BFAV stands for Better Farm Animal Variety, a mod by Paritee which lets you add new breeds of animals to live in coops and barns. Welp I'm back again lol sorry but I didn't realize that you should change the launch options if you had mod groups, so that you could have achievements enabled. So I changed the launch option but I'm not receiving the achievement for reaching level 10 in every skill? :< i slept and everything

What types of mods can affect whether or not a map tile has collision? I have a tile behind my farmhouse that is impassible, and I've tested the custom farm mod by itself and that isn't the culprit. Any suggestions on where to start looking?

there's not really a mod that will help you finish it, since it's money, without cheating

@dire fractal You can transition, but just note there will be a lot of stuff in places they shouldn't be. I recommend cleaning up your farm (like removing all objects) and installing the no-clip mod to clean up stuff out of reach.

oh noooo it looks like that version of expanded fridge doesn't work
it's trying to do something that needs Reflection, but it's not using Reflection :(
so instead it just...pulls an invalid operation error and dies
you might have to uninstall expanded fridge, definitely post a bug report with that log to the chucklefish thread though!

Hi, ran into an issue with mods and can't figure out how to fix - would love any input / direction anyone could offer!
(Short summary: there is a plate of fish in place of boots, and when I removed the mod that I think was the problem, it 'removed' the shoes as well so now feet are invisible)
whoops install it again, put the boots in a chest, and uninstall
or reset the day
these bugs typically happen when a new item is added, and then unexpectedly removed
and its substituted for a different item id
so the thing you want to remember is to never keep modded items in your inventory
in my experience keeping modded items in your inventory is fine, but don't remove any item mods while wearing any modded item

removing any item mod causes jsonassets to recalculate item ids
which can lead to wearing some really silly things
ah what i meant is dont keep them around if you plan to uninstall said mod

uhh dang this has never happened to me before, but hopefully reinstalling the boots works
also some of those update alerts are real (not quality artisan products but pytk and fruits and veggies probably are)

I had installed the giant PPJA pack that they made (which I love, because I didn't have to install 180 mods and only the one, basically...) BUT then I do still get the alert to upgrade the Fruit and Veggies? Should I try to wipe and reinstall those as well?

The PPJA Mega Pack is a single download for most of PPJA
but it might not have everything up do date
Inside its PPJA Mega Pack folder there's all the individual packs, so you can update them individually by wiping and reinstalling that one folder

Hello, i installed SMAPI manually (installer wouldn't work) launching the vanilla Version of stardew works fine but when i try to launch the modded version it open a text file (via steam it seems to launch and crash immediately) I'm on linux manjaro
You’re trying to open it with the smapi launcher within the stardew files?
the StardewValley file in the game folder should be a bash script, maybe you have it set it to open with a text editor as default
I tried via steam and it show "preparing to launch" and it seems to crash, tried opening it via the stardew files and it just opens the text file
if you open a terminal on the folder and type ./StardewValley it should run the script
try "chmod +x StardewValley" first

I've done all that, I've also completely reinstalled the game and smapi. The game runs perfectly fine on its own it just wont load any saves without crashing when smapi is installed.
And when launching through steam it just gives a white screen
after reinstalling dependencies it worked for awhile but then stopped working again
oh, it also crashes at the main menu when i go into fullscreen

Oh I see you have Kimchi Maker, I think Artisan Valley sort of absorbed that mod? That's probably the first one you should remove
i removed "even more recipes" and the game crashed instead of looping the thing

if you need a mod updater, you could look into ModDrop or Vortex
but manual is what we recommend
you download the latest version from smapi.io and just install it like you normally do
i've seen vortex cause quite a lot of issues with stardew, actually; most noteably even recently it seems prone to leaving manifests out or not properly removing mods that you try to uninstall (and uninstalling the old version is an important update step for some mods)
yeah smapi's installer is also the updater! just install the new version over the old version it handles all the steps

the most likely cause is a duplicate file that wouldn't be in a fresh download of those packs

(You can have multiple mod groups so that one set is for MP and one is for SP. Or just clear your Steam launch options to not start SMAPI so you at vanilla, and just launch SMAPI directly from the game folder when you want mods.)

Yeah SMAPI has an argument that tells it where to look for a mods folder so you can just have as many shortcuts or startup scripts as you want for different folders. But whatever works.

Mods usually have specific instructions if they require more than "unzip into Mods". I'm not familiar with the animated fish one specifically, but using that log site might help ^

@tawny kindle I don't mean installation instructions, I mean do mods have to generate new files and propagate changes which take time the first time you run a mod, but don't take time afterwards because the files remain after closing the game.
Ah...most mods generate a config.json file, but the default settings should still work the first time you run them
So aside from any special instructions, it should be fine
(and without delays/etc, everything generally loads before the game does)

yep, mods generally finish loading textures, spawning things, etc at the beginning of the day, so load times there can build up

probably not, that mod basically just saves and loads info about where NPCs/etc are and what time it was when you quicksaved
it still goes through all the usual loading processes for a "new" day
I'm not aware of any real optimization mods for things like that, so you might just need to reduce the number of new texture/map mods you use

kinda makes you wonder if there's a potential mod which just revels a ton a values to be easily edited in a config file. Like, money goals, when the cave gets set up, how much money lewis and pierre send you as a gift, relationship points needed for the heart system. ect.

