hey so im kinda new to using sdv mods, so im sorry if this is an easy issue that im overlooking something with. my game has crashed about 4 times now i think upon going to sleep on this day, and i assume its because my cellar is to be finished tomorrow (as in being added to the house map that night). i DID have a different house mod, but ive tried another house mod and just went back to the unmodded house and it still crashes. i assume it must be another mod, but idk where to start, since its apparently not one that actually modifies the house layout?

there are rival event mods to be updated but idk, i didnt do that yet because i didnt think THAT would cause it
I hear you, but updating your mods is always a good first step (in your case, of most interest is Custom Music)
We should also take a look at the Skipped mods section:
Backup Dialogue File because it's not a SMAPI mod (see https://smapi.io/xnb for info).
Happy Birthday 2.1.2 because it requires mods which aren't installed (Stardust Core: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/2341).
Immersive Characters - Shane (STF) 2.2.2 because it requires mods which aren't installed (Cherry.ShopTileFramework)
xnb dialogue to be installed\Characters\Dialogue because it's not a SMAPI mod (see https://smapi.io/xnb for info).
yaml file - can be read before installing because it's not a SMAPI mod (see https://smapi.io/xnb for info).
The first one, and the last 2, seem to be XNB mods. I recommend removing those folders, then going to the link those errors have to see if there's a Content Patcher (CP) alternative, and using that if it's available.
For Happy Birthday and Immersive Characters - Shane (STF), it mentions that you're missing components. For Happy Birthday, it provides a link to the mod you're missing. For the Shane mod, you're missing Shop Tile Framework (available on Nexus).
So I recommend updating all the mods that need updates, especially Custom Music, removing the 3 folders I mentioned above (and using CP alternatives when possible), and downloading the components you're missing for Happy Birthday and the Shane mod. Then, try reloading and see if the issue happens again. If it does, you can provide a new log

You did! I'm confused because it looks like Starblue is installed and loaded properly, but it's not listed with the rest of your mods at the top of the log

yea, but that shouldn't be causing issues. I suppose it's worth a try though, can you temporarily disable SVO by adding . to the beginning of the folder name, and then try loading the game again?

im sorry to interrupt, i have another quick question :') i successfully got past the day without a crash! but bc i had a modded farmhouse layout, ive got furniture stuck out of bounds of the house. is there a way to move them, or even just delete them?

Hi I'm sorry to jump in though Im hoping someone may be able to help me when they can! I removed a npc mod in a current save and another mod that retextures furniture is overlapping with the vanilla now. Is there a way to fix it cause I reinstalled the mod, but it didnt fix it?
@rare helm No worries! Yes, if you get No Clip Mode on Nexus, you'll be able to toggle the ability to run through the void and walls to grab the stuff out of bounds (or delete it if you want!)

actually the mod I removed before was a npc that had nothing to do with this one and this happened
I need to update my seasonal villager mod, but it turns out they made new outfits. I had edited Dreamburrows Elliot portrait mod (for personal use only) though and MAN I do not want to do that again for new outfits ;o;. I might have to go with the slightly cuter aesthetic seasonal villager mod instead. orz

Shirleylier, sorry but I am stumped, I've never seen that before. My guess is there's a retexture mod that's doing something funky with the spritesheets, but I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you out there

@round path I hear you, I learned the hard way to keep extra copies of my edited-for-personal-use Sam portraits and spritesheets that removed that RIDICULOUS mullet, but still use SVO
I tried to even see any errors, but I didnt see anything out of the ordinary and I can only connect it to the NPC which is weird cause he wasnt even living with me or anything
I have extra copies, but I'd have to make new portraits for new things. They added feast of the winter star portraits and Elliot's hair is COMPLICATED ;o;

Oh yeah. Some are recommended so they wont fulfill some of the items the mod provides and the others I do have to add

Hello. Hoping someone can help me. Today, I started suddenly getting errors with Pelican Postal Service (the unofficial update of it for 1.4).
It was literally working fine as of 24 hours ago, and still works fine on other saves.
I also tried removing all other mods, and it's still giving the same issue, so it doesn't seem to be that it's another mod causing the issue.
@misty tusk do these errors stop you from being able to play?
Also just curious - is the save that's giving these errors a new save by chance?

