro to add them and it would update the correct documents.

• Be specific and clear
• Structure your content
• Use file references - Link to important files to provide context
• Consider inclusion patterns - Use front-matter to control when steering is applied
• Keep it focused -should have a clear purpose
• Use multiple files - Create separate steering files for different concerns
