If you have a bad time from the bugs, farm the early placid ones until you get a notification that you fulfilled the adventurers guild quest for them

that will net you a very good sword

You aren't alone on that. I invest 4 in-game years before I realized I had a completely wrong farm layout for what I wanted to do. I missed the special event at the end of year two as well. And I didn't like who I married. But it was a good learning experience so I started over.
