Yeah, usually you'd down a .zip file.
like, it said to move it to the mod folder
And you'd open the .zip file, and drag the folder straight into your mod folder.
And it would automatically extract it and put it in your mods folder.
And assuming the mod is 1) compatible with the current version of SMAPI, and 2) not requiring other mods to run, it should work.

You should see a directory.
A folder within the .zip file.
That folder needs to be drug into the Mods folder.

Hi there, I am new to using Stardew mods and I just have a quick question. I have downloaded everything I need (I'm pretty sure) to have the Romanceable Rasmodius mod and I also downloaded a separate sprite/character change for him, but the sprites/portrait are not showing up in game and I'm not sure what I've done wrong

Interesting, well that makes me feel better that it's not just me. I think I'm getting a prompt from the romancable part when I go into his house like new dialogue, but the sprites are still the old ones.

like it's happening even with things like Diverse Stardew, where sometimes they're in their vanilla portraits / sprites and then other times they're not and the mod loads fine o.o

Check your config. Also, enable NineExpressions for Portrait Mode in the config (keep in mind LfL portraits and the one for this mod aren't that compatible). Also, overwrite the mod's portraits and sprites with the one you want to use.
ive been seeing this in my own game, mostly on the island where its a tossup if they use their seasonal outfits swimsuit or their new vanilla one
i just installed smapi and 1 mod but when i open the game the resolution is wrong and its grayed out in the settings making it so i cant adjust it
Also, it might be a different case if you use the SVE version of Romanceable Rasmodius, but you still have to overwrite the files with the assets you want to use. Both versions of this mod have been updated this month, so maybe the problem is your configs...?

Go into the folder for Romanceable Rasmodius, click on config.json. Also, there should be documentation about the configuration in the mod's page.

I'm currently mixing up Yellogs furniture and dustbeauty's lovely furniture. It's coming along well, but takes time.
I use Gwen's medieval buildings, Way Back Pelican Town, and Gwen's SVE medieval buildings, never had an issue with Earthy

Hey so game crashed after having the split-screen co-op player leave the game. Any idea which of my mods is causing this?
Nah, it's all good. Just going through and merging/deleting things. Both mods have so many pretty things in them, that I want everything...but with CF still broken with no fix in site...meh.

yes it's normal. Macs leave that junk that's invisible to a Mac but you can see it on Windows. You can delete it if you want, but your Mac will probably just make that stuff again.
also if u still have the reshade ur doing lmk. i really can't find any recolors that doesnt eat up my korean vibe

GreenhouseGatherers is what prevented you from saving at the end, but it does look like NPC map location is causing an issue beforehand
If you still have an issue with Greenhouse Gatherers afterward let me know and I'll look into it. I never really tested it for co-op.

Stardew Valley can only use up to 3.5 gigs and something weird has been going on that's been causing higher memory useage than normal

I walked from the farm to marnies and my game crashed, is there any reason why that might have happened? I see some errors with adopt n skin in my crash log but idk if that has an effect? Maybe bc of her cows outside
I'm wondering if the issues you're having might be specific to Korean Retro rather than the recolor mods are touching buildings, because earlier you mentioned Earthy Recolor was affecting buildings, but it shouldn't

I’m using adopt n skin and I can apparently set my horse to have a preferred skin, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to set it.
It doesn't crash all the time. Just 4/10 times I play.
Irrelevant, regardless of how much RAM you have Stardew has a code limitation that caps it to around 3.5gb maximum
yeah now using earthly. but idk why it doesnt go on top of the mod tho.

It helps to not play long strings of days, and to close the game and reopen it after every season change

It's likely a mixture of you having many particularly large mods, and some weird bug that people have been trying to track down
I haven't gotten a chance to boot up my game to try it yet or not but I decided to try the suggestion of turning preload to false for all of the SDV and RSV music except the RSV town song. The only problem this is supposed to cause is with the jukebox, but I don't use that.
It's a combination of number of mods and number of big mods, and custom music mods especially count as big. Big recolors count too, especially seasonal outfits

Custom music in particular tends to be disproportionately large yes
It seems like most of the music for these is event music, so it doesn't need to be loaded in ram the entire time

