That's what grass is for. Scythe away large portions of it to fill your silo(s), but leave tufts here and there so they will regrow and spread, giving you more grass to scythe for more hay later.
A lot of people (myself included) make the mistake of clearing their entire farm of grass and trees before they are even using those areas.
Only clear what you need to clear for buildings, animals, and crops. Leave the rest to grow wild with grass and trees for a steady supply of hay and wood.
Empty space gives you nothing.

Sure. It's especially good to plant a bit here and there on the last day of Winter. The next day, Spring 1, you will get an explosion of grass growth, something like 40x what you planted. It's amazing for building up your hay reserves.

you get friendship with villagers by giving gifts and talking to them. talking barely gives any so the main method is gifting. there are 5 categories of gifts. hated, disliked, neutral, liked and loved. giving hated and disliked gifts lowers your friendship with that villager. giving a gift on their birthday gives 8x more friendship
