However you want to do it

fossil dirge

oaky

#

OKAY

late nebula
#

Probably. I haven't used it so not sure how useful it is.

#

(ModDrop's manager was pretty disappointing for me, ngl.)

fossil dirge
#

wait um

#

do i move them or copy.

late nebula
#

Copy

#

We just want them to be somewhere else in case loading your game in vanilla has undesireable effects.

fossil dirge
#

is it ok if the steamcloud thing is still in the save file

#

that thing

late nebula
#

Should be fine if you want to use steam cloud.

fossil dirge
#

okay

#

hold on i need to go to the bathroom

late nebula

K

fossil dirge
#

okay so i open the vanilla stardew and then waht

late nebula

Load into your save. Play a day if you want. But mostly importantly, you need to sleep so it will save.

fossil dirge
#

okay

#

I don’t think it’s opening

late nebula
#

Did it show up in the Load screen

fossil dirge
#

no the application itself isn’t opening LOL

late nebula

Vanilla stardew?

fossil dirge
#

yes

#

my whole computer is lagging

late nebula
#

Maybe restart

fossil dirge

it might be opening

Then try again. Might need to try uninstall and reinstall.

if that makes sense

is that why they arent working

late nebula
#

If you don't have previous saves, then we probably can't help you.

fossil dirge
#

oh alright

late nebula
#

If a save gets corrupted, that's usually the end of it unless some expert knows a better way to fix it.

fossil dirge
#

i think smapi has backup saves though of them

#

they dont have the old ones either

gloomy kayak
#

WTF? due to steam, the title screen could not load -.-'

native dragonBOT
#

@gloomy kayak If your resolution is messed up try deleting startup_preferences This can be found on Windows at %appdata% > Stardew Valley > it's in that folder, or C:\Users\Yourwindowsnamehere\AppData\Roaming\StardewValley or for Mac can be found at ~/.config/StardewValley To get here you'll want to go to your desktop, then in the menu bar select Go -> Go to Folder...

gaunt gust
#

well, at least it's a different error

... after reseting content ... it works ... as long, as i dont open steam

@past dome Can you upload your SMAPI log to https://smapi.io/log (see instructions on that page) and share the link here?

quiet night
#

If I delete a mod that adds new machine & recipes, and somehow I already received the recipes on how to do it in the mail, does it get removed or will it stay?

#

Because I’m playing with stardew progress and it keeps saying certain items are not found (because I already deleted them) but when I played in a new save, I didn’t get that

late nebula
#

I think those items are stored in your save file when you start the game. The top comment on the posts page of Stardew Progress talks about this very issue.

#

I'm not sure if there's any way to fix it though. nyaThink

quiet night
#

Oh yikes

#

I should get perfection tracker and set the amounts of recipes I have in game

late nebula
#

You might be able to comment there and see if the author is willing to help you figure that out.

quiet night
#

Same goes with the crafting

late nebula
#

(This is part of the reason I am so hesitant to use anything that adds any recipes or items to the game SDVpuffersquee )

quiet night
#

I have two saves right now so I keep playing between those 2

late nebula
#

Are you using mod groups or just using the same mods on both?

quiet night
#

The first save was when I added the mods but I removed it right after

misty thicket
#

okay, figured my problem mod out

#

it's OrSpeeder's Better Sprinklers mod

#

the overlay it provides is not scaling to my zoom level

raven plinth
#

Does anyone know if there is a mod which makes kegs make other types of alcholic drinks. Vodka for potatoes, Cider for apples, Sake for rice etc?

astral plover
#

doesnt starbew valley and/or champagne wishes add more keg usage? they do add more alcoholic drinks

late nebula
#

Starbrew is all cocktails

#

Champagne Wishes isn't quite what I think is wanted either nyaThink

#

No idea if that still works.

misty thicket
#

question

#

OrSpeeder's sprinkler mod has values in the config for RGB and A

#

RGB is obviously color

#

and I assume A is for"Alpha" meaning transparency

#

would higher or lower be the right way to increase transparency?

#

or is that on a per-modder basis?

astral plover
#

is there a reason why you cant just try it out?

#

with gmcm you can probably change it ingame and have it reloaded without reloading your game

gaunt gust
late nebula
#

Same

#

But try it and see

late nebula
astral plover
late nebula
#

I was just giving you a possible answer for your question.

astral plover
#

what question did i ask

astral plover
#

why they cant try it out?

