Yup, uninstalling mods is pretty lowkey in Stardew Valley, especially for recolors. Only issue would be if it's a Json Assets (JA) item.
im using farm rearranger but it's still too zoomed in..
does anyone have any tips lol
and sorry to ask again but hypothetically, if I were to uninstall content patcher/ play my save game on a desktop without smapi or such, would that be...really bad?

You can set up rules so the screenshot is automatic based on a set of conditions, or based on a hotkey. It's pretty cool! The mod description on nexus has more details as well
Usually personal use is fine, as long as you indeed keep it personal (i would avoid giving it to friends since in some case they redistribute it too). Unofficial updates also are allowed on some conditions, i don't remember details but they have strict rules
again if im only using reskin mods
This depends on the mods you have installed. If it's only recolors, you'd be ok. If you have things that allow you to say, put buildings / objects somewhere not allowed in vanilla, you'd have some issues. Again if you use any JA mods, you'd have issues. Otherwise, you'd be ok

playing vanilla on a save that was modded ? it is sometime possible but usually require cleaning up (less needed with only reskin.). Suggested steps would be : remove modded added content (new items and such, not resking), remove mods, run smapi once (smapi fixes a lot of stuff when removing mods), then play vanilla)

Actually the only other thing is the item spawner but someone did mention if I spawn a vanilla item I would be fine going back to vanilla right?

It may be the way you ask the question. I've had people come at me like "why do you have so many mods? Isn't XYZ enough?" and I'm like 🙄
Just because I use a ton of mods, doesn't mean anyone else has to, I'm a big believer in "to each their own."
I have a number of tags blocked on nexus because I don't want to see that type of content, but I also don't knock other people for using these mods, and try not to question it

Content Patcher (CP) is sort of like a mini Mod Organizer, don't know if you've used it. So instead of directly replacing the game files, the mods hang out in a separate mod file while your game files are safe and sound.
You do Mod authors need to format the mods properly for Content Patcher to process them, and then for SMAPI to process them, though. Users can then install the mod to their Mods folder

[#4974] "Switching to a custom farm map can be done, but you'll need to do extra steps in order to make sure you don't have buildings / items in the void, or not properly lined up.
- Grab Reset Terrain Features and Noclip Mode to set you up, and Crop Transplant Mod for a way to move your crops and trees.
- Before you install the new map, you'll need to remove all machines / chests / etc. on your map. You can store them in a chest, preferably inside your farmhouse or barns /coops / sheds.
- Go to Robin and move any buildings you have as close to the farmhouse as possible. Save before going to the next step.
- Add the new map mod (ensure it replaces the farm type you're using, i.e. Standard, Riverland, Hilltop, or Wilderness), and you'll spend some time moving everything to a proper place.
You can use Reset Terrain Features to reset the bushes, trees, and other debris.
Noclip Mode will help you reach any things that ended up in the void or an invalid tile.

I'm having the worst time trying to update my mods. No matter what I do I get a literal endless log of errors on SMAPI. Will my save file be affected at all if I just uninstall and try reinstalling all my mods

Start with the Skipped mods section. You have the "skipped mods domino": you're missing 1 mod, which is kicking off a bunch of other stuff not loading. In your case, you're missing Farm Type Manager.
You also have 2 mods you can update, they're listed at the top with convenient links
Can you confirm it's in your Mods folder? The log says it's not o.o
It also looks like you may have 2 mods that are XNB, or were not installed properly? "Modv1.1" and "Original" are the folder names

Idk it was causing huge json assets issues as soon as I removed it everything worked fine? maybe it had conflicts with my other mods I do have a lot of them so it could just be specific to me
Interesting, ok. Well depends on how much time you want to spend testing, but you could try checking which mod seems to be causing the issue, like if you temporarily remove all other JA packs and leave Ridgeside in, do you still get the error? If not, then add JA packs back in little by little until you find which one is incompatible. That way you can share your log and the mod(s) that are incompatible on the Ridgeside Village nexus page, and they could try to fix it

Did you install SVE brand new, or did you update? If you updated, you may need to reinstall it, and make sure you delete all the old folders before installing the new ones

Was it a config.json? The log would tell you if there was something invalid, including a syntax issue. To preemptively check for syntax issues, you could run it in the json validator site and set the format to none: https://smapi.io/json

Hello everyone! Maybe someone has had a similar issue: I'm trying to instal SMAPI on my gf's mac, I installed Mono and when I try to run the install on Mac.command, I get an error saying that the file could not be executed because you do not have appropriate access privilages. I tried using chmod on terminal, but all i get is that there is no file or directory.. pls halp

I'm not sure I understand: does the swim mod change the tile? If so, then yes you should report with the screenshot and a log (because a log is always pog)

but with the swim i got to know the existence of water in this tile

I'm mostly working on SMAPI, the mods I maintain, and coordinating the 1.5 migration, so unfortunately I won't be creating any unofficial updates for a while. Skill Prestige is open-source though, so there's a good chance another modder will update them soon.
I have Visual Studio and I nominally do this for a living.