@misty tusk Hmm. I'm not sure what could be causing the error. It seems to be trying to look something up based on Friendship data but accidentally searches for something that doesn't exist.
Is your game single player or multiplayer?
Unless, somehow... does the game store any friendship-type data for the Goblin? Since that NPC disappears once you gain access to the witch's hut, maybe that could be the source of the problem.
In any case, the problem is probably an overlooked bug in the code of Pelican Postal Service itself. Could probably be resolved with an extra check somewhere for null values.

i don't really use a separate bathroom mod for the farmhouse because most farmhouse mods that work with 1.4 already includes the bathroom
seasonal garden farmhouse 1 and 2, minerva's bigger farmhouse. i'm sure there's more but these are the ones i've tried so far

Well the main issue with that as far as I can tell is that the conflict doesn't come from a specifically map mod, instead a conflict between the SVE mod and the Anthro Villagers Mod, both of which are package sets
choose one or the other. i think somebody else also had this problem, they deleted the maps/festival portion of the anthro villagers mod instead

Sombrage, first thing would be seeing if there's a config.json file for them, to see if there's already a way to turn off the edits you don't want. Otherwise, you'd have to go rogue and edit the content.json files to comment out or delete the edits you don't want

You can’t use another mods assets just by changing theFromFileif I understood correctly. Unless that was changed extremely recently.
Yea I referred them to commenting out or deleting because that seemed simplest, I wasn't sure that's what they were trying to do (what you just explained)

@fair vessel Yep, I replicated it on another save. The goblin is the issue. Henchman is added to the gift giving list in that small window of time. He even shows up on PPS's menu. But then after giving him the void mayo, the mod breaks. Like you said, it doesn't seem to know what to do with checking and not finding him there. Any clue what I'd do to resolve that?
From a user standpoint... you might be able to resolve it by manually deleting all friendship data for the goblin from the save file. I don't know if that would mess anything else up for the game (create a backup beforehand just in case), but if it doesn't mess stuff up, you should be free and clear.
Practically speaking though, this is really something that ought to be fixed on the dev end.

@covert verge with automate mod I had the same problem on my multiplayer game. We didn't have to disable the mod completely, but we did have to have the farmhand set up some crab pots that were unconnected to any chest. Then when the farmhand collected from those crab pots, they got the credit.
The thing is, I disabled the mod entirely & we played a day, it still didn't register the catches properly. When using LookupAnything, it said that she'd made 6, but owned 2. Which is weird in itself, because I still hadn't made or place any.
If any were placed in the world while automate was running, and they were connected to an existing automate setup, they probably got registered as being owned by you somehow.
Did you try having her pick everything up and put it back down while automate was disabled, and collect while automate was still disabled?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think so. Regardless, next time we play, we'll do that & test it properly.
It does seem like Automate is the culprit here though, your issue is way too similar to ours for it to be a coincidence, IMO. So thank your for your help, I'll probably ping you if it doesn't work 😉

Yea you learn to ask about antivirus from hanging out in #vanilla-tech-support. Ironically, while I'm good with troubleshooting mod issues, if the vanilla game has issues, I'm out LOL the only issue I've had back when I played vanilla was certain quest items getting duplicated, like Robin's axe, Linus' basket, and
. I thought that bug was fixed, but I had it happen again on my latest modded save, so I think maybe one of my mods might have un-fixed the bug

From the little I can see, it looks like you need to update SVE. The install guide should also cover updating instructions, but you'll need to delete all the SVE-related folders before you install the update

Ahhh. I don't know of a mod that does that, but you can search on Nexus! I'll do a quick search too right now
I don't see any mods that do that, but that doesn't mean there aren't any! If you can't find one, UI Info Suite (and several other mods?) allow you to see the bulletin board from anywhere, which makes accepting quests a little more convenient. Also you can suggest that someone make that mod here: https://github.com/StardewModders/mod-ideas
Is it possible to set the Automate mod to not yoink specific items from a chest? For example, if I wanted the not-large milks to stay in the autograbber/not be sucked into the cheese machine so I can take them home and use them for cooking. (Right now I'm just moving all the milk manually.)

@supple echo I don't think so, and that'd probably be a tough feature to implement because of how many items automate works with-just PPJA adds so many items to the game and they alllllll work with automate. What you could do is turn off automate just to that chest and then turn it on when you've taken your small milks out. Then if you have several to do, you at least wouldn't have to do them by hand.
Ah. Well, it was worth asking! Now that I've got Chests Anywhere and Chest Label System installed it's really easy to turn Automate on/off for specific chests, so that sounds like a good workaround. Thanks. 🙂

If you're just looking to play multiplayer, you don't need SMAPI for that, it's built into vanilla as of 1.4. If you want to use mods with multiplayer, there's a link talking about that somewhere, let me try to find it.

