Then make a organized and focused effort to sort things out neatly when Winter comes

The standard farm is well rounded in terms of farming. You have lots of tiles to grow crops or place barns. Forest farm revolves around more animal based, i would say, but you still get a fair amount of land for crops. Forest farm gives a few benefits like foraging items and daily hardwood stumps.
