Ridgeside is too much for me too. I mostly load independent NPCs play through their storylines then remove them.

@outer turret East Scarpe is a really lovely mod; using it now for the first time. Sorry so many people flaked on the NPCs.
I find it kind weird how I'll activate a heart event with a person who isn't even in the building

thanks. It's not so much that they flaked... it's just that people lost interest and moved on, or didn't want to make NPCs with a dependency o another mod (I basically started it cos my town map being patched all over the place and took 20 seconds to load)
It's really sad that SG never finished theirs though since I'm sure they were very close to completion (and had portraits and sprites and a house and everything)

i also take a while because I like to playtest my mods organically (ie: set the events off during actual gameplay rather than force them)
as for activating heart events when the chars are absent... there's a trigger precon called P which means "Char must be present on this map" and I am guessing SVE doesn't use it. I try to.
I've also found since 1.5 that weird stuff happens when you end an event with a warp out of the map. I think it's mostly intended for warping you outside of houses, cos when used on outdoor maps (such as town or bus stop) it warps you into houses. I had one warp me into Linus's tent, also my theater backroom and Juna's cave.

possibly. Simple thing would be to remove that mod from the folder, start the game and see if you get the same error
they aren't meant to be used together, so it's only redux or the original

i always liked npc location compass more. so nice to be able to walk on a map and see what npcs are there and in what directions
although i guess you can do that with the minimap of npc map locations to some extent too
Hi people! Im new to mods, is there a way to alternate from vanilla steam sdv and modded sdv?
I dont want to corrupt or use mods on a specific savefile
if you don't need steam overlay or other features you can launch the vanilla stardew executable from the game folder (can't remember the name). with mod groups i think you can have steam overlay and other stuff as well (using empty Mods folder or one with the default smapi mods) https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Getting_Started#Can_I_have_different_mod_groups.3F
you could also rename the Mods folder to something else so that smapi can't find it

(Right now, when i use the direct access from steam, it loads up smapi, but i want to have the vanilla version as the main version rather than the modded version) srry for bad english, it is not my main language
maybe you could use the mod group method to set up the modded game and leave the launch options for the normal steam library entry for stardew valley empty (so that it just launches the vanilla game). but not sure what's the best way

Anyone able to help with my log? I cannot figure out what's causing this error on load, and the last weird JSON error I had caused some serious issues that managed to crash my 64-bit, so want to figure it out before I start trying to play.

I get how it becomes more "lore accurate", but i hate having to walk all the way to joja to buy cheaper seeds in SVE, is there a way to disable cheaper seeds in joja or is it like hard coded into the mod?

hey guys sorry to bother (I'm usually on the making-mods channel) but do you guys know of any mods or frameworks that let you replace a map on a specific day? Like I'm trying to replace the town map with a custom one on Summer-20 each year and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do it
that would probably be content patcher using a when condition (ask in #making-mods-general and i'm sure someone can write out the patch for you even)

It's pretty neat that you're using Barn Incubator Support, but do you have anything that actually uses it?
Not yet, to be honest. Mostly because I haven't found any that require it. But I saw it and was sure I would end up making use of it from SOMEONE'S mod (not mine, I don't make mods), so I got it installed. This way if weird errors pop up as things update (not explained by "nothing uses this"), I can be ahead of it. I've been kind of grabbing mods in batches, and expanding animals is next in line.
(One of the first things I do for Framework mods is check the requirements for other mods that have them listed as a requirement, but nothing shows there yet.)
It does have its little demo mod, barnosaurus Rex, but it kind of amazes me how many people actually have downloaded it for its lack of current use.
Oh right, I need to re-download that. Forgot to re-download and install that after you fixed the manifest confusion.
(I'm TERRIBLE about remembering to grab optional files if I remove them because they didn't get along with the main mod for whatever reason)
Updating bfav might be more important if you want the barn incubator to work

