you can only affect speed with speed fertilizers (eg. deluxe speed gro) and that's only good for starfruit on specifically the first day of the season, otherwise it's totally wasted

it's OK to just plant blueberries or starfruit on normal soil

basically, don't worry too much about your profits

as long as you're planting stuff and throwing your high-sale-value crops into kegs, you'll be fine

Petting them increases their friendship, so how many hearts they have when you click on hem after petting

It not entirely necessary to pet them because their friendship increases if they eat outside, but its faster by nearly 200% i think if you do both

Finally, the friendship level determines the quality of goods that animals drop besides pigs. Pigs will gain a chance to dig up another truffle i believe and sheep will produce wool faster i believe
