How does fishing early help??

During the early game you don't have a lot of energy to do other things, and you can self sustain energy by fishing and eating the lower value fish and selling the higher value fish. It's also something to do while you wait for your crops to grow since you can't afford very many, and things don't become accessible to you right away (e.g. mines on spring 5)

You have to travel a long path through the locker rooms before you even get into the water, you cannot run while in your swimwear, you need to sit in the water while your energy slowly recovers, and then you have to go back the way you came (walking-not-running to the changing room, then back through the locker room)

Bats will mostly produce forage fruit; they will only rarely produce a tree fruit (which the Community Center wants).
The two tree fruits that are most important to the Community Center, are one Pomegranate (not so bad to get from the bats) and three Apples (absolutely terrible to get from the bats; it's their rarest item and on average it takes multiple years for them to get you three)

So you can use fruitbats to get some stuff for the C.C., but... you will still probably end up wanting an Apple Sapling anyway, so oof

I'm not crazy about daggers, and wouldn't recommend them to players who aren't confident in combat (such as yourself, apparently)
Swords are easy to use, though

That Glaive can last until around Floor 90