#

just let them answer

mild moss
#

Hello my stardew valley does not appear to have a mod folder

misty thicket
#

so altering the variables seems to have done nothing

#

and there is in fact no GMCM support

#

I think the mod predates GMCM

mild moss
#

My stardew valley on windows appears not to have a mod folder, what do I do?

mild moss
#

I have

astral plover
#

apparently not

mild moss
#

thats odd

#

do I extract smapi somewhere?

gaunt gust
#

...yes And run the installer

astral plover
#

did you just put the downloaded folder/content somewhere or did you start it and install it?

#

go to the link i just posted and check if thats what you've done

mild moss
#

okay

#

thanks

#

attempting to extract smapi into stardew

astral plover
#

you can extract it wherever you want. extracting is not the same as installing

mild moss
#

installed

#

thank you for the help

misty thicket
#

okay nothing I am doing is removing the overlay that OrSpeeder's mod provides

#

it's not game-breaking but it is super annoying

astral plover
#

@uncut yacht if there's no red text in your smapi window and you dropped SVE into your mods folder, then it should work, yes.

#

otherwise just boot up a save and check the relations tab. if there's a girl with pink hair that you havent met yet somewhere, then its working.

late nebula
astral plover
uncut yacht
misty thicket
mild moss
#

when the mod files are in the folder for mods, do I have to extract it or is that alright now

misty thicket
#

each mod should be in its own folder

late nebula
#

You do need to extract them.

#

They also need their own folder like bigboct said.

copper parcel
#

@gaunt gustwhy all pronouns accepted?

copper parcel
#

are you transgender?

late nebula
#

Sometimes mods extract without a folder so watch out for that.

gaunt gust
#

I'm not going to answer that question from strangers on the internet

#

Take the pronouns statement at face value: all pronouns are accepted. I reserve the right to object to obvious bad faith

mild moss
#

I see, can I extract the mod and then put it into the mod folder in stardew?

mild moss
#

alright!

#

#

same color overlay, same opacity

#

okay, looking at the pictures helped for Flexible Sprinklers

#

so they will try to water any tilled soil up to the number of tiles indicated by the sprinkler type?

scarlet spoke
#

For Custom Producer Mod, how will the Worm Bin choose which of these to produce?

astral plover
# misty thicket so how does the "cluster" watering mode work?

cluster mode, from what i understand, first checks which sprinklers are connected to the same field (hoed spots that are connected to each other) and then distributes the work to water the field between them. the mod also offers other modes, including vanilla via its config (if you just want other components of it)

#

tho the overlay it provides works really well and lets you see how good your coverage is whenever you click on a placed sprinkler

misty thicket
#

that helps a lot, thank you

#

@astral plover

#

so here's another question

#

see the HP/Stamina numbers?

#

when I press the button to set where they appear, the cursor is where they SHOULD be

#

no idea why this is occurring

#

hello! ive been struggling with modding

#

i downloaded the "better artisan goods icon" mod, but the sprites in my game didnt change at all

#

ive alr installed SMAPI, and there were no other requirements, so im not sure why it isnt working

lament prairie
#

You need content packs for it

west bane
#

is that another mod? @lament prairie

pretty sure it should work right away, at least for vanilla items

lament prairie
#

I have three content packs for BAGI (you may not want all of them)

#

But checking their manifests/content, it does look like the main mod covers most vanilla items

dusty spruce
#

huh

gaunt gust
#

The Fix iirc is the 1.5 stuff

dusty spruce
#

this is how it looks for me

gaunt gust
lament prairie
#

Oh I also have main BAGI too

#

It's just in my Framework subfolder

gaunt gust
#

Yeah, BAGI does the vanilla objects that existed in its day, Fix adds the 1.5 stuff

dusty spruce
#

are there different versions of BAGI or what

gaunt gust
#

BAGI accepts content packs for mod-provided items

lament prairie
#

oops I might have installed two things for 1.5 content 😂

gaunt gust
#

someone also did a content pack for the 1.5 stuff

dusty spruce
#

ah

lament prairie
#

BAGI in different subfolder, different from the content packs bc it's a framework