It's Stardew Valley in the normal filepath which might be why your launch options aren't working.

I have acquired a weird exit to title bug. Basically in my later day games when I exit to title and try to start a new game it tells me it cannot find Mines/Mine_lava.xnb.
Oh, mouse has said Exit to Title breaks all kinds of mod stuff, so to reload, it's best to quit to desktop and load the game again I:
Its secret cave but I took all reference to that out of it and loaded the file in the folder.
Nm it might still be in there.
I wonder if I've overwritten the file somewhere.
(Or just forgot to delete it. Broke my own mod...)

-the issue you mentioned. I recommend uninstalling SVE completely (delete all SVE-related folders), and then installing again

LovedLabels 2.1.0 because it's no longer compatible. Please check for a version newer than 2.2.1-unofficial.2-pathoschild at https://smapi.io/mods

I'm having trouble replicating the way Immersive Spouses does randomised schedule dialogue
So I want to make sure Immeesive Spouses actually works with it and its not a content patcher issue.
Basically if you talk to them on their day outside do you get the randomised dialogue or "}"
I found Leah sculpting in her old house the other day and got some dialogue about how she didn't want to leave splinters all over the floor at our home 🙂

Yes, that happens, the manifest.json file might not have the latest version # in there. I manually update those for myself lol

Hi, I've ran into an issue again. I tried to download mod for BFAV which adds crows as coop animals. There is an instruction about downloading it on the mod page, but I'm stucked on step where you have to add some code to BFAV config file.
It says "scroll to the end of code, there should be four brackets", but what I only have in my config is

So I found another file which is in "cache" folder, named "farm-animals" and actually has all info about them, but I'm extremely scared to add something there on my own. Maybe someone tried to install the same mod and had this issue?
Also, I've been playing with BFAV installed for some time, so I don't think it's like a first-run issue when config is just not created properly yet or something
the config method is for an old version of BFAV that only works with stardew 1.3.36
current BFAV uses a content pack format

Aww, hope it works! I can't remember if I did any tweaking, but I don't think so. If so it was minimal-just changing the name of a file or something. Good luck! If it doesn't work I can probably walk you through fixing it because I definitely have a working copy XD There's driftwood or a new pearl in my autograbber pretty much every morning!

Just make sure not to pick up more than one at a time or you lose everything in one of the chests

hello, is anyone of you guys using stardew foliage redone? it happens to me that the bushes maybe miscolored/overlapped with the original stardew map. I really want to ignore it, but it get to my head every time i see the bush 😦

I helped someone else before who did, and it was treated as a disliked item and didn't fulfill the quest. SVE changes things to also add a cutscene where you return it.

It looks like you have two mods installed that are trying to modify the same map, @keen ravine, SVE and "Gaveliere's Furry Mod." I think you're going to have to uninstall one of them.
Also, that screenshot is kind of hard to read, so it might be helpful if you link the entire log going forward 🙂
Is there any way I could directly remove one set of content from one of those mods? So that I can avoid having this bug

A while back I had this dynamic lighting mod, and it had a cool option to add tilt shift, where the edges of the screen had a bit of blur, it was a really cool effect. The only issue I had with it was that it blurred out my inventory too. Is there a way to have it behind any GUI? Do you reckon it'd be hard to code? I'd be happy to learn a bit of modding to get it to work

if you are scared to work directly with xnb files you can use XNB loader mod, so if it doesn't work none of your original xnb's will be damaged

given how old it likely is, it's almost certainly incompatible with stardew 1.4 (due to not patching the current shirts tilesheets)
I have the brown chickens into crows mod on... but I dont want the other chickens to be white. If I get a mod that recolors all the chickens will it effect the crows at all.?
It probably will for most of these sorts of mods...,but it might depend on load order. If your crows mod is named so that it sorts later alphabetically than the other recolor mod, then it should go after the recolor mod and you will still see the crow recolor in the end.
Or you can add a dependency in the mod manifest yourself, to make sure it loads after.

@junior ibex for mods that use smapi's draw events, it's relatively straightforward to draw things above or below the HUD elements.
If the original mod is a smapi mod and open-source, I imagine it would be a relatively easy task to adjust how the effect is applied.
But for coding something like this from scratch though... it could still be done with SMAPI I'm sure, but I'd have no idea where to start for creating the visual effect in the first place.

