Preserves jars are great for basically anything. In many cases they net you higher g/day than kegs would for the same product

Personally I like to play SDV as close to real-life as possible, so I only put stuff in a preserves jar that I could see being made into preserves IRL

For each possible item, you can look up their respective g/day and decide for yourself whether it is worth turning into preserves or selling outright

As a general rule, when you have regular quality items that have a high base selling price, you should always at least consider processing them in one of the two machines. The machines multiply the base value of the item placed into them (i.e. they ignore quality), and they take the same amount of time no matter what you put into them (except Sturgeon roe for some reason).

I should be more specific: mining is most valuable on days when you both have good luck and it is raining. Those do not occur very often at all, so when they do it really, really helps to have a profession that maximizes your return on mine runs

Additionally, gems basically do not have any other use other than as gifts (with only a couple of exceptions). Miner does lose a bit of its value in the mid-game, since you can purchase the basic ores from Clint instead of mining them. However, all of the late-game ores cannot be purchased in any way, so you have to spend actual mining time for those. In those instances the miner profession comes in clutch.