Surely you know by now that we use the log for more than just errors 
It just provides your whole modding set up context, all the mods you use, your system, it tracks where you went in your save in trace (by logging when you warp), tells every mod that edits a particular asset, etc

Jani that's actually an easy thing to do, you would just need the dialogues schedule, and permission to use the assets
And Mousey's were based off actual files so if they changed at some point it would need to be updated
Some of the math Mousey did seemed to follow the PPJA spreadsheet instead of what he wrote on his own site.
It's not really that easy, since a lot of HG's content is based on her being a wizard substitute. You'd also have to edit her actual content and events and such, and you'd want to add more if you gave wizard events back to wizard, etc.
So you could make a shitty stripped down version but an author standalone would be ideal 😅
...I could possibly try to do it, that's true. tho with my procrastinating ways it would take like... years...

Guys I have question about the load order of mods. Do they actually load by alphabetical order? I have two mods that change the design of buildings, lets call them A and B. I changed the folders name so mod B stay below mod A. However when I load the game, it shows the design from mod A not B.
Only after dependencies are resolved.
If you want to (mostly) guarantee that one mod load after another, you should edit the manifest.json in any text editor (such as notepad) and set an optional dependency on it. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Modder_Guide/APIs/Manifest#Dependencies
(You can only ever have one mod that Loads any given asset, too, regardless of dependencies. Multiple edits are fine.)
(Loads always go before edits, too, so if something completely replaces it and uses Load, another using EditImage or EditMap or etc will always go after.)

I need to test map edits from other mods with that setting on but since most of Trent's maps are new locations and the merge is too tiny to want to edit I think it should be fine without side effect

@tight dune SVE's last update had to move the tilesheets to its CP pack in order to have them be editable by other mods (the other way stopped working, possibly as long ago as when SMAPI took over the loading of tilesheets from PyTK, but maybe later), and in order for that to work it had to add "loadLate": true to its TMX pack's content.json, which delays a file to load after CP. The side effect is that mods that don't load late now load before it, even when they have the dependency set.
Adding this to your Boarding House TMX pack's content.json should make it work as normal, and still allow your locations to be edited from CP since they're loaded as new files. Everything seemed to work as normal with Boarding House when I tested the change, at least... json { "loadLate": true, "addMaps": [ example
(this would also have fixed the IF2 unofficial update before last where I broke it by ovewriting the warp with CP - that update is out so it's not needed there, but y'know 😅 basically would fix any scenario where some CP mod overwrote warps)

they sometimes change files and folders, so you risk serious crashes
depends on which version you're updating from. if it's 1.9.6 or earlier you should manually clear everything out but if it's from a newer version, overwriting is fine @rich horizon

It doesn't really ever hurt to do clean install when you're not sure, yeah. You'll just have to reconfigure mods after.

I'd recommend installing Karmylla's Immersive maps. Changes a lot of interior locations, the town map, and adds a bunch of location messages.

can you have a directory structure like this: Mods/F1/modA, Mods/F1/F2/ModB? where the manifests would in the ModX folders, and the FX folders are non-mod folders
I don't really understand your example, but SMAPI will search subfolders for mods if that's the question.

npc map locations crashing again when opening the map. someone has reported the same error on linux so might be specific to that. i guess it's best to uninstall it for now

rename the tv mod to have a z in the front of it
and then open the content.json in the folder, and check to see if the patchmode is set to overlay or replace
if it isnt replace change it to replace

Does the error log mean anything to you?
@sudden echo For what it's worth, the error in that log is that SMAPI can't seem to find a tilesheet it's trying to draw. SMAPI stopped itself after repeated failures.
As far as I know, that error happens when a tilesheet (i.e. image file) doesn't exist; you're not using any non-default mods there, so resetting Stardew's content files should've fixed it. I don't really know why it wouldn't. I guess you could report it as a SMAPI bug or otherwise ask the dev, Pathoschild. Good luck~
(Also does it happen on a new save, or just with Taylor?)
seems the sve update broke stray catfe warp too
and adding "loadlate" to the tmxl content.json fixes the warp. hopefully it doesn't break anything else

update: I found ||apophis||. he's - uh, a bit visually underwhelming, and easy to confuse with ||corrupted serpents|| if you're not paying too much attention - esp because ||corrupted serpents|| like to show up in his ||spawn area||.
It does seem to work on new save files
further: lore wise ||apophis||'s size makes sense, but game-design wise it doesn't hold up so much - it needs to be clear that you're fighting a boss instead of a "mini-boss".
anyway, enoungh of me rambling about mod design.

The save works perfectly fine when I'm not using SMAPI so I doubt that rolling back a day would work

@rare quest hm... you can't tell it's there, against the red overlay. Perhaps it would be more visible in the void shard -aura colors? Actually - that might be what it needs, to set it apart from the serpents. You'd have to add more animation to it, however.

quick question, using better junimos, didnt want them to harvest crops that can become BIG CROPS, i put this into config, copied the "AvoidHarvestingFlowers": true,, will this work or fuck anything up? @alpine plume
something along the lines of smoke trails would match both ||apophis||'s movement, as well as the void shard's aura. It wouldn't be that hard to animate either, as it'd just need to be flat colors with varying layers of opacity.

as a visual effect added to the sprite, yes - but if you made it a part of the sprite itself, it'd probably work.

hmm... perhaps it hasn't been fully implemented yet?
If you cracked open the .pdb and .dll parts of it without it giving you what looks like gibberish, you could probably simpley copy+paste the "do not harvest flowers if the config tells you not to" and edit it to "do not harvest melons/pumpkins/cauliflower if the config tells you not to" and then edit the config to match it'd probably work, but you'd likely have to know your way around code better then I do to do so.
it's probably also a good idea to ask the mod creator about this on its nexus page.

you also should run SDV with smapi and nothing else once to make sure a mods folder shows up in the right place.