Hey, I just wanna ask, does the Look Up anything for trees takes into account the things put next to the tree ? Because it said 100% chance it will grow and it didn't grow but the tree that's right next to it grew
Yep, it should take those into account. Non-fruit trees have random grow times though.

Is there a mod where I can move particular item to particular named chest in the world. Bus Stop area - Honey artisan move to cellar chest named honey
Chests Anywhere and Automate have a couple rules you could use, but I don't think they are name-based
I also don't think it'd warp them across maps o.o
Automate works only on connected path, Chests Anywhere has no option what I needed. Thanks for the response though. It would be great mod dev couple impliment the feature

So like. If it's raining in Pelican Town, right. ||it might not be on the island, which I believe is called Fern Island. You have to ride a boat to get to it||

I love Climates of Ferngil soo much it makes everything feel so alive... also the Moon stuff for Dynamic niht is gold
once it loaded fine cjb loads fine for other saves - and i did the list_items in SMAPI and it loads fast.

I read back a bit in this channel and so far my understanding is that in 1.4 there was something that maps were referencing for the external greenhouse tiles, which is no longer there in 1.5. But I don't know where to change it to to reference the new location

@covert basalt It was working yesterday but now its not. I think its because I triggered the minecart with SDVE
than it will be on the first floor, after the SDVE updated the skull cave the change was to make the elevator right in the first floor
should be something related at config.json

Just for more information on this because I didn't see it nearby, (sorry if it was added much further down!) converting to CP immediately benefits from a few advantages over XNB mods -- not overwriting files as Lenne mentioned, showing up in the log for troubleshooting, not getting reverted when updating game, easy to (un)install, etc -- but it doesn't make anything more likely to be up to date or compatible with other mods or not break new content or anything just by virtue of being in the Mods folder.
You can take an old and broken xnb mod and Load it in CP (even if unpacked first because xnbs are Bad and Scary) and it will still be just as old and broken as before, but at least anyone helping you will know it's there hehe
On the update impact for the migration guide for example, the CP vs xnb is misleading in that the CP column is more like "if the author was selective in their edits and as compatible as CP allows". If it uses Load it's considered an XNB mod for the purpose of that table.
This isn't an endorsement of XNB mods by any measure, please do not use them, but even with those you can just reset your files.
Adopt and Skin Users ( who uses Elle's), do you all set the horse to False inthe config? (cause that seems to be an optional step?

not even a mouse : but a CP patch having wrong dimension for example will fail, when a XNB mod with wrong dimension will make bigger issues no ?

I think maybe I didn't get point across heh, what I was replying to was itself a thread like "as long as you don't use xnb mods you can't break game" "wow so as long as I use CP?" Where my point was not that CP is not better in every way, but that SMAPI and CP can by their advanced natures do anything xnb modding can do. Including"breaking" the game in the exact same way, or in new and interesting ways (but they are easy)
I think Lenne meant for example like your files would be fine underneath, but you can have a completely fucked up experience from non XNB mods that would still effectively be "my game is broken" haha.
And to the specific question, for what I was talking about no, that would be for EditImage with coordinates and I was mostly talking about Load
i installed a map for my standard farm but it has this glitch, there should only be the green patch and not the dirt one (it's where the greenhouse should be) can anyone help me fix it?

It's not a glitch, just the map wasn't designed for the greenhouse to be moved hehe, you'll need to edit the map to make it pretty

I suppose my bigger sticking point then is that with CP mods, it's much easier to tell which one is the problem via the log, whereas with XNB mods, it's not as easy to tell because they're not in the log 
(the thing i disliked with XNB and reseting files is that that erased everything including stuff working fine)

A select few have custom install instructions, but for most, it is that simple

@swift beacon If you still want to use Vortex, I suggest removing them through Vortex first to make sure it doesn't get confused when you clear the Mods folder. If you won't be using Vortex anymore, you can just clear the Mods folder directly.

this wouldn't directly fix it, but convenient chests lets you stack to chests outside of your current location, so maybe you could use that to stack from one place to another (into a chest used for automate)

That's pretty normal depending on your computer and what mods you have installed. Some mods increase loading times like SVO and SVE.

Ok so I'm still getting a crash when I approach my greenhouse on my custom farm map:
- I edited the extra tilesheet names to be prefaced with "z" as per the instructions mouse linked me
- Then I edited the area around the greenhouse using Tiled to duplicate the greenhouse area from the default map
- Then I just deleted the custom map and loaded the vanilla hilltop map using TMXL
- Then I deleted the TMXL folder completely (so its now using the vanilla hilltop by default)
All times crashed so I don't think it's an issue with my custom farm map. Here's the crash log for when I loaded the vanilla hilltop file using TMXL: https://smapi.io/log/a6fd12175555435f875a35f06ee0f353
And I've already deleted Ento Framework so it's not that issue either
Both of those mods got content updates for 1.5 so that could be part of it. But without a SMAPI log it's hard to pinpoint the problem. Feel free to attach one if you want 🙂

I use a shameful amount of mods although I've pared them down since 1.5 (I had great performance despite 80+ mods in 1.4)
Not broken means it loads and doesn't crash. Not that it isn't bug free.