I don't know about the camera bug, but there's a bug with Downtown Zuzu and Walk to the Desert Redux that messes with the warps and screws up NPC pathing. Combine that oddity with SVE and RSV, and you get A BUNCH of NPCs that go into an NPC only warp on the bus to get to the desert, then get stuck there.
Sounds very much like a plot for an "Outer Limits" episode
And Claire and Martin just don’t enter Pelican Town
They just show up at the Calico bus and don’t move
It's a problem with the way the game maps NPCs. One of the maps in Downtown Zuzu connects to the sewer in a way that makes SDV route NPCs in a really weird manner, because it's looking for closest warps, not actual shortest paths.
At least that's the understanding I got when figuring it out with Lemurkat a little while ago.
Have to ask - Where is Marnie Immerisve (and the Jasmine expansion)? Nexus and Moddrop get me nowhere.

You only need to uninstall one. Removing one will break the warps and fix the issue.

I know there's a file edit that can be made, but I didn't save the instructions from Lemurkat, so I don't remember WHICH mod we edited (I think Downtown Zuzu).
I do know that there was a problem with the WDR warp to Zuzu... didn't have anthing to do with sewers tho

That warp issue should be fixed. When the changed map names on DTZ, WTTDR's upper warp tried to go to maps that didn't exist and shoved you off to the void because of it. It's an easy fix, but I think WTTDR fixed that in its most recent update.
That's unrelated to the NPC problem.
ah... I have WTTDR, but never tried Zuzu, so my knowledge is basically just hearsay
I tend to get most of the map expansions. I'm sure there's a few I haven't nabbed yet (for instance, I don't have Sundrop City, but that's due to SVE incompatibilities), but if I find out about expansions, I usually grab them (which is PROBABLY why I have to run 64-bit to manage to save the game without crashing).
I'm not sure. Nothing jumps out at me from yours, other than Stardew Valley Expansion Redux (which is separate from SVE, and with use of configurations, compatible with it). I need to do more exploring on Moddrop though. I hadn't initially realized that some mods are ONLY over there.
If I uninstall WTTDR but keep Downtown Zuzu, nothing's gonna go wrong, right?
Because if I remember, WTTDR is on the list of mods that Nexus says that Downtown Zuzu requires
I think you'll have to warp to Downtown Zuzu with console commands.

That I don't know. I haven't unlocked the bus with those installed yet (because I keep adding and testing mods and haven't played a game since I got 64-bit running).

Heavily modded game, and finally grew a giant pumpkin, once it grew everytime I walked near it my game would crash, and now it seems there are a few spots on my farm where the game crashes. to update smapi you need to run its installer again, same as when you first did.

sunny, you need to reinstall SMAPI - good timing too, it updated today
i'm assuming you're on mac/linux
technical details of the mac/linux implementation of SMAPI mean that when the game updates or has its files verified it deletes 1 (one) important SMAPI file. you don't have to delete anything to install new SMAPI
just run the installer again
bits and bobs are technically hats and blush/makeup so that can't be the case
you can safely install SMAPI over SMAPI as many times as you like, SMAPI will just treat it like an update or a file validation

Cosy cafe are new recipes and I had them in my game longer than the soda mod so maybe it's fucking it over

yeah cuz the cafe mod used to have a parfait recipe but the updated one replaced them with soda

if you have stardew installed someplace weird, or have it installed to multiple places on your machine, put the installer in the Stardew Valley folder you want to install to and it'll autodetect that install location
unicorntears you can delete the ice cream mod, or if you want to do things the more complicated way you can read item lists, find the duplicate recipe, and delete it from one of the mods

some people go for doing little tweaks here and there for compatibility, some are more "they must work together out of the box"
I don't trust when the nexus mod requirements says "this mod need to run with this mod (optional)" but really it actually needs it to run everything
cuz I think that's the case with the ice cream mod cuz the other recipes are optional they said

iirc the ice cream mod has a bunch of extra content that's only available with other mods installed
yeah so i'm gonna go delete it, the sodas are cute tho
like, if you install Lucky Clover, iirc it detects that mod is present and adds a clover ice cream to the game

