does anyone else have a problem on Linux where launching the game through Steam doesn't load SMAPI? Tried reinstalling SMAPI but that didn't seem to do anything.

realistlcally all you need to do is rename StardewModdingAPI to Stardew Valley
and move the original game executable to Stardew Valley.backup or something

Like, the TimeSpeed, TMXLoader, PyTK, Json, all of that is still there, but none of the actual mods
I'm having issues to open my game, it's taking way too long to open/load and when it does, the game is laggy af to the point I can't even open my save file without waiting a lot of time (only for the game to crash). Already tried reinstalling & uninstalling SMAPI, reinstalled the game as well. Other games r working fine on Steam. Here's the log:

that helps too. If you're on Windows, make sure to reset your launch preferences if you're going to remove Stardew for good

that indicates a save corruption. Go back one day, see if that fixes it
if not, get the next backup save out (it's located in save-backups in the game directory)

Well- I tried that. Went to save-backups and unzipped it but my save isn’t in there
we didn't want you to go to save backups though

in general, you shouldn't be trying to play multiplayer with vanilla players unless you only use cosmetic mods. if you use stuff like stardew valley expanded, you could really mess up the game for both players

Has anyone have an idea how to make the anime portrait mod work?
I might've found a fix for the custom music mod playing the default music instead of the modded music bug. using the generic config mod, I set all the modded music to their corresponding tracks, instead of leaving it on the default setting. I haven't gotten the time to test this ingame yet since I'm still fairly starting out in my current save, but I'll give an update, Or if anyone with this same problem and has access to areas with custom music wants to test it out themselves and report back here, that'd be cool too.

I’ve downloaded SMAPI, but after selecting “SMAPI 3.13.2 installer” it shows me the “windows” option along with the other 2 types. Once I click on windows, it just says “Type path to game directory containing Stardew Valley.dll” but I don’t see anything saying that

you next need to rename Stardew Valley.exe to Stardew Valley_backup.exe and StardewModdingAPI.exe to Stardew Valley.exe

That means it crashed before SMAPI launched. To see the actual error:
- Open your game folder: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Game_folder.
- Hold Shift and right-click the folder background.
- Click the option that says Open in Command Prompt / PowerShell / Windows Terminal (depending on your system settings).
- Type this command: .\StardewModdingAPI.exe.
- Press enter to run the command.
If it says .NET isn't installed, see the updated install guide on the wiki (https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Getting_Started#Install_SMAPI), which includes a screenshot of the exact one to get.

there's a lot of greenhouse mods out there that don't replace the farm map too

Hi.. So my grandma's game stopped working after she downloaded windows 11 on her computer. I dont know how to fix the mods so i just tried taking all the mods out and uninstalling smapi so she could keep playing without mods. The game opens now but her farm wont, it crashes when she tries to load it. It still works if I make new farms though. Is the save file corrupted?

Sorry for taking it so long, I tried to get the log on the website without putting smapi back but it couldnt bc the error log didnt mention smapi. So I just put it back with everything else and this is the error log
Probably a bit of a silly question, but I've been using Experience Bars, and I realize that actually I wanted a slightly different thing. Is there a mod that gives you the actual number of XP you're at when you hover over the bars in the skills tab of the menu? (Preferably without having anything else; I suspect that like, Lookup Anything or UI Info Suite 2 or something can do this but I don't actually want a whole pile of other info too)

ok ive figured out it can only be space core causing the problem because i one by one added them and it stopped working when trying to use it, when i star a new save it get to the black loading screen shows the dots moving but never actually loads, in the code it says, Cannot write XML declaration. Kinda sad seeing a bunch of mods not being updated I've noticed a decline in people making mods for stardew and I hate that most of them are just cosmetic. The logs are more difficult for me to read than my own folders. It probably is more straightforward in the logs, but my brain doesn't digest it as well or as quickly as just clicking through file explorer 😅.
Besides mods like sve and ridgeside which are fantastic mods
Some mods are more balanced than others, but different people have different play styles
It's one thing to say that most mods aren't to your personal taste, it's another to say they're unnecessary
And if you have a bunch of mods it takes a year to load them so it's Iike why even bother if smapi is downright bad
For example, PPJA isn't to my taste—it's just too big for me. But it's a mod that has had tons of effort put into it, and I really respect their efforts. So I just don't install it for myself!
Yea this all seems to come down to an opinion, and you don't have to install anything you aren't interested in. I don't see the need to disparage most mods just because they don't suit your playstyle
maybe make your own mod loader and keep it functional then come and talk? 🤨 mods are about personal preference, theres no such thing as unnecessary when people do this for free and for fun

Whoa, that's just how heavily modded games work. They take longer to load the more you add to them. If you're not willing to wait for a game to load, don't play it.
It's a massive framework with a huge user base, and Pathos takes a lot of time and effort to support across a bunch of weird edge cases in users

Yes, I've verified that I can launch the game without the smapi, game version is 1.5.5, smapi is version 3.5, I have verified the game through steam. I'm not sure what it means by the legacy branch, I have them installed on the same drive, and I running the api.exe in my game folder. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game twice now and still nothing.

if it's an open source mod you can compile frpm source
the vast, vast majority of mods are open source. You can compile from source for all open source mods
for the remainder, you can use software like ILSpy to decompile
Nexus at least scans all mods for viruses.
Finally - most Stardew mods rely on a handful of large frameworks to do the actual code part
content packs arent "open source"
but they also are pretty. simple
hard to hide a virus inside
it's just a jdson file and some images
That said -it's good to be cautious and to be able to figure out what programs on your computer are doing1

So i downloaded a mod that has a cp version and an adopt n skin version. The only difference between the PNG files in each folder is the naming of them (babygoat.png and babygoat_1.png) is that all the difference? I just have to make sure their named that way?

When you get the [Content Patcher] is trying to load two mods but they use the same character but different sprites message do you have to get rid of one sprite set?

My goal is to have mostly sprites from one mod but where there are mod specific animations use the other mod's sprites
So if I were to replace all the defaults sprites in the mod with animations with the sprites I want, then disabled the other mod, would that in theory work?
Can you tell me what mods they are? So you have a different mod for the sprite and a different mod for some sprite animations?

Hey guys, do you know why when i enter and make a new game and watch the "cutcsene/intro" until the end it will black-screen or crash "when loading text appears" and if i skip it, it will not black screen or crash.
It's not a big problem but i just want to know why?

Had that issue from not having PyTK updated, one of my mods was very unhappy with it so anytime I tried to load a save or make a new one it would black screen
Oh and i wan't to know how to install shaders and how it works because i think my shaders mod doesn't work

They give me returns in the form of the rewards (access to desert, access to garden pots)
Which eventually let me earn more money

I use cheats to test my mods, and the only issue I ran into is that if you time travel too much things can crash
Also, there's some things that only happen when you sleep
So they just will never happen unless you let it go to the next day

And sleep to another day and turn off the cheat it will make me slower
