i played with romanceable rasmodius and sve with the update and it was all good except romanceable rasmodius overrides some of the sve dialogue and i had two wizards at the winter star event. Some of the portrait expressions can get a bit mixed up but not by much

but you've been turning the zips into folders so you have a folder structure of [extremely long nexus zipfile name]/[mod name] for your mods
SMAPI's log has the folder paths for the duplicates!

so you have eg Mods\Stardew Valley Expanded\StardewValleyExpanded and Mods\-Stardew Valley Expanded--3753-1-13-4-1623788184\Stardew Valley Expanded\StardewValleyExpanded

You could just update them in small bits. Don't have to do them all at once.

Alright so, I think I've gone a little overboard with putting together this mod pack (especially since I went on a downloading binge at 4am) and now that I'm looking at it, I have a feeling that I think I might have some mods stepping on each other's toes, notably some dialogue ones.
The ones I'm concerned about are:
Canon Friendly Dialogue Expansion For All Friendable Characters by gizzymo
Marnie Deserves Better by IllogicalMoodSwing
The Ranch Expansion Marnie and Jas by lemurkat
The various Narrative Overhauls by haywrites.
Would appreciate if anyone has any experience with these letting me know if I'm good to go, if there's something I gotta delete. For the record, I haven't installed anything yet.
none of those should cause actual problems with each other, but some dialogues may get skipped and the lore may not be consistent between all of them
Haywrites's mods will definitely conflict with Canon-Friendly since the CP versions aren't proper CP, they just use CP to load an xnb file so it'll overwrite Canon-Friendly. Won't break anything, but you won't see the dialogue for both mods
the Load should happen before the edits by canon-friendly unless that was changed, so the other way around
CP processes packs alphabetically though, so Canon-Friendly gets loaded before just about everything else dialogue-wise
my understanding is that Load always happens before EditData
Either way, they're still not compatible with each other

It was def a case of "Hey this sounds cool, and that sounds cool" then I check my folder in the morning and now I've got 200 mods

Marnie Deserves Better should be compatible, I think? From memory, it adds new events rather than new dialogue, so it should be fine 😄

Also you can still use Canon-Friendly and the Haywrites mods - one will just overwrite the other for the Haywrites characters, but you'll still see Canon-Friendly for the other characters 😄

I've never heard of Mod Organizer 2? The main ones people use are Vortex and ModDrop.
mo2 has a plugin for stardew now
its like beta
most ppl use for skyrim but its used for lots of other games now too !
thing is, SMAPI organizes the load order by itself, so Mod Organizer isn't needed here, like it's needed for Skyrim, where the load order matters and has to be done manually
To be fair, there are situations where load order is still useful, for example, in cases where you wish to override mods that are bundled with another mod (SVE being the most obvious, but not only, example) or just to enforce a specific load order, because smapi's load order is not particularly smart.
That said, vortex does well enough for me.

the easiest thing to do if you want to play with a lot of mods in mp is to just make a google drive or dropbox folder with all the mods you use and send it to the other players once you find a game

I don't really have any advice for that, honestly. You may find asking someone to use wabbajack or MO2 a bit limiting to your search. But if you want to know how to style it, just skim over the other modded player posts. 🙂

Sharing privately is something that's fairly expected amongst multiplayer groups, speaking as a mod author
there's not really a way around it other than making each person download and set up every mod themselves which is onerous to the playars.

for like, 3 mods - otherwise SMAPI handles it all
pretty sure that pack just forces the non-bundled version of the mods to load instead of the bundled versions so they can be updated independently, which you can also do manually or with vortex, and only really applies to SVE or the one or two other mods that bundle dependent mods with it. 🙂

what does extract mean

Can anyone help me with modding? I'm installing stardew valley expanded. I've done it once before today on a different computer. Downloading the bundle through ModDrop and hand installing all the mods doesn't work. It says that certain mods can't be added to the game like Json Assets, SVE, immersive farm, and new objects. it says it needs a later version of spacecore? which i have the most recent version.
Which version of SpaceCore do you have? (It was updated today.)

I installed SAMP via Vortex. Launched SAMPI.exe from the root folder of the game and got the error: oops smapi can't find the game. make sure you run stardewmoddingapi.exe in the game folder. I already tried updating the local files, but it didn't help.
(Nexus doesn't know what you have installed so it just always prompts)
iirc if you install SMAPI via Vortex, you can only launch it via Vortex
(uh, iirc is "if i remember correctly")

Do not use Vortex for SDV modding, it causes issues with SDV mods

Vortex makes the path different for Vortex reasons

but if you didn't do the steps to get it, which are something you have to actively do, then you shouldn't have a -x64 smapi
It seems that I did nothing for the sake of using the 64-bit version. Just did the usual installation via Steam

So I'm looking at the changelogs for space's mods and they often say that they fix compatibility for 64bit mode for his mods. What exactly does that mean? They worked mostly fine for me
iirc one of them had a memory leak in 64 bit and others were extra laggy or otherwise did weird things
the memory leak explains a lot
on the bright side, 64 bit at least takes way longer to crash from a memory leak!

if you're updating mods and one of them is a "delete old files before installing new ones" make sure you either delete the old files before the Mass Extract, extract them outside the mods folder, or un-highlight those specific files before the mass extract

ok Houston we have problems with Extract All....when i extract all it seems the folder changed from the zipped kind to a regualr folder...but still in zipped format....then i double click on it and the folder i am supposed to put into mods is there....do i need to extact again?
it doesn't delete the zipped folders but it should put unzipped folders in that same area

Also, the TL;DR of using SMAPI 64 in vortex is as follows if anyone wishes to reference it for people that prefer to use vortex later:
Follow normal SMAPI 64 instructions > In vortex go to games tab, click the + on stardew > select manually set location > select the depot folder everything got set up in > go to mods tab > click deploy.
(i use another method instead that lets me use my mods between both 32 and 64 bit for testing, ping me if you're interested in how that's done.)

I feel smart. I fixed a mod in an hour that i didn't know how it worked and kinda learned a little tiny bit about APIs \o/

That happened to me several times in the early days after I moved my mods from "Mods" to "Mods.Actual"
Run game, see my mod had an error, went into the code to fix it, Build, start SDV, see same error popping, spent quite some time tweaking the code+build+SDV+error ....
Then finally realized the build had been dutifully installed to Mods and I need to copy them to Mods.Actual
I want a coconut palm in my yard, & have the plantable coconut tree mod, but don't like that old-style image. If I just copy the palm tree image from Stardew Foliage Redone to the plantable coconut tree mod, will that work?

No, the vanilla non-fruit trees are in a different layout than the JA trees. You'll have to manipulate the image to put the sprites in the right places.

True... I found that out when I wound up with an invisible coconut palm in my yard... the coconuts were just haning in midair... however, I used one of Raff's images & it works fine. Except that palm tree is straight and I wanted the bendy kind @neat violet

I think it was not MD erroring, but rather his SDV erroring because some mods are updated some are not (due to incomplete coupling with Nexus)
((which, of course, is not MD's fault, but simply because the tsunami happened in Nexus))

Is there a mod that will show on the screen (not in the game configurable options screen) at what % the screen and the UI are zoomed? It is kind of a hassle to go into the configureable game screen each time to find out if I have them a) zoomed and b) both in sync

I'm having trouble with lag again. And i don't know what the cause is. I noticed it the last time i played stardew valley and i'm unsure if it's because of a mod i'm using or something else... I tested it on both the 32 and 64bit versions with the same result. I even tested it on a fresh save and a preexisting save. My computer is turned off right now because i just got out of bed so i can't provide a log i'm just asking for tips
