If you’re really struggling and you want the most authentic experience, I’d probably suggest restarting and going the community center route. It serves as a jumping-off point in learning a lot of things about the game that you don’t necessarily get with Joja. That said, you can play however you want, and I’m sure you’ll begin learning more as you do quests, read mail, etc.
