The issue *might* be related to a bug I'm working on with FTM and Android, because the "dropped" item pickup code is different from PC. Hard to say, though.

Are Andy and Sophia in game from day one with SVE?? I seem to remember going to Andy's farm and having a cut scene on day one.... but maybe I'm imagining things cause it isnt happening on this save :(
they should be in game, but there are probably some requirements for the cutscene to happen, maybe you didn't hit them (i think i got that cutscene the second time i visited the area this time)

Unfortunately, System.InvalidOperationException is pretty generic. The "Animated Fish" mod's "flounder.png" file is failing to load, but it doesn't say why. Reinstalling that mod might help?

Even copying the Files from an another PC ( Mod folder), gave me exact the same issue ; The Second PC runs the EXE with no Issues at all :/

just downloaded my first mods today. are different character dialogue expansion mods compatible or will they cause issues?
It depends on what exactly they edit, and how they are edited. If you have two mods that both want to completely replace (whether with XNB overwrite - don't do it - or CP pack using "Action": "Load"), neither will work. There are probably not a lot of "modern" ones that do this.
If they (or "all but one") edit to add/change specific dialogue keys, the last mod to edit the same dialogue key will be what you see in game. So if Mod A adds a "spring money" dialogue for Abigail, and Mod B adds a "fall Tuesday" dialogue for Abigail, both work, but if both add spring Monday, whichever mod SMAPI loads last will have the dialogue you see in game. A lot of times this can be okay, if you're fine just getting whatever comes out of the overlap.
I'd check the mod page description and possible stickied comments in the posts section for any specific compatibility notes the author may have added, and check your SMAPI log for errors/warnings about things trying to load the same file.

Yeah, we really recommend against overwriting any base game files (anything that asks you to put it in the game's Content folder). They're easy to install wrong, harder to uninstall, are almost always out of date since most people use CP now, and they don't show up in your SMAPI log if you need help later.
If you see any XNB replacers that you really want to try, check this list first https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Using_XNB_mods#Alternatives_using_Content_Patcher and see if there are any Content Patcher versions available (the ones that just go in your Mods folder like any other mod)
(It's still possible for a CP mod to be out of date, especially if it completely replaces a file, but it's easy to uninstall, shows up in the log, SMAPI will give errors about it, etc.)

When I started SVE last week there was only 2 layouts, now apparently you can kind of customize the layout in the config
It won't corrupt your save, but all your crop and building placements will still be in the same place as they were with your old layout

I've got a question about using content patcher for reskins; If I take the entire original png and edit a few parts of it for one mod, and then edit another part of it for a different mod, will only one of the two mods work?

@rich oyster It depends how you mean - if both packs edit a different part of the PNG (not just the pixels, but like setting the coordinates with Content Patcher or using them as overlays), then they'll both work. If they both Load the file to completely replace it, neither will work.

If both packs use EditImage , and do edit the same parts of the image, whichever mod is loaded last will be what you see in game. (If one is Loaded and the other Edited, the one using Load will go before the one using EditImage.)
and you can also use dependency to ensure one will apply change after the other, if they both edit
So I have PPJA Artisan Valley installed and I don't see the infuser in my craftables list. Is there some special way of making it?
would it be possible to erase the parts of the png that I am not editing? or would that make the objects in-game disappear lol

PPJA has a website that tells you when you can unlock certain crops and machines
yeah they're not all immediately available, you get the recipes via stuff like mail framework mod and levelling up
lucah, if you use Overlay or EditImage with correctly-set coords, erasing the parts of the PNG you weren't editing will work
but if you Load it, or set too large of a coord area, then the erased areas will lead to invisible items

There's an issue the flower festival, but I know what caused that one.
It's the the final one on the log that shows up a bunch of times-- happened after the event chain with the racoon thing and trying to enter the town
I verified that the summer tilesheet is where it usually is in the Content folder, but it looks like it also needs to be in the Content folder itself while also being in the Content/Maps folder for some reason
Hmm OK. The downloaded game only has the spring tilesheet, not the summer, but I can copy-paste it into the Content one too.

The flower festival error is caused by me messing around with the map entrance/exit points for a map mod, just hadn't fixed it yet.
Hello, can I ask something about SMAPI? There's a bugged item in my inventory that I cannot remove or interact with. The problem only exists in my current save and I don't want to redo my whole playthrough. I saw a wiki post about smapi where there's a command wheer you can clear your whole inventory but for some reason, the command doesn't work. Can anybody please help me?
what is the bugged item in question? is it a mod item or a vanilla game item?

It's a modded item. I installed a mod called "armoured boots" and when I deleted the mod, my boots turned into a void (since I have SVE installed). I tried to install all of the previous versions of the mods that I updated but it didn't change anything.

It's an equipped item so I can't remove it using the mod.
Usually when you delete a mod it deletes all the mods item from your save so it's a bit weird tbh

Yup, I reinstalled it and I still can't interact with my boots. I get the feeling that the problem is in my save file since when I tried to create another, the problem is gone.
I saw a wiki post that shows all of the console commands that you can use on SMAPI and I saw a clear inventory command, I tried using it and it didn't work

@inland pasture You have several mods you can update, you should try those first. Was this a single player crash? (It looks like it, just confirming.)

Yeah I see I have mods I can update, but a lot of times redownloading from nexus and reinstalling won't update them, I could try regardless.
Also, the glitch happens on both singleplayer and multiplayer, tho I thought at first it was multiplayer only.
I didn't try with just SVE, but as I said in my reddit post, that's what I'm trying tonight once all of my friends are asleep.