I love to tinker with the various machines, but it gets ridiculous after a while
also the baking mods that make new cakes and desserts but my gawd so many requirements

Uh. That's only a part of the mod.
Content Patcher has a .dll, a .pdb, and a manifest.json when you download it and it needs at the very least both the DLL and the manifest to be present in the Content Patcher folder
and the pdb is probably important too
Here's my Content Patcher folder, fresh off of Nexus - the config.json is generated when you run the game

you don't need to delete the folder with code mods like this
you can just drag Content Patcher from the zip into your mods folder and say Yes to the overwrite
it's when you're looking at mods with a lot of subfolders, like JA packs and complex CP packs like DSVO, that you really want to do the delete mod and reinstall thing
and with CP packs in particular you may want to delete everything but the config file
mods with lots of subfolders are prone to subfolder rearrangement which means that if you just overwrite you can easily get bits of the old versions hanging around in the new versions
potentially causing...problems.

And a CustomFurniture invalid json error in Pride Flags - there's either a random full stop in the file as the first character, or it's choking on the full stop in the name
yeah like two thirds of this log is custom furniture repeatedly dying over Pride Flags' "._content.json"
if there's a content.json there delete the ._content.json; if there isn't you need to remove that full stop and underscore
and check inside the file for errant beginning-of-file full stops

When you add a Json Assets content pack to an existing save, you might have Json Shuffle bug

@sick cave OutOfMemoryException errors on Windows mean that your game ran out of memory. The game only has access to a small part of your computer's memory by default. See this page for more info and common fixes: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Troubleshooting#OutOfMemoryException_errors_.28Windows_only.29.

is it possible to do this with all ja pack at the same time?
your options when updating/adding/removing a lot of JA packs are either "remove all JA items from the world beforehand", "accept there may be JA shuffle errors", or "do it one pack at a time"
note that if you're removing a JA pack you do need to get rid of all the items from that pack from the world (spawned forage is fine to leave iirc, SMAPI cleans it up)
JA has some ID Fix code but it can only handle fixing 1 pack at once
the shuffle errors aren't gamebreaking or anything you jsut get really weird items
like that time i got a bizarre hybrid between a wine, an item called Dried Cactus Flower, and PPJA's Dried Flower item with a different flower
they sell just fine they're just interestingly weird.
sometimes their sprite becomes two or more sprites overlaid
my bug net once turned into the worm items that mark gathering spots, that's the sort of weird you can get too

Weeds Honey: one person in particular appeared to have a game that was just cursed or something because JA big craftables kept being called Weeds Honey. every time they got one big craftable to stop being Weeds Honey a different craftable turned into Weeds Honey.
hence the reference in one of the soda packs? XD
it turned out that, if a BigCraftable has the same ID number in the BigCraftable table as Honey does in the Objects table, the code for displaying honey names eats its name.

Ironically, at the time, honey that was missing a preserved parent sheet index and wasn't storebrought plain Honey or Wild Honey did not correctly do a fallback name and instead was entirely nameless. The game handled this terribly.
Like, massive errorspam and no tooltip on mousing over it, can't pick it up, and trying to save while it existed resulted in the game crashing.
And yet a bigcraftable that was erronously being treated as honey did get a fallback name...of Weeds Honey.

SpaceChase, after tracking down the cause of Weeds Honey (eventually. this took some work.) fixed it by just making JA bigcraftables avoid sharing a number with honey.