#

techhhhnically some of these aren't frameworks but it's tidier this way

west bane
#

OMG IT WORKS

#

thanks for the help guys

dusty spruce
#

no worries

west bane
#

oh what's the best recolor mod out there? will it work on a current save ?

gaunt gust
#

Depends a lot on what you want out of a recolor

lament prairie
#

there's no "best one", it's up to taste

#

They will work on current saves

#

Some of them are slightly out of date (may not cover 1.5 areas)

#

For discussing favorite recolors, #modded-stardew may get you better results, but if anything goes wrong, come on back here.

west bane
#

thanks @lament prairie

lost storm
#

Has anyone tried out the new Hidden River Farm map? I can't get it to work. I have content patcher and I have DaisyNiko's Tilesheets, which are the two required dependents but it won't show up when I create a riverlands map.

native dragonBOT
#

@lost storm Can you do these steps to provide more info?

  1. Load your save and view the content that should be patched.
  2. Type patch summary directly into the SMAPI window and press enter.
  3. Upload your SMAPI log to https://smapi.io/log (see instructions on that page).
  4. Post the log link here.
lament prairie
#

A perusal of the content files shows that it should show up for Riverlands

lost storm
#

Do that while the game is running?

#

Ok where do I find the log file?

#

It's probably on the page huh

lament prairie
#

Yup, instructions on the website

lost storm
#

Should I log out of the game before I upload the log?\

lament prairie
#

Nope, you can upload while it's running

lost storm
#

Oh there are errors I didn't see before

#

Oh a big error for that map

lament prairie
#

Yeah....I feel like XML document error is especially weird here

lost storm
#

I'll post it on the mod page

lament prairie
#

Is this a new save?

lost storm
#

Yes

#

Only a week into the game

lament prairie
#

You may also want to post this on the Content Patcher page, to be honest, it may be a mod conflict because this is a weird problem? Edit: don't do this, I was wrong

#

Have you used Map Edit on the farm yet?

#

FeTK is old and will break vanilla mail

#

Use Mail Services Mod

lost storm
#

No I have not

lament prairie
#

You don't seem to be using Entoarox Framework for anything, so you can remove it most likely

gaunt gust
#

I see the problem

lost storm
#

Ok got rid of the map edit too

gaunt gust
#

That map has an absolute path in a tilesheet

#

Report to Nexus page, it's an easy fix

lament prairie
#

Oh, is that what that looks like? I had always seen the climbing directories thing before

lost storm
#

Just added that to the comment on nexus

#

Ok replacing fetk with mail services

#

So I guess it's pretty much a waiting game till the mod author sees it and can fix it

gaunt gust
#

If you want, open the map in vscode or notepad++

#

And remove all the C://.....etc

lost storm
#

I don't have either of those

#

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\My Made Items\Erins Beach Farm Exp\Assets\zspring_daisyextras.tsx

#

im currently trying to build libgdiplus and seeing if having that helps, SDV starts without smapi though

gaunt gust
#

If that doesn't work revert to smapi 3.13.0

#

And install dotnet 5 separately

lone dragon
#

the installer for 3.13.0 doesnt seem to detect dotnet 5?

#

My game likes to stop responding when I have mods

#

It will eventually load

#

But it takes awhile

gaunt gust
lone dragon
#

only shows 6.0.2

#

despite installing 5.0

gaunt gust
#

Hum. That explains why smapi's installer can't find it

#

Which flavor of.Linux?

lone dragon
#

Manjaro (latest stable)

gaunt gust
#

Does dpkg -L find...

#

Shoot not one I know.then :P

lone dragon
#

its arch based

gaunt gust
#

Maybe check to see if dotnet installed in a place listed in $path? (Should be how it searches)

#

Okay dpkg is also on arch, that's helpful to know

lone dragon
#

it does exist, but its for debian packages

#

of which i have none

#

debian and arch packages dont really play well

gaunt gust
#

Ah, okay

lone dragon
#

not even sure where this error originates, i think its just dotnet in general?

gaunt gust
#

Yeah....

