you can plant the seeds that drop, mahogany trees that drop hardwood sprout from them, but it takes a long time
there are other ways later on, but secret woods is the most reliable early on

What tree seed? Fruit trees take 28 days to grow, if you can plant it, it will grow as long as nothing is around it.

Common trees can grow almost anywhere, their growth is random though unless you use tree fertilizer