Tuna Chest: someone playing with Chests Anywhere had a chest category called Honey. Their game crashed every time they tried to save. Every chest they had in the Honey category was trying to have the display name Tuna, and nothing else was effected.
It turns out that chests and tuna use the same ID number in different categories, and for some reason this interacted with honey display name code or something to result in the chests being treated as a hybrid of the BigCraftable with that ID number and the Object with that ID number. But instead of just doing strange things to the name, this crashed the game because it couldn't handle having items stored in a tuna chest hybrid.
After seeing people start having the shuffle, I didn't update JA

SMAPI makes a backup of your save folders to the save-backups folder in your game folder. All it does is zip your current save folders into that folder, it doesn't automatically restore any saves.
If you deleted a save but it's still shown in-game, that's probably due to Steam Cloud Sync. To actually delete a save, launch the game through Steam and then delete the folders while it's running. That way Steam will sync the deletions to its cloud backup.
so in the future if i ever have to delete sd and smapi to reinstall in the future

If you're uninstalling and reinstalling Stardew Valley temporarily, you don't need to do anything else. Uninstalling the game won't delete your save files, which are stored somewhere else.

Ye I have a mod that renames the dinosaur egg to turtle egg and sometimes I see those FTM messages
FTM only goes by name rather than item ID
For the others I think you don't have the Lucky Clover mod installed.

Ah, I should have read what the mod does. I see now that it identifies the problem mod. so, "warpCharacter: getLocationFromName returns null for Custom_Tarniyar_GhostTown [NPC: Martin]" I believe thats part of the walk to the desert mod, so should I give disabling that a shot?

Yeah my kids spend all their time pretending they have a shop in town, they setup their little place with chests all full of items, I just wish I could surprise them with an npc that actually goes to them to buy stuff lol
imagine the mines part of the game expanded a bit. more focus on combat and loot, and you run a store selling your loot. Now that you mention it, I wish that was in SDV. It would translate so well

Yeah, seems like a heavy programming thing. Mapping npc routes and maybe an interactable crafting item like a display stand that you can put an item on and set a price or something.

Maybe the shop is a tool and when you have it selected any npc that walks by has a bubble of text that appear above their head saying they want something and if you go talk to them while its up I hijack the normal dialog....
But you will want to setup shop somewhere cause the item they will want is random and you need to have a ton of chests nearby... that would be much easier to do

@sick cave The way I would fix it is search my mod folder for files named "Ostritch" and inside all json files. Then I would figure out which objects are in conflict and remove one.
You probably have two mods trying to create the same category. 2 mods that have BFAV as a requirement. So right away you know you need to look in all folders starting with [BFAV]

@sick cave in case you don't know, you can keep both mods if you comment out the item definition in the json files. If you dont find the conflicting object take a look at the [JA] folders

Both on PC. I try to update all my mods and then transfer them all over on a thumbdrive.

i cant currently get my log up but SVE was working fine until just over a week ago, i’ll look into it again tomorrow and hopefully try to get my log.
I'm having an issue using a controller with the new SMAPI update. I'm on a mac and previously had to do a workaround to use a controller. However the 'open -a Terminal' text has been changed in the new update. I'm still not able to use a controller and now can't do the workaround. I've attached the workaround I was using. Does anyone know how I can fix this or if there is another workaround? Thank you.
your log obvs has thousands of errors in it, and that makes it slow and hard for you to figure out the real problem... any red text you can fix is progress
that said, your crashing bug appears to be related to JSON Assets
so it's a good idea to get a slightly updated JA from https://github.com/pepoluan/SDVMods-space-3/releases/tag/nightly-20210703 and see if that fixes anything
I haven't had a chance to update SMAPI... can you find the updated line that runs StardewModdingAPI.bin and paste it here?
if you want to continue with that workaround it's probably still possible
that will make it easier to fix for sure... and also have a think about what you changed last week 🙂

No it didn't work. It still loaded SMAPI in a terminal window first which I think is what is not working with the controller.

This is what the person who came up with the workaround said: What this does is disable the smapi console window which only has the one annoying side effect of requiring the user to remove or delete the smapi-internal/StarderModdingAPI.crash.marker file in the case your game crashes before being able to launch Stardew again.

Something i find kind odd is how refilling your watercan when your at low energy won't make your bar go down but will make the sweat droplets appear

if I could get a test case that was quick to produce, there might be a way of patching around the bug instead of just logging it
I haven't used it myself, I'm just going by what has passed through here. truthfully I don't recall any bug reports related to moddrop, everything I do came from vortex. broken files, lost configs etc. but several from the modder and debug community have repeated it's best to manually handle installation.