If you see your log, you'll see RSV and SVE also have components for Custom Music. It's not just Piano Valley
i saw Trent say he turned off the dependency for custom music for SVE and then deleted the custom music folder. I don't want to go that far yet since it might be nice to hear the music when it's actually supposed to be played.
Removing Piano Valley might help

Woman in a Painting also has custom music, so does Lyell, and possibly other NPCs, just adding that on here.
As would setting the SVE and Ridgeside music to preload = false in their...content.json i think?
list_creatures horse will tell you the horse's short id, then you use that with the set_skin command and the number of the skin you want the horse to have

I know other mods use CM
So I go set_skin horse then...
other mods do use CM but they don't use it as much so I don't think it's a big deal. it's really only 1-2 songs generally it seems

well that's interesting. for Custom Music can you as the modder choose to not have the music autoload? I looked at Nikolai (another NPC with custom music) and his Custom Music content.json doesn't have the preload function in the code at all.

To be specific, I'm having portrait conflicts with SVE and a portrait mod I'm using and both of them are trying to load their portraits which makes SMAPI load neither
So I was hoping if there's a way I can make SVE skip loading the portrait instead of commenting it out

So I tested without Greenhouse Gatherers and was able to finish out the day however it seems that's not the only issue as the game still crashed when the co-op left the game (split screen btw if that helps). It's not really a huge problem for me since it just means restarting the game, but I figured someone might like to know.

most of the errors are harmless, but when i press E i cantopen my menu, and the child age up portraids arent loading
child to npc is breaky i think, even the unofficial
Sounds like it's not loading the child properly. Or something has happened to affect your social menu.

I changed the config for child age up and it fixed both of the errors for some reason.

for sve, apparently the beach shortcut to the forest is blocked because it doesn't make geographical sense (they'd be walking through leah's front yard), so the hard-coded warp is behind a fence. so npcs that still used the warp on the beach now couldn't leave the forest XD
how did that somehow result in npcs on the farm???
idk that much, only what's been written in sve discord channels.

Turning all of the Custom Music to preload false for SVE, RSV, and the custom NPCs that had it made SMAPI only use ~1.1 GB of ram for me. I never got anywhere close to the out of memory error issue
Is there a way to get more detailed logging from SMAPI to pinpoint the source of a script exception?
showing the trace may help? if you post a log we might be able to point you towards possible culprits

I Installed Trent's Boarding House, but for some reason when I open the map only the Boarding house area shows as seasonal, why's that happening?

that sort of stuff is 'mostly' a stylistic choice for the dev, wether or not you want to have a version that's 'known' stable vs where you're actively fiddling with stuff
some people work almost entirely offline and only push when they're 'done' with a feature or set of changes, others push regularly to a dev type branch

Played SDV at release, for about an in-game year. Min-maxed that year, got quite far through content. Quit. Really, really enjoyed it. Anyway, i'm back and planning a more concise playthrough. Between then and now there have been a lot of content patches, but i'm not planning on going in unmodded.
This is my current mod list, it's really just a few of em:
Stardew Valley Expanded + Granpa's Farm. Context Sensitive Gift Cursor. DeepWoods. Lookup Anything. NPC Map Locations. UI Info Suite.
Any other recommendations? Must-use mods, in your opinion, etc? Been trying to filter out any outdated mods.

The community center is done but it shows up as Pam’s house (and pams house just completely disappears even though you can enter it???) and instead of Joja Mart there’s a movie theater? the beach tidepools are located at the other end of the beach. normally you can't walk over them, which can be kinda annoying to deal with. i don't really mind, but each to their own

confirmed that 77 is the max amount of people allowed for the introductions quest. no matter if you have more than 77 who aren't excluded from the quest, you just need 77 from that pool XD
recolour/reskin mods are usually ok for just one person to have. that just means the other person won't see the recolour/reskin you have, but it doesn't mess things up. if it changes more though, then you both need to have it.
this includes portrait mods as recolour/reskins XD
The reskin mods are funny on split screen co-op sometimes they work on one screen but not the other and it leads to funny situations

mod bugs in the past couple of days are the gift that keep on giving XD the return of the krs town curse, sve's weird npc pathing related to the beach shortcut (with some npcs even getting on the farm), and rsv's second redhead to walk on water

