Buy expanded backpack space if you haven't already!
Better fishing rod if it's available, buying recipes from gus and Lewis, stocking up on kitchen items and decorations from Lewis, saving up for seeds if it's late season/buying more seeds if it's early season

But still shut it if you remember because it increases their happiness. They are also happier if they eat grass instead of hay which is why its good to let them outside

It's a strategy some people just aren't aware of yet. You can prep your crop fields for Spring in Winter by hoeing everything, planting fiber seeds, and adding any fertilizer or speed-gro you want on your Spring crops.
On Spring 1 you just scythe away the fiber and your field is ready for planting. No rushing to get in all your hoeing, watering, planting and fertilizing all in one day. You just plant seeds.

Yeah, that can be frustrating, especially if you run out of time.
Another factor to consider is to check the crop calendar on its Wiki page. If there are days left over at the end of the month after its final harvest, you can plant that many days late and still get the same number of harvests.
In other words, if the last harvest is on the 26th, you can plant on day 2 and the last harvest will be on the 27th. Plant on day 3 and it's on the 28th.
You don't always have to plant everything on day 1.
