Me personally I do the barn to deluxe kind of first. The house upgrades past the kitchen gets super spendy and with barn upgraded you can get pigs and goats and all them higher up money makers

But if you got enough for it go for the house

The trick is: don't!
On the transition from spring to summer, if I can afford it, I plant sacrificial parsnips on the last day. These die off on the morning of Summer 1, but they hold the soil tilled across the transition and the sprinklers can water it! Then you just gotta scythe the dead plants away and refertilize.
Across Summer to Fall, I plan around growing a batch of Wheat at the very end. Wheat even survives the transition so the fertilizer is even preserved. You still gotta scythe it away, but to harvest it rather than to dispose of it

Duck feathers sell for less than actual duck mayonnaise does, so... When they produce one, you lost money
