You need a ton of energy for the mines, and time, and you have to progress with the wizard to get him gifting. If you want the fruit bats you can't do the mushroom cave, and if you want the mushroom cave, you can't do the fruit bat.

Yeah everything is quite challenging in the beginning. Everything takes energy and your tools suck. But just keep grinding to overcome the difficulties.

If it makes you feel better, you'll eventually be able to get multiple of a certain item that increases your energy, and soon you'll barely even need to worry about it

As for enemies, they'll always be challenging and you'll always feel really weak, especially health-wise, but like Gemma said, you just gotta overcome the difficulties
(I typically just avoid them at all costs)

You can unlock free weapons as you progress in the mine too, so you won't always be stuck with a rusty ahh sword
