When it comes to adjusting quantity, I stow the item in a chest somewhere, then save it and edit the player file. I found that Brackets is a good editor that allows me to beautify the file, make my changes, then compress it back to 1 line and save it.
Food mods still don't work for me. Since everytime i install them None of the items show up and any other mods that i have that adds items they don't show up either

JA crashes when you have 2 or more mods adding the same item, it like...tries to assign it 2 item IDs at once or something? and then that fails
so it crashes in a way that's actually very distinctive
So some mods don't detect mod conflicts. Got it.
spacechase has mentioned that it would be possible to make JA notice two different mods were trying to load the same item, but then the problem is just "which one unloads"
Or they could be written so that, "Item <...> already loaded. Something is fishy here. Not loading <mod>. in the log
Of course, I'm just a beginner, so I don't know what APIs exist.
"not loading [mod]" - it was likely already half-loaded and now you have a different kind of mess :P
basically 1 item having the same name as another item is relatively easily fixed on the user's end - delete that one item's folder or folders in the mod of the user's choice - but attempting to get the software to solve it automatically produces Issues
it would be good to have it made obvious to the user though

I guess I was expecting the mod to be able to exit and have the SMAPI unload it after that.
i mean the problem, because yeah i agree that automatic resolving wouldn't be great either
honestly it would be better if JA would just crash the game in cases like this
smapi has a very good error handler system
...sometimes too good; if the save system dies or a farmhand enters an area that does not actually exist at all on the host game SMAPI recovers the game from the error but it still can't continue from that point so you just get stuck on a black screen and have to exit
(there was an incident in multiplayer once where the host forgot to unzip a map mod and then while we were trying to figure out why she couldn't find the entrance I went into it.)

usually though it just means that if a mod crashes somehow the game is still fine and in many cases it even recovers the mod!
it also recovers from a lot of various game errors like traces of NPCs or locations being present in the save that are not present in the game files (i.e. what happens if you remove a custom NPC or location mod)
Is there a mod so that I can adjust my basic controls before starting a new save file?

I was wearing the combat boots but I'd never bought the forge or upgraded anything
Yeah, that would explain it. It converts the boots to a different class when you get them, so you can upgrade them.
ah okay so it was just because of my boots? And it's fixed in the new update?
When it saves, it converts the boots back to regular boots- but I had forgotten to convert equipped things as well. The update fixes that.

i don't know any in-game way, but the requirements for many modded crops can be found here: https://mouseypounds.github.io/ppja-ref/crops.html. the information can be outdated though. otherwise you can do it by looking at the mod files, the requirements for most crop mods at least are in the json assets component of mod, something like Mod_folder/Crops/Crop_name/crop.json

Yup. Sometimes i switch to Yellog's when i want to feel extra fancy 
when i try to use child to npc it says i don't have the .dll file. i'm using the github version to go with the npc child for sve, and i extracted the .zip and moved the childtonpc folder to the mods folder. did i install it wrong?

Not sure if this is a mod or not but I have been building out a farm in the stardew planner (stardew.info) and trying to access today gave me a warning sign and this error: Error code: SEC_ERROR_EXPIRED_CERTIFICATE
tried on both chrome and firefox... so I don't think its browser, is it possible the creator/owner didn't update their certificate? and anyone know if they are in this disc

whenever i try to enter the community center, my screen fades to black but never comes back up and my smapi log is giving me an error that (i think) is repeating until i teleport out of it. is this the correct place to ask about help for this?

The one thing that sticks out is that you're using Advanced Location Loader, but don't actually have any content packs for it. Most mods has switched over to TMXL instead, so you probably don't need it. Removing it could be worth a try

I can't make heads or tails of it. You might need to do the un-fun troubleshooting route of testing half your mods at a time (try first removing ones that are less fuss to remove) and narrowing down to find the culprit
@velvet robin could you try without itembags? the only thing i can think is that Rabbit Floof might be making it freak out

@velvet robin What I do when I can't figure out which one is causing an issue is: Make a directory from the Mods folder (..\bad) and start moving mods from the mods folder to that folder.
Is there a mod out there that allows one to selectively enable/disable mods in the Mods folder?
you can also prefix the mod folders with . to disable them, windows will sometimes have a problem with that so you can add another . at the end of the folder name

linux is based on unix, but its more widely changed, alot of windows stuff is built into linux (somewhat anyways)

not sure if anyone cares, but i finally found the cause of the issue i was having! it was the "Nicer Center" mod. not sure what the exact issue is but at least it's an easy fix

but i think you just get BFAV, get your BFAV animals, then put the BFAV animals into a specific folder
translation:
- the mod you want needs another mod (BFAV) to work
- the original BFAV (first link) is broken
- a working unofficial update for BFAV can be found at the second link
other info: I don't think everything made to work with the original BFAV will necessarily work with the update. You might need to try it and see - if it doesn't work with the update, you can look around for an unofficial update to the dragon pack too maybe.

So I managed to download SMAPI and can open the game through that. I downloaded the SVE mod and it shows up as being there but do I need to make a new game for it to be put into there?

looks from your log like SVE is not installed to the Mods folder
Make sure you unzip the files and copy them into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods
(also need to do the same for all of the framework mods that are required for using SVE)

Ok - all your mods are still in zip files
just moved all that there
7zip is a good file decompressor
You'll need to unzip them (also called extract or unarchive)
Windows should be able to handle zips without anything special.
For each file, go inside the folder you see and copy everything inside. Go back outside the folder to here and paste. Then delete the original zipped folder.
And yeah you can remove the smapi folder from there
7zip, winrar, ark, the built in windows one
you can also just open it, and inside is a folder, and drag that folder into your mods folder

You're missing two of the other framework mods that are needed - FTM and Json Assets
Also just wondering, are you starting a new save for SVE or are you hoping to add it to an existing save?
starting a new one

That's the best way to go imo. It's possible to use existing, but if you use any game world that was created pre-SVE install, you just add a couple steps to get everything working smooth.
Late game saves can miss out on added content even so, though, so new is encouraged.