That's a rare breed. It doesn't use any of smapi's tools to hook into the game at all. It runs on its own, hooking into the game in a way similar to smapi itself

Ehhhh... a lot of my expertise is in understanding how smapi mods work, and then adjusting them is easy. Understanding how this mod works might be completely different. Possible, sure, to eventually figure out what parts of the code are useable and maybe transplant them into a new smapi mod... but not easy 
That’s a shame, I could look into some tutorials maybe, but I’m not exactly the best at coding, hopefully someone in the future will try to make a Smapi version, tilt shift was really cool
And the mod permissions of the original are pretty tightly locked down, too. Even if you did manage to edit or convert it successfully, you would only be able to use it yourself, not share with others.
So yeah, probably building a new smapi mod like it, from scratch, is the better way to go. But it's also a much bigger task, I wouldn't recommend it for a first mod attempt I don't think.

repost from other channel: not sure if this is a vanilla bug or a mod bug, but... i recently started a new game and got around to getting robin's axe, right? well, when i picked it up, it didn't disappear, but rather flipped horizontally(that is whereas the axe's head was facing right previously, now it faced left after picking it up). trying again i was able to pick it up again and now i have 2 robin's axes. also worthy of note was that the game gave a loot notification indicating i'd picked up a salmonberry after i picked up the axe the first time.
this is just conjecture, but i'm wondering if perhaps there's a bug where if a forage item tries to spawn in a location where another item you can pick up exists, that it can basically dupe said item when trying to pick it up? just a thought. here's my mod list for good measure.

CJB cheats also has a setting for machines to inta-complete, my first thought is to make sure that didn't get turned on

On a Mac, yes. I didn't have to do anything special with Steam after installing SMAPI.

Hello everybody! I'm not new to Stardew, but I'm new to the server and especially new to modding. I'll do my best to make sense here, but I am in a bit of a panic because I've gotten an awful lot of error messages and I am currently worried that I've screwed up my game.
After seeing that some of the mods I downloaded last week were in need of an update, I thought maybe using Vortex would make it easier to update without having to worry about losing any files. I downloaded Vortex, and then struggled for a while to figure out why none of my mods were showing up in the 'active mods' section, even though the file path was set for the mods folder I had previously created. Eventually I took the original zip files that I'd downloaded and put them into the 'mods' section, and upon starting the game up, SMAPI gave me a terrifying amount of errors, mostly equating to 'you have identical mods installed, stop that'.
Now my biggest issue is that I don't know which of the mods folders I should be deleting the contents of, and I'm not sure how to go about updating the existing mods without breaking things. If anyone could help me in any capacity I would be so thankful, I'm trying my best not to panic but it's a bit hard when I've put hundreds of hours into my saves and don't want to lose them.

Sorry everything got screwed up - mod managers can be really helpful but since manual installs are just a matter of dragging folders into other folders, it's often a lot easier to fix things that way. I'm not at my computer right now and am in and out, but it's really unlikely you broke your game and we can help you get everything sorted. Hopefully someone is around a bit sooner than me. You can start with uploading your SMAPI log here https://smapi.io/log and sharing the link, so we can see what all is double-installed :)

Oh, that looks pretty straightforward. It looks like in each one of your mod folders, you have another version of that mod folder inside it - like Mods/ContentPatcher/ContentPatcher. Just removing those additional ones should be enough

Make sure you extract the smapi folder to somewhere that is not your game files. Desktop is a good spot for example.

I changed the shops.json for the Tailor Mouse to add the mod IDs like so, which you get from the mod manifest.json (all the mods I listed in my mod list for clothes, I get through the Tailor Mouse, huhu~)

no worries! SVE does have several mods it depends on (because they add extra frameworks and stuff to the game), so make sure you get all of those too

Yeah I saw that there are multiple mods! I just hope my computer can handle all of them haha
they load fine (as in, theyre real objects I can wear) but the clothing in Coii Girls Set Pack (the PPJA conversion) are just black and white squares, what looks like bits of code, and sometimes just messed up or barely visible versions of the original clothing

@quaint rose you have several mods that could use updates, of special interest is Shop Tile Framework (STF). I recommend updating your mods and then trying it again. If you still have issues, can you provide a new log?