Under the hood buildables are just map edits with a menu so if they aren't prefixed it's pretty much exactly like using a full replacer that isn't

Hi guys! I know manually installing mods is considered best-in-practice, but I'd really like to use curseforge (I was using Vortex) to keep things updated. However, it doesn't detect any of my mods, nor does it install mods to SDV when I attempt to. Anyone know what I'm doing incorrectly?

If you're determined to use a mod manager, we recommend ModDrop over Vortex
skylark, you could manually fix the map if you're willing to open it in tiled? or notepad++ if it's a .tmx
But the curseforge modloader itself doesn't have any stardew valley mod managing capability at all

I have a learning disability, and installing mods manually is difficult for me. 'don't use modloaders' isn't helpful when I already admitted I knew they weren't received well. Thank you all anyways for your advice.

@supple anchor Factory reset and Windows reinstall is the only fix we've ever found, if it's the same issue. Basically the XNA install gets corrupted somehow and reinstalling XNA doesn't fix it, but a clean reinstall of Windows and XNA does. (It's kind of a nuclear option, but we never found another reliable fix.)

I'm not able to buy BFAV animals at all; I'm trying with rats, lung dragons, and crows, and the icons don't appear in the shop. The crow code is also removed from the farmanimals json after loading the game

manual install is recommended over mod managers. ModDrop is recommended over Vortex as a mod manager. Idr if you can have the modgroups using ModDrop

Any idea why like skin mods don't work on Linux or no?
Any time I've tried to use a skinning mod - and I've tried several - it just doesn't show up. Doesn't crash the game or anything, just doesn't do the thing it's supposed to
(Modding is pretty cross-platform here unless specifically noted, so it could just be as simple as they didn't use consistent capitalization in their file name vs how they referenced it. Your log should should have some information if it flat out didn't work, or a patch summary for a CP mod.)

Linux is case sensitive so there are mods that might say "tell SMAPI to do something with my file at assets/MyFile.png but then the actual path is Assets/myfile.png hehe. I think they should be fine for CP packs because Pathos, but other mods are usually still sensitive, so we'll need to know what's not working before guessing

For certain mods on nexus, they require Jason assets or content patcher? I was wondering if they did the same thing and it’s more of a matter of preference when using them. A lot of the mods in downloading hold two versions of their mods, with one running on Jason and the other cp (I’m on windows as well)

Json Assets (JA) and Content Patcher (CP) are 2 different framework mods. They are written in code and allow other mods to do more fun stuff. Different mods will require either JA, CP, or both, depending on what they do. Be sure to check the requirements for the mod you're trying to use

yes, they're 2 shortcuts with different targets (because of the name of the mods folder)

that's a fair point though mouse, some mods will have either / or versions (replacers vs. new item)
Sometimes you might have a mod that is 1 mod with 2 components and you need both. Sometimes you have one that, with CP, only replaces existing things, or you can use JA version to add brand new no replacing, and would use only one but it would depend which behavior you prefer.
Sometimes there are 2 options and both add new things, one by extending assets via CP, and one by adding brand new via JA, and you only need one and it should really be JA. We need to know which mod and you should read the mod page
If you are offered a choice of "this OR that" you definitely should not have both components. (But you can have both frameworks, just not both versions of the same mod.)

huh, yea looks like the wiki may be down right now. basically, download SMAPI from nexus, extract it somewhere like Desktop or Downloads (not your game folder), run the installer according to your OS, and then tell it you want to uninstall
I think you'll also need to reset your steam launch options since you uninstalled SMAPI

I really just can't recommend ever overwriting the game files. It takes like 2 seconds to convert to CP and you don't end up putting in the wrong folder, it shows up in the log when you ask for help, it doesn't get reverted by game updates, etc etc
it's pretty simple to make a CP pack for portraits instead!

I don't really like that DIYCP includes assets because I've seen people edit outdated ones, but as long as you remember to unpack your own versions before making new it's fine (+ if you're just using to convert it doesn't matter hehe, it's your replacer that will be working or broken)
if you want it you can spawn one with CJB, ||horse flute||
It's just kind of a tradeoff where there's a downside either way...

Hey guys! does anybody know if its possible to use custom greenhouses with SVE's Grandpa's farm map? I know it was possible with IFR2 (which is what I had prior) but I switched to the prior and now I basically can't access the greenhouse. SMAPI throws no errors either.

i tried opening the bundles for the first time and my player got stuck and for some reason the smapi site crashes when i try to put in the log 
He's updating them primarily on his Discord server, and I think just hasn't bothered to update them online for some reason? If you go to any of his mods nexus pages you can get the link to his server, and then just search there for specific ones like Luck and Magic that he's touched up.

May be the log is too big. You can open the log with a text editor (Notepad or Notepad++ work), copy from the very top of the log to the bottom of the first couple errors, then parse that at the site
