Bait will about halve the time it takes to hook something, meaning it about halves the time per fish.

If you happen to be on the beach farm, the difficulty of saltwater vs freshwater crabbing is inverted... There is a freshwater crabbing spot on the beach farm but it uniquely has an increased trash rate. You might try Cindersap Forest instead, though maybe it feels weird to do that...
