mushrooms are used for making fall seeds, eating when you need energy while mining or fishing, producing money (which is easily enough to buy lots of fruit trees within a couple seasons btw), etc

fruits are used when you can’t be bothered to walk the 15 tiles to the cave more than once a week or to walk across a quarter of the map to Pierre’s to buy a fruit tree

tldr fruits definitely don’t have more utility
