if you are at a high enough level - you are casting far enough - there's a higher chance of you getting quality fish

you can get iridium quality fish with a starter (bamboo) rod - the more advanced rods don't change anything about your cast distance

Anyone got any fishing tips? I am so gosh dang awful at it. Im so close to trying to hunt down a mod for it 😭

I belive i am a level 2 in fishing. And I use the training pole cause it's the only thing I have the tiniest chance of catching this one fish on

you can eat foods that temporarily increase your fishing level (e.g. trout soup, sea jelly), higher fishing level = larger bar size

willy sells trout soup! and sea jelly is something you can fish up from the ocean, you can check the saloon for dish of the day as well

Fish have a lof of different difficulties to catch, some of them hardly move on the mini game but others are almost impossible.

if you want to passively increase your fishing level (ie. w/o doing the minigame) , there are 3 things you can do - they are all slow going, but they are options that you can consider -

1. build a fish pond, and throw a fish in - fish can be from e.g. traveling cart/trash can etc. - by collecting roe., you can gain fishing experience
2. alternatively, you can complete the crab pot bundle by foraging for e.g. mussels etc., rock crabs in the mines drop crabs, and this grants you 3 crab pots - (or once you reach level 3 fishing you can craft/buy them), every time you collect something from your crab pot you gain fishing experience (you need to use bait in crab pots)
3. fishing experience books - can be gotten from doing any activity, e.g. tree chopping (small chance), or bought at either traveling cart or bookseller

fishing is something that gets easier the higher level you are, once you reach level 6 - you unlock the iridium rod, and that allows you to use tackle that can make your fishing experience easier

Even though leveling up and gear helps, its also just getting used to the mini game and the controls. So just relax and give it a few in game hours every now and you'll get the hang of it.

haha yeah time flies by quickly, i would use community center bundles as a guideline on what to focus on! as it is tied to a lot of game content and is a good way for you to learn more about different aspects of the game