Soo love of cooking mod wasn't compatible with arcane tool mod apparently but I found out when I already had purchased the frying pan now I cannot delete that pan, disabling the arcane tool mod also didn't take the copper pan out of my inventory it's stuck there I can move it in my inv tho and the pan is named "frying panra" cuz of arcane mod even after disabling
There is literally no error in smapi and I don't wanna take love of cooking mod out as it may mess up my save file
So any advices/help is appreciated
@leaden nacelle you can do it either way. but it's easier to delete/update those kind of mods if you keep all their components in one separate folder

@leaden nacelle It depends on the mod. The mod page usually will have uninstall instructions.
Not necessarily, but certain mods have specific uninstall instructions, like SVE. For mods that add items using Json Assets (JA), you'd want to trash / sell all items from the mod, then save, quit, and then finally remove the mod

I'm having issues with these two quests from Ridgeside. The counter doesn't seem to go up when I harvest corn. I've farmed well over 500, I've tried gifting the stack, interacting with their fridges... but nothing seems to work.
Are these quests old ones that have been made useless with updates per chance and I'm now stuck with them?
PS: I tried gifting Pika some mayo based on the text description, also did nothing.
I've heard this issue can be triggered by updating Quest Framework while you have the quest active. Are they not cancelable? That might be something to request from the RSV mod authors, so there's a workaround o:

hey all, when updating SVE is it necessary to move the data folders into the new installation?
within the mod folders themselves they have data folders that contain .save files
I've never done that. I just delete the whole old one, and put the new one in its place. 😐

You can use the same save files when updating SVE
But it can cause weird bugs if you don't delete the old things properly

I updated smapi to 3.9.1 and updated some mods and now suddenly when i load a game the time goes way faster than normal? Is anyone else having this issue?

Unlocked some new community center bundles, and it completely broke everything, couldn't open the bundles, couldn't go outside
The only things i have that edits the community center is, Love of Cooking and Challenging community center bundles
It looks like it's crashing while setting up the menu
QF is a complex mod and I think Purpling is open to pull requests and open to anyone able to help fix these issues and/or help maintain QF.

U may regret it
There's no good way to roll back in a situation like this. You can use SMAPI commands to change the date, but it doesn't undo things that happened like NPC affection loss or crops dying or whatever. My advice is to just roll with it. It's a setback but Stardew is very forgiving and such delays aren't that big of a deal in the long term.

16 days isn't very long, so restarting is definitely an option. For me it would depend on what my goals were for that playthrough and how the other player felt about it.

There are backup mods that can help you avoid issues like that in the future. Maybe even the default one with a different config

POTC allows that I'm pretty sure
Leo and Farmhands have issues, it seems, with still having friendship decay
@still fable CJB cheats has the option
You'll have to nerf the default config though since POTC on its own is OP

Default POTC I was able to max out everyone in a few weeks
But that's with some knowledge of gifting and gifting frequently? I won't be too active in that department.
But i'll look into the settings, as that does sound a bit too much.
I think witness and CC Bundles are the most imbalanced parts

potc is about passive points, not "no decay"
so you'd still need to work a bit before getting them to a no-decay state

True, I guess it's more about what happens after you max everyone, and POTC gets you there quickly
do you have a working audio device @leaden nacelle? it can be muted, it just needs to be plugged in and working or custom music will crash and not load
however, with ppja, the shipping bonus is fantastic for vanilla npcs XD
you need witness for custom npcs, though

Yeah, part of Automate compatibility patches automate to follow the allow/block lists of storages
only part of SVE is loading, so that's why you're getting all those errors

Some of the top comments in POTC are other player's "balanced" configs
You can tweak the config file, I recall in the comments someone had shared theirs

Three on the first page, I picked the top one and ran with it in my current game
Really though you can't say there's any wrong way to play, if managing the relationships is not a part of the game you care about then by all means run with whatever works best for you

I don't care too much about managing them no, but I do realize they unlock a lot of stuff and convenience and can outright make the game a lot easier. So I'd prefer not to have hearts handed to me on a silver platter either.
That's why I'd probably prefer a no decay, but nerfing POTC will be just fine too.
I think in vanilla it's a very active task to get max relationships at the end of year one, but with POTC default you can accomplish that a little more passively

I have v 1.3.1, should I remove it or is it safe to keep using? I assume when he says "destroy data on your disk" he means just for stardew, which can be fixed with a validate files sweep
i dont think any of seb's loved gifts can be iridium quality except for void eggs