@rugged fiber that has apparently been fixed 1.13.7 (not sure if that version is released yet)
otherwise you can use the no-clip mode mod to handle situations like that, it makes your farmer able to walk through obstacles
Hi! I realized I should have probably put my question in here but when I try to start Smapi I get an error saying "The game failed to launch: System.IO.PathTooLongException" and I don't know how to fix it. I was really close to getting to hold hands with Shiro on a date and I'm upset
that's usually caused by having mods inside folders with long names (say the nexus archive file names) and moving the actual mod folders out of those folders fixes it normally

ah yes, woops, time multiplier. you can type in smapi itself: "time_multiplier_change 2" which will make time go by twice as fast. I did 0.15 because I wanted the day to last longer haha

i think that's a problem with downtown zuzu, walk to desert redux and maybe some other mod combined

you'd have to look at the log after the error appears :>
It seems to happen after the game runs for a certain amount of time
but does showing the npc help necessarily, if it's caused by mods messing with warps
(as in map warps)
if it's an individual npc I guess, they could remove it ;-;
but the map patches that messes it up could come from another mod just as well

My game completely freezes when that error occurs for me?
I believe there was an issue before, where NPC's would go all the way from zuzu to the sewers in pelican town for some reason and the newest update from WTTDR should've fixed that
I wasn't sure at the time whether the problem was caused by the map or the NPC
so I logged both, and now we know it's the map 🙂

so my suspicion is, one of the WttDR maps has an old warp to Custom_Tarniyar_GhostTown which doesn't exist
yeah i had a very bad experience with mod drop it threw me errors that were never there when i just load smapi through the folder

I don't know much about it, maps is not my area, I was hoping Warp Snitch would give enough clues that mod authors could say "that makes sense to me, I see what I've done, let me fix that"

well i'm inclined to think that some mod combination or even a single mod is messing with warps in a way that breaks character pathing (by creating a circular route for them for example)

this sounds likely... now the thing is, WttDR doesn't seem to provide a map called Custom_Tarniyar_GhostTown, but it's plausible that one of its other maps contains bad warps to Custom_Tarniyar_GhostTown

hi so i am wanting to 100% the game and want to get rid of the mods i have so i complete it 100% vanilla....but last time i deleted mods my game i made with the mods was gone and it would take me to the home screen if i tried loading it up, so i reinstalled them bc i still want to enjoy that game in the future. so i was curious if i could just uninstall smapi while leaving the mods on my pc would that work so my current game that im wanting to make to do 100% perfectionist on wont have mods but then when i eventually do want to go back to my old game all i have to do is install smapi and it will work fine bc i never deleted the mods off like previously? i hope this makes sense as im bad at explaining

Not really unfortunately. If you jailbreak the Switch, you can directly replace game files for very simple mods (e.g. to change pet sprites). You can't run SMAPI mods or content packs on the Switch even if it's jailbroken though.

The vast majority of mods won't work on Switch, but some very old ones (or ones you manually create) might work if they don't cause bugs due to outdated content.

Using Ridgeside. Fun mod, but the fish are kind of ridiculous. They all sell for thousands of gold and produce things like prismatic shards, pearls and iridium bars in fish ponds.
Had to resolve to throw them away after catching one.
They're also very difficult to catch.
I mean, you can't get them at the start of the game, sure. But even after you hit fishing 10, and can catch them pretty easily (especially with a meal boost), they're still OP.
I don't object to having something else to catch, though, for the challenge.
give the RSV devs a balance suggestion maybe
(Rebalancing them to be more accessible/less valuable is planned for a future version iirc)
IDK though, I'm okay with my lionfish being worthwhile given that you can catch it within a total of 16 hours in an entire year
Hm. Different pages of the wiki give a range of 9 hours on the 10th, or 5 hours on the 10th.
