fishing is a great way to make a buck when you're waiting on crops
I recommend you not spending TOO MUCH on anything (like tool upgrades, max backpack upgrades, traveling cart stuff) before the 13th of spring because there'll be the Egg Festival, there pierre sells you the best spring crop y1
Potatoes are almost just as good as strawberries y1, so i recommend getting your money up via those and fishing
Go to town on the 5th of spring after 8am and before 2am(iirc) on a no rain day to really start the game
The mines is also unlocked on the 5th, there's a ton of stuff for you to explore there
For fishing, i recommend getting the fiberglass rod asap, (level 2 fishing reward bought at willy's) since it makes a huge difference (between the bamboo pole and the fiberglass rod, since it gives you access to bait)
if you're interested in raising animals, most ppl will advice you to get a silo asap but imo, you can put it off for as long as near end of fall.
(since it's only really useful in rainy days and in the winter)
try to get lightning rods (level 6 foraging) before summer 13th (or better yet, summer) and avoid placing really valuable crops that you have just 1 of if you don't have at least 1 rod on your farm.
if you happen to come across or a dino egg, it's recommended that you hold onto them instead of donating them the the museum

First time player, having a very hard time understanding the fishing controls for the Switch (for example, took me ages to figure out how to actually get into the mini-game because I was only pressing Y once rather than twice when the exclamation point came up, most guides don't mention this). The way that ||Moss spawns, is that the older a tree is, the more likely it is to spawn||

As such, you're unlikely to see it in spring until rather late into the month. It becomes more common in Summer+ and especially during/after the ||Green Rain event|| that happens in summer.

I usually leave trees grown off the farm for the purpose of allowing it to spawn. If you make a tapper farm for yourself, this also works well, as you obviously aren't going to be chopping down trees you're tapping.

I think with gemologists you get a chance of snagging 2 gems instead of one! Iirc, the excavator does the same, but with ore.

Lemme explain... so year 1 you don't have alot of stone. So you need the extra. So you take excavator and grt the extra stone because well you don't have much. Y2 though you need more gems your past the point of unlocks naturally giving you an ungodly amount of stone, coal but you now need gems for several reasons.
