2. Do players bother optimizing farms and such or just do whatever they want? Is it bad to not optimize?
3. How long do players generally play a farm save, or do they keep restarting after the 3 years?

The answer to the first 3 is pretty much just "Do what you want"

I personally use mods like UI Info Suite, and NPC map locations on every playthrough at this point.

Some people optimise. Some people do theme farms. Some people never know what they're doing.

It takes me about 80 hours to complete a farm (usually ending right after y2 finishes), I'm very experienced though.

2,100 hours.

Well, Stardew is cheaper. It's a bit more streamlined in its goals as well, and less sandboxy if you prefer direction.

Minecraft is a lot more open, and if you're going to be playing with friends, I think offers a better Multiplayer experience. But it's more expensive.

Spending free time early game fishing can be good, as fish restore energy (Chubs and Smallmouth bass are the most efficient fish to eat), or selling them to buy food (Salads from the Saloon)

If you find any Carrot Seeds from the grassy-like artifact spots, those are also extremely good energy once grown.

Rabbits are also a good choice because wool + rabbits foot.

For barns, mostly just cows and pigs.
Pigs are the best money makers you'll have, while cows can be a nice source of cheese.
cheese being a solid food source throughout the entire game, or sell for some change.

Of course, this doesn't include different oddities, like CC completion and having variety
