Fiberglass Pole, buyable from Willy at Fishing Lv2, can equip bait. This will about halve the time it takes for a bite.
The fishing minigame actually freezes time until you either pull the fish out or it escapes, so most of the time that passes during fishing is... Waiting for bites. So bait will nearly double the fish you can get in a day
