Either is a fine choice. Mushrooms help with early-game energy and a little money while bats help with community center completion and liked gifts. Both become obsolete by midgame, so I recommend picking whichever you’d like. That said, if you pick bats, I recommend still planting an apple and pomegranate tree as those fruits tend to be less common drops from the cave, and you need 2 poms and 3 apples for CC.