#

The github issue I found says it should be fixed

#

But....I dunno

lone dragon
#

downgrading the dotnet runtime doesnt help

#

so im guessing is some sort of interaction between smapi and dotnet causing it to break?

gaunt gust
#

I was hoping that it was a dotnet/OS interaction

shy orbit
#

i don't think you need to have dotnet installed for smapi to work. at least i don't have it

gaunt gust
#

The game bundles.the dotnet it uses, and smapi uses that

#

Yeah. Usually

lone dragon
#

ill reinstall and see if that helps

gaunt gust
#

But when you get an obscure dotnet error trying to see if a version built.for your os....

lone dragon
#

see if its an issue with it being from a windows install to linux install

gaunt gust
#

Hum

lone dragon
#

nothing

shy orbit
#

have you tried to run it with the steam linux runtime? i don't know if it would do anything, but maybe

#

proton could work too (unless you're opposed to using the windows version)

lone dragon
#

ive been running it natively, i havent tried proton

#

im not sure how to change runtime versions for certain games in steam

#

oh there doesnt seem to be an exe to run

#

that complicates it..

shy orbit
#

the steam runtime option is in the compatibility options, same place as proton

lone dragon
#

same thing, just attempts to run and after a while it stops (with the steam runtime)

#

running through steam doesnt work, running it directly from the modding api exe just has an error and mentions dotnet core 5.0.7 not existing

shy orbit
#

is that with proton?

#

maybe tinkering with the wine library settings for dotnet could help, if it's possible. i think it's done with protontricks with proton. not sure. could also try installing specific dotnet to the "proton" prefix that steam uses for the game i guess

lone dragon
#

yea that was with proton, but im just gonna give up, its not long till rune factory 5 comes out and if i start stardew again itll just get forgotten when i get rf5

it's the artifact of SpaceCore and PyTK interacting with each other

#

Many favorite NPCs also use it

#

And I don't know what to do because at random intervals I get CRAZY lag and stutter for 2-3 seconds

#

And it's SO ANNOYING

#

At first I thought it was LoC and while it has issues, the lag remained even without it

#

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

lament prairie
#

Lag/stutter is unfortunately very hard to diagnose

gaunt gust
lament prairie
#

There are a few potential causes:

  1. Background processes on your computer (ex. my game lags/stutters horribly when my computer changes from light to dark theme at nightfall)
  2. Garbage collection in the game—Ameise has been trying to track this down but it has been proving elusive.
  3. Certain functions within the game can cause lag/stutter (ex. when I had a mod that spawned FTM forage at specific times, I would get a lag/stutter at those times, and when my daily screenshot mod triggers there's a big stutter)
  4. Certain mods are more likely to cause lag/stutter, and may have settings to reduce them. (For example, reducing FTM's monster spawn limit can reduce lag, and there are lightweight versions of DSV to limit the lag from switching many images on location change, especially in winter.)
#

You can try eliminating/diagnosing the first one by running Task Manager/Activity Monitor in the background and trying to correlate lag spikes to spikes in activity from other processes. This may be difficult to do in realtime.

#

The second one you probably can't do anything about unless you want to start diving into .NET 5 stuff itself I thiiink

#

The third one you can try timing the lag/stutter, and if specific times are problematic you can try to find corresponding mods

dusty spruce
#

i used to have some lag with Automate when i went crazy with the number of machines in a group

#

had to switch it to fire every 20 seconds

#

otherwise it was unbearable, every second

lament prairie
#

Oh also I forgot:
4. If you have SVE installed, you can crank the monster spawn limit in FTM down and see if that helps with lag.

#

There are also certain computer setups that may be more problematic for lag: I think Nvidia graphics cards may need certain settings applied? And you may be able to change the amount of lag by setting SDV to run on a specific core on your computer? (Neither of these are things I understand very well though unfortunately)

astral plover
dusty spruce
#

yeah, i find it weird it uses seconds instead of in-game 10 minute intervals

astral plover
#

( i couldnt even think of a machine that needs to update more than once per 10 ingame minutes )

lament prairie
#

If you want to see the Nvidia graphics card settings thing, try .q 5755 in #governors-mansion

dusty spruce
#

they literally update once every 10-minute in-game interval

#

i guess at this point it's just backwards compatibility

#

otherwise Pathos would probably make it tied to the ticks

astral plover
#

that might be something to suggest for automate on the nexus page as a "performance mode" checkbox, so it only fires once right before or after the update happens

native grail
# gaunt gust what's your computer's specs?

