So I'm at the end of year 1 for my current low-stress run now. I've focused on foraging and chopping wood, fishing and going to the mines. I've done almost no farming until Winter when I built a coop and barn for animals, ignored most quests. and haven't bothered making friends.

Despite playing in a pretty slow and low key way, I still got a fair bit done. I've got to the bottom of the mines, maxed out my fishing and foraging skill levels, upgraded all tools to gold. I caught a legendary fish without meaning to. I've got chickens, ducks, cows, goats. I have found the majority of the museum artefacts and minerals (but not an Ancient Seed yet!) So I've got the ||Rusty Key|| as well.

I'm now in Spring of year 2, have decided to finally start on CC completion. I stored a fair bit of what I collected in Year 1 but didn't want to sweat it by retaining everything possible. So I've been able to complete quite a few bundles and got Minecarts immediately, but am now filling in gaps where e.g. I ate or sold some items needed (I needed energy and didn't want to sweat it on remembering what to keep). Plus as I'm farming crops pretty much for the first time now, I'm only just now working towards Greenhouse.

It has been so nice to do this run without rushing, I recommend it so much for anyone wanting to play in a relaxed way - key tip being avoid farming crops until later on. I should easily complete CC in Autumn of Y2 which isn't much slower than I would otherwise do it, and I could have been on course to finish much sooner if I'd not eaten certain fish & foraging items

I think the appeal is that you have a space (farm), finances, and plants to take care of, and you can go about it in many ways, so it’s like a blank cavas. Realistically some people like fishing more and so less farming. Some focus on getting to know the NPCs, and some love mining more.

It depends on what the pond asks you for. The lava eel pond does have the option to ask you for basalt, but it’s not 100% that it will. Just a little tip in case it does.