I updated every mod that needed updating, restarted my PC, restarted the game, uninstalled the mods that were causing issues and reinstalled them. Content Patcher doesn't seem to be bothering any more, but Multiple Spouses started having the same tantrums after I fixes the config file to my liking as it did before I updated the whole thing.
kaiidth, first thing that comes to mind: I see you could update Custom NPC Fixes. have you tried that? I'll dig a little more into your log as well

Mod crashed on entry and might not work correctly.
I laugh to myself when I've seen this happen to me, because I picture it like the mod is a person crashing through a door and falling xD

I didn't realize you weren't using the Tailor Mouse, my bad! Out of curiosity, if you click on any one of those spots, they also don't appear in your inventory?
they do! they're completely normal items. i can wear them too, but they show up as solid colored boxes on my body.
the pngs exist in the folder, but they just dont appear to load...?

I broke the town->East Scarpe warp in a new and fun way and now I have to go learn about maps again

I can get into ES from the northern entrance, but when I try to go in from the town area, it lets me run offscreen for a while but never warps to the ES map

Uh, I don't use SVE, sorry.
I do not use map recolors or anything else that changes the town map, but I did download Abandoned Bride right before this which changes the forest map
Uhhh I could give you my 311 mods mod list lol but for me it's usually around town with Herbert NPC, and a mix of map mods like Convenient Town, Stardew Enhanced Shortcuts, and No Cheat Shorcuts o.o
Maybe try asking @outer turret, she helped me with the warp issue.

I think it's SVE.
It is Lemur's mod, so she's got a lot of experience. I think for me it's probably the file structure, so I should probably mess with that before I bother her

Yeah SVE has been having issues with ES.
I thought I'd fixed that by loading the warp twice (once on loadLate) but I accidently uploaded the wrong file.
it needs to load after Town East. and SVE now loads late.

this should load the warp twice: once on load late so it fires after SVE. But if you've renamed your SVE folder it could throw that off.

I haven't renamed anything, but three days ago I pulled everything out of most of my folders and put them in folders for [JA], [FTM], [TMX], etc so I could look at things more easily and learn what my mods did. This warp was working fine until today, so I'm not 100% positive, but that was the major thing I changed.

what that does, the () is keeps the SVE custom NPCs in events.
otherwise you get duplicates of other NPCs based on load order.
(and we get bug reports on "why is X here twice")
also you get the bonus of access to the orchard with that one
I've just added dependencies (false) for KArmylla's maps, SVE and Lilla, which will hopefully help the warps issue.

I tried to change my game so I could have the mature events from SVE but when I did it turned all the icons to littke notepads and when I loaded the game it said stuff was wrong so I'm trying to clear my data completely

if you just want to go back to vanilla, I think you can ditch the mods folder and use the SMAPI installer to uninstall that and be good. But there are people in this channel who know much, much more than me

At this point I've tried to fix stuff myself and probably screwed it up even more so I'd probably be better off just getting rid of all my stuff
If you're just looking to remove mods, you can uninstall SMAPI and then delete the Mods folder.
To uninstall SMAPI, download SMAPI from Nexus, run the installer, and then select 2 instead of 1 in the console (black window) that shows up

your computer learning "this kind of file opens with this application" seems likely if a lot of icons changed all at once, btw. if that's the case it doesn't hurt the files 🙂
I doubt that changing one line in one json file is going to completely screw over either your game or your computer, fwiw.

Do you normally launch it through steam?
If so, you may need to do a tiny bit of tweaking to make that work again, since you changed the filepath when you installed SMAPI
You might've had to change your Steam launch settings when you installed SMAPI, yeah. Just change them back. 🙂

as of now, the only real game changing mod I have is SVE
Mine are heavy on the interactions.
Not always compatible with SVE though (functionally but not necessarily lore wise)
I'd be cool to have a mod where you can hangout with villagers, take a day to go on a hike or something. Idk recently I got really into the SV rp, now I just want to go to dinner with villagers or go on a walk with them and talk.

@full horizon your log doesn't show you have any cjb mods installed. make sure to extract the cjb mod you want in the mods folder.

depends on the mod you want to add. check sve's github page to find out which mods are listed incompatible.
also it depends what stuff the other mod does. for example if it's a custom npc, you can expect a few clipping issues unless there's a specific sve-compatible version. little things like for example there's a tree blocking the view in a heart event especially if the mod was made for vanilla maps.

Ohh, are you using IF2R on its own without SVE?
Recent updates made it rely on the main SVE packs for tilesheets. It wasn't intentional, but the result is that IF2R can no longer be used independently without some DIY changes.
The easiest fix is if you still have the older version of IF2R in your file history somewhere - then you can just revert it back. Unfortunately, the creator of SVE doesn't keep old versions posted on the nexus page.
If not, there is a way to fix it - a few people have come here with the same problem. Lemme see if I can find the convos
