Buy the beginner/starter rod from Willy. it costs like 25g.
The benefit of this is that the rod gives you a bar equivalent to if you're level 5(?).
TL;DR starter rod gives bigger bar at the cost of only being able to catch limited fish and basic quaility at that.

It's useful for being able to level easier because it'd be more consistent to reach perfect catches.
