mushrooms are technically more profitable but only if you harvest them every day, and the items you get aren't super useful. Fruit bats don't make much money but don't need to be harvest often at all, and are good for gifting and CC. You can also more easily decorate the fruit bat cave lategame.
The decision doesn't matter much in the long run
