As @mystic burrow said, the mushroom cave is better for profits, assuming you check regularly, which is good for gathering the joja money. Fruit is recommended for the cc route so that it's easier to complete some bundles without needing to invest in the trees. Personally, I choose fruit only because it can spawn in more places (the mushroom has 6 spots, the fruit drops anywhere on the cave floor), which means I can forget about it for days on end without losing out on much. It does spawn very slowly through