It's pretty old, admittedly, but this lag/stutter issue is new.
My graphics card is AMD Radeon R7 200 Series, my processor is AMD 6300 6-core, 3.5 Ghz, 8 GB of RAM, and the game is installed in an SSD

gaunt gust
astral plover
#

or have the groups spaced out troughout the ticks within the 10 minutes.

dusty spruce
#

in my Machine Status mod i register myself to the readyForHarvest, minutesUntilReady and heldObject property changed events of each machine, and only do anything if they actually changed
anyway, this is off-topic, so i'll stop

lament prairie
#

Unfortunately the switch to .NET 5.0 may be tied to more lag/stuttering issues on certain setups (anecdotally), there was a forums thread about this issue (not sure if it ever came to any conclusions though).

native grail
#

Well, I've had it for 7 years so I do consider it old xD

gaunt gust
#

for some reason it looks like Radeon machines are more likely to suffer lag, yeah

native grail
#

Sigh

#

The thing is, I cannot pinpoint a reason. I check the time when it happens, then i check the log to see if there's anything that happened in that minute but...nothing

#

According to the SMAPI log, at least

lament prairie
#

Not everything that causes lag will log itself

#

And if it does log, it may log at trace level

native grail
#

It makes it harder to diagnose eh

I recommend reverting to the JA versions

elfin patrol

I'll have to do that I suppose. We switched to the DGA versions to hopefully avoid my friend having JSON shuffling issues

lament prairie
#

Ah, unfortunately the PPJA mods were converted by a script due to them being massive

elfin patrol
#

Ah... makes sense why there's so many issues.

#

Do you happen to know if JSON shuffling can be caused by a computer with low RAM availability?

lament prairie
#

That shouldn't be the cause

#

You're more likely to get OOM crashes

#

(Out of Memory)

#

Which can trigger on any mod, it depends on when you run out of memory

elfin patrol

Hmm, yeah, not getting those. It just seems like after a while her stuff all gets weird. But it seems like restarting the game fixes it.

[#5859] "A Json Shuffle is when your Json Assets items rearrange their numerical IDs or different players have different numerical IDs assigned to the same object. See here for details: https://stardewmodding.wiki/wiki/Json_Shuffle

Anytime you change your JA mods you can risk a shuffle. In multiplayer, you need to have exactly the same mods in exactly the same order as your friends.

Anytime you have a shuffle and then solve it, old objects may remain affected but new ones should be fine. You can sell or trash the old items, and spawn in new ones if needed with CJB item spawner." - @lament prairie (06 Feb 2022 @ 09:47:44 PM UTC)

dusty spruce
#

then maybe you're using some mods which add items in a weird way

SM can stutter a bit if a lot of new textures are loaded or invalidated

#

Since it has to momentarily block the main thread to handle certain things.

#

And some mods are... really bad about invalidations.

native grail

Hmm, I have zero issues with just SMAPI, I checked it after someone suggested I do it. This is peculiar

lavish marlin
#

If I patch the SMAPI invalidating code directly I can improve that.

#

There is a complex issue ATM in the texture cache. I can either hold weak references there in which case they get flushed on GC, or strong references in which case the instances don't get suspended and reused.

VPR changes a lot, I would try to turn off all the inside and furniture stuff, and maybe the seasonal overlays

Thank you to those who helped me last night with the Hidden River farm map. The mod author responded to the post, fixed the issue and I downloaded the update. I'm happy to say it works. However, it caused glitches like this. I think I'll have to start over. LOL Well ok I was going to share some screenshots but I forgot where they are.

remote marsh
#

It's not a gamebreaker or anything, just annoying. If other recolors do it too then I'll just live with it

dire fractal
#

VPR just makes the furniture and the town interior look a bit more toned down

#

It's not really a big visual change

lost storm
#

I'll do it this way. I now have floating crap pots in grass.

