the first trip's goal is just to get a prismatic shard for a better weapon, so don't get something too expensive - steel falchion is good enough, tho obsidian edge is fine if u don't want to spend extra
||aim to get as deep as possible, and avoid unnecessary combat - you wanna bomb iridium nodes so u can maximize ur chances of getting a shard
deeper = more iri nodes||

it also depends on the fish you're trying to catch as they have different catching "patterns"

some are really difficult

you can make it easier on yourself both by leveling up Fishing, and getting better equipment (such as a better Fishing Rod or Bobber)

these make the fishing bar larger or even have it magnetize to the fish

you can do both at the same time and i am saying that fishing falls off in the lategame in the sense that is is an activity you have to focus on to make money - in the lategame you can simply load machines that you didn't have access to prior while tending to your other daily chores/quests, whereas to primarily make money out of fishing, your whole day has to revolve around a single activity - fishing (and smoking)

i'm genuinely not sure what daily chores/quests will take that long esp. with more automation towards mid and late game, and more importantly, you can always start fishing at whichever time you want to, at 2pm or at 10am, it is still a good money making method, that doesn't change anything, even a 6-8 hour fishing session can still net you some gold comfortably - you also smoke the fish as you are fishing, it is not a 2 step process

it's not an "either/or", it never is, many of us diversify how we make money, instead of doing 1 method, i'm not abandoning my starfruit wine just because i have some fishing sessions, for obvious reasons

all i'm saying is that this can still make you good money, and it remains a solid money-making method, you don't have to sacrifice other aspects of the game just to use it (and this is just lava eel setups, i didn't include legend ponds which opens up more moneymaking potential)
