They're not, like, operating on alien fae logic. They understand property rights and stuff, they know they're squatting, and they even understand the value of money.
If you can bring them the offerings they ask for, arranged in various bundles testing your skill in various aspects of the game, they'll undo some of the natural entropy on the CC and around the valley (e.g. restoring the bus so you can go to the desert, un-rusting the minecarts so you can fast-travel between its waypoints, fixing your greenhouse...)

And yeah Joja membership leads to the C.C. being bulldozed and instead you can get that stuff fixed by just paying lots of money.
Veteran players find this easier but Morris just has such a punchable face

No. Do not clear-cut your farm. Only clear out what areas you need for your crops and buildings, allowing the rest to go wild. That wild area will have a lot of grass you can scyeth for hay, leaving tufts here and there that can spread and fill in, allowing for multiple hay harvests per year. Likewise, with trees you can chop them down for a steady supply of wood, allowing the seeds that fall from them to spread and grow more trees, or picking up those seeds with a tool and planting them in a more convenient location or arrangement.
A clear-cut farm might look nice, but it gives you absolutely nothing. You'll have it all cleared out eventually, just don't make the mistake of doing it too early and robbing yourself of valuable and renewable resources.

If you haven't found enough for your silo while hoeing your farm to plant crops, or from hoeing up artifact spots, you can hoe the beach. The sand resets every day, so if you don't get enough (you most likely will) you can try again the next day without having to pickaxe the ground to reset it.

Of the 15 gemstones only good for the museum, only 2 are worth less than the 25 it costs you to break them open. Average price of the 15 non-craftable gemstones is 90 gold. The lone artifact is worth 100. Earth crystals are needed for mayo machines. The rest are ores and clay, resources you can always use.

It requires flounder, midnight carp and squid ink. Lobster Bisque, +3 Fishing, only requires a lobster and milk, but you get the recipe very late in year 2. You get Dish O' The Sea, also +3, much earlier, and it only requires potatoes, oil and sardines (2).