#

And furnaces in water.

dire fractal
#

Get NoClip to access them

#

Though they might drop in the water

lost storm
#

I'll just start over. It's only day 15 so it's not a huge deal. I'm just happy the map is working now.

dire fractal
#

Ah, okay. That's not a big loss

lost storm
#

I just had to share these cause they cracked me up. lol

mild moss
#

my cjb cheats menu is not working

#

I have moved it into the mods folder already

lost storm
#

What's the keypress to open it set as?

mild moss
#

and extracted it

#

I think it is p, how do I check?

lost storm
#

It has a config file, check to see

mild moss
#

I see, do I find that inside the mod folder?

lost storm
#

Yes

mild moss
#

alr thank you!

lost storm
#

Open up the cjbcheatmenu folder, then double click on config.json. It should open it in notepad

mild moss
#

ah alright

lost storm
#

I have it changed to open with C and to freeze time with T but I had to first go into the game options to change the keys those were already set to. Like the game defaults T to chat. I changed that to space. And C was defaulted to something as well but I changed that to something else so I can use those keys for the mod.

#

Do I don't play multiplayer, I didn't need the chat feature.

@fast river I'm having an issue with a DGA mod. I've contacted the author of the mod, but it could be an issue with DGA itself.
Essentially, this pack adds some shoes with DGA, and when I uninstall the mod (or run the game without it) the load game screen crashes with an OOB error trying to draw a save slot wearing those shoes. (even with DGA installed) https://smapi.io/log/a49a646363124392adc36733986866b2

And I play with a controller so I don't need most of the button presses either.

#

If you use Generic Mod Config Menu, you can see the settings in game.

mild moss
#

oh

#

I will consider installing that

late nebula
#

Definitely very useful!

proven pewter
#

I haven't been able to verify that it is a problem with DGA because I haven't seen any other mods adding boots with DGA, and of course there's no way to run the other mod without DGA installed

late nebula
#

Not all mods use it, but most do.

Can you upload your SMAPI log to https://smapi.io/log (see instructions on that page) and share the link here?

mild moss
#

it says windows cannot find it

late nebula
#

Do you have a mod in your mod folder called Error Handler (or something like that)?

mild moss
#

I do

late nebula
#

Okay. When you launch the game, is the smapi console window coming up? The black box?

mild moss
#

it is not

late nebula
#

Okay that means you aren't launching with mods which is why nothing is working.

#

Are you on gog, steam, or xbox app?

mild moss
#

I am on steam

late nebula
#

Can you check your launch option? Right click the game, properties (i think?)

#

Then there is a box near the bottom called launch option

mild moss
#

alright

late nebula
#

(In steam I mean)

windows

late nebula

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\StardewModdingAPI.exe" %command%

This should be in the launch option field. Or something close to it. Might be different if you put your game files somewhere other than the default place.

mild moss
#

also there is no launch option in properties

late nebula
#

As in nothing is in the box or the box doesn't exist?

mild moss
#

the box is not there

late nebula

Well.. I have no idea how to help you then...

ashen garnet
#

Huh. Got a weird issue with SVE

late nebula
#

What sort of issue?

ashen garnet
#

SMAPI says it can't load ShopTileFramework because there are multiple copies, and it can't load SVE because it needs ShopTileFramework

late nebula
#

Did you delete SVE before you updated it?

#

I think it used to come with some of those dependencies.

ashen garnet
#

That may be it. I cleaned the folder a bit but I'm not sure what I just replaced. I'll delete and reinstall SVE

late nebula
#

But ultimately, you need to delete one of the copies of STF and your log should tell you exactly where they are.

lament prairie
#

that error is a little unintuitive but it does really sound like the "didn't fully delete" error

#

the reason it happens is that there's two submods sharing the same uniqueID across the before/after versions, but they don't have the same folder name

#

so drag and drop does terrible things

late nebula
#

Who would ever drag and drop a mod into the mod folder and let it overwrite? SDVpufferchicksweatsip

ashen garnet
#

Looks like it loaded better this time!

#

now I need to do a couple other small fixes, like NPC map locations...

#

Which-- huh. Has separate files for SVE and Immersive Farm

#

...do I need both?

late nebula
#

That.. I don't know.

#

I imagine the Immersive Farm one would cover both?

#

You can always download and look at the images.

cedar lark
#

ah my bad

I didn't have any sort of issues with NPC map locations with SVE

late nebula
#

(I may be wrong)

ashen garnet
#

ah, one of those was for Starblue Valley

#

map colors

#

Hrm. Well it loads up, SVE is running, and the map is accurate. But the NPC icons are missing.

Do you have to meet them before they show up?

I don't... think so? I'll try