@untold lagoon SDV versionย 1.4.5.148ย broke android SMAPI on some (all?) devices. The mobile smapi dev is working on it, but he says the changes to the code are significant and might take a while, several weeks even. He suggest that people avoid updating to the latest SDV if at all possible until he's had time to finish rewriting SMAPI for it.

Yeah, that one would do it.
Found that out the hard way on the savefile where I wanted to go her route lol
But if you've recieved the invite it should trigger. Selecting the creepy choice prevents you from going down that branch and ever getting it, but other than that...

yeah i want it to be largely vanilla still as ive experienced quite a bit of the game but not everything so i want to see it for what it is before getting too heavy with mods

I tried everything the wiki says about it. Unless it triggers way late for some reason, it looks like I'm not getting it
If you suggested art show to her, she'll show up at your farm to invite you (leave farmhouse by 8am, and not in winter).
If you suggested website to her, you need to visit her cabin while she's there.
They are two separate events and you will get one or the other (or neither) but never both, depending on your choices in her 2 heart @junior musk

SDV 1.4.5.148 broke android SMAPI. The mobile smapi dev says the changes to the code made for Mono Android 10 are significant and could take several weeks to rewrite SMAPI to match.
I don't know if there's a way to revert game versions in the play store, and discussing alternatives here would break rule 5.

@languid sparrow were you able to solve the Zoro problem? In order to have Zoro's json assets you would need to download the custom NPC Zoro. And to have the NPC adventure working, you would need to have the json assets installed. The best way to download NPC Zoro would be to manually install him.

More gem names its objects "metal *" but then the files call for silver
"Metal silver" is the object from More gem, the object that More Gem calls "silver"
...what version of more gem do you have because that would cause the smelting recipe to not work, and in my game it works

Adopt & Skin can't do layering like CP does, so if you want a dog with a collar you might have to overlay the two images yourself in an image editor
(Unless the A&S pack for Elle's already includes collared versions)

does norton have a file quarantine type thing? check there and see if the exe is in there

you need to delete all folders related to SVE and do a fresh reinstall
you have some very old files for SVE floating around that are messing up your game

I know my SMAPI stopped linking to steam just today and yesterday, and i never actually setup launching it through steam, ive alaways launched it by clicking on SMAPI modding API in the programfiles/steam/steamapps/common/stardewvallley

If the steam overlay doesn't show up with shift+tab online play isn't working

Once theyr3 set launch the game via dteam
If you are not launching via steam whether or not your launch options are set is completely irrelevant.
Also you can even get launching via steam to work without launch options by adding SMAPIs exe as a non steam game

(side note, I launch the game from the SMAPI shortcut, with Steam launch options set, and I don't have issues connecting to multiplayer. I don't have to launch it directly from Steam to connect to multiplayer)
In my experience it usually doesn't have mp working unless I launch via steam

I launched from a shortcut directly to the launcher in the game folder and it worked untill yesterday it hiccuped
i reopened it and it worked fine
Because one time a friend of mine was really baffled that she couldn't get mp working until she discovered that steam was in offline mode

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\StardewModdingAPI.exe is the path to put in the launch options in steam right
would there need to be an underscore instead of a space in stardew valley?
That's the right path (assuming you have Steam in the usual location), do you have the quotes and the percent-command thing?
I'm on Android using version 1.6.6 of Smapi, and it force closes the SMAPI version of the game

having multiple keybindings would just be a comma and space right? like if wanted to have say F1 and LeftStick on my controller id just put "F1, LeftStick"

Yeah, I'm not using that version. I'm using the 2nd latest. The latest version is 1.7.0

it's also the only DRM stardew has, which is nice for those of us to like to keep playing on the old patch for a couple of days after the new patch comes out
we can just copy the entire stardew valley folder to elsewhere on the computer and it works fine

Hi, I'm having trouble with Smapi detecting/loading mods on Mac (yes I'm playing on a Mac lol), but it's fine with I switch to Bootcamp (I'm just too lazy to switch sometimes). I have the mods in the folder but it's only detecting two mods: ConsoleCommands and SaveBackup and not the other ones. I'm not sure what to do and would really appreciate it if someone could help me.
UI Info Suite and Always On Server appear to not actually be in the folder, they look like shortcuts?

hi can anyone help me with a problem? my friends and i have bb's shirt mods installed but it only appears on our own characters on each others computers. so for me itd only appear for me and not the others, how can i make it for everyone on multiplayer?

the reason why the smapi command in in quotations is likely due to most file paths dont like spaces, doing quotations makes it force it

Iโve never heard of SDV modding through Twitch, so that guide may not help. I canโt be of assistance either because I do it the recommended way.
i don't think stardew valley modding works via twitch at all
its likely a launcher or something
there's a few mods uploaded to curseforge so twitch probably just automatically lists those as addons for stardew valley
but they need smapi

if you have mods yea, if no mods then #vanilla-tech-support would be best
and I see lakovos posted in #vanilla-tech-support already, so they're set. Sometimes there's fewer people online (I've definitely noticed there's fewer on Fridays at this time of day), so you may need to wait longer for a response