@inland pasture If it were happening only in MP, logs from your friends would be good too! If it's easy to reproduce in single player that's obviously simpler, though.

Sometimes people forget to update their manifests. PyTK, TMXL, and Custom Music are not false positives, though.

Hey guys! Silly question, is toggling mods on and off a thing? I know some mods don’t work in multiplayer but I don’t want to have to continuously move my files around to play with friends.

You can also easily disable a mod folder (or your whole mods folder for that matter) by renaming them to start with ..
(technically you only need the one . but not all versions of Windows let you do that)

I'm only just glad to have a person to vent to, I guess, been having this bug for so long and I often get ignored since the smapi log is so unhelpful.

New world, sleep through 3-4 days, save and exit, reload, sleep, and it crashes. Everytime, over like 10+ saves at this point, if I save and exit I doom the save forever.
Can play eight hours real life hours straight, mining, farming, interacting with all the NPCs, doing everything else I can think of to crash, but save and exit is the only thing that crashes me. Bizarre.
I think simplest route before the hours of one by one would :
- Temporarily rename your Mods folder to anything but Mods (this will disable all your SMAPI mods while still running SMAPI itself) and try to reproduce it again.
- If you can't reproduce it again (which we would expect if it's some mod problem somewhere), try adding back only SVE and the mods it absolutely requires to run and try to reproduce it there. I'd try really hard to make it happen there, since it's a lot of mods being added at once and there's a lot of content involved, and you don't want to move on because of only sleeping two days or whatever :P
If it does not happen even with SVE installed, we can move onto frameworks and their packs in blocks. If it does, we have an SVE report! And if it happens even with Mods folder renamed, we'd do a content reset.

It would be weird for the warp thing. I've been asking for just a straight SVE run to rule out mod conflicts though.

@finite path I looked into the NPC Map Location crash issues and it looks like its happening if players have the mini map activiated. I'll push out an update soon that prevents players from entering Sophia's cellar as a temporary fix.
There's also some PPJA item conflict IDs, don't know if that had anything to do with it either
If the crash occurs after trying to sleep, could items that are trying to be generated for the next day and for some reason don't exist be causing the crash?

After testing that renaming my Mods folder didn't work, I took the plunge and deleted ALL of my Stardew related files, now reinstalling just SVE, I'm starting to worry that.
Resetting your content files would have downloaded any changed/missing files without needing to reinstall, but that takes care of that step at least. You should test without SVE first, though.

They need all the same mods as you do to run SVE. They don't need to use Vortex to do it, but they need to have them installed, if that makes sense!
(There's currently a crash when a farmhand marries any custom NPC, so they won't be able to do that for a bit.)

I've seen this glitch before, (sophia and scarlett are glitched in the top left, and sophia's not where she belongs in her vineyard) is it just because SVE Map Locations hasnt updated to SVE 1.10?
That depends how you installed SMAPI - if you set your launch options to run SMAPI, you would need to clear those. Or you could run the vanilla chicken Stardew Valley.exe from the game folder.

@inland pasture Yeah, custom locations have to be added to NPC Map Locations special, and there are also some bugs with it, I gather. Not sure about the details though.
I don't know when it started, I tested a handful of different people's NPCs a few months back

I'm pushing up SVE 1.10.1 right now. It'll prevent the crashes players are experiencing in Sophia's cellar, along with several other fixes.
Yes it's only in multiplayer clown, it's when the non-host player marries the custom NPC

I would say that multiplayer was intended from long before release (it was dropped before release), but the game as it came out was not made for it yeah 😄 I originally got the game when it came out for eventual multiplayer, it just kind of moved on by 1.3 (we did try Makeshift a bit though)

Anyone knows if it's possible to get a mod for spawning over and over more worm spots and new forages?
No official word yet, but through the tedious troubleshooting of reinstalling, we are thinking it was a Sabrina (female Sebastien) mod that was crashing us, we will switch to the unofficial SMAPI version now
I'm using I found one that's reset terrain, but it does adds up new forages, only reset the ones that spawned that very same day

you can't know 100% without testing but lots of mods mention how they act in multiplayer and it seems a lot of mods just straight up do work
Say me and a friend both download tractor mod...does this mean that in my world we will both be able to see the tractor once one of us purchases it
@ionic palm I think the screenshots for the mod you're installing are a little misleading is all - that mod is for character sprites. If you want your game to look like theirs, you also need eemie's map recolor and A Toned Down Stardew Valley.

For general information, and for specific mods you need to check the mod page description. For example, Tractor Mod has a multiplayer section that says single-player and multiplayer. In multiplayer mode it must be installed by the main player, and any farmhands that want to use the tractor features. Farmhands who don't have it installed won't have any issues, they just won't see the tractor textures or be able to use its features.

Alright, I've said this was fixed BEFORE, but this time I really found a way to reproduce the bug, and we somehow narrowed it down to the Sebastien Girl Dialogue Mod. This wasn't a SMAPI mod (you had to overwrite your \StardewValley\Content files), so if you are having a problem similar to this, make sure to either only use SMAPI mods, or test EACH non-SMAPI/Content Patcher mod.
It obviously wasn't showing up in my SMAPI logs cuz it wasn't visible to SMAPI. Game is finally working and I've installed the 107ish other mods back and now it works great. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
Yep, we really don't recommend XNB overwriting mods at all, for a lot of reasons. It's why one of the first things we ask in a hard to track down thing is to test without the SMAPI mods and do a reset.

Too bad there isn't a content patcher version of the Sebastian girl (named Sabrina) dialogue fixer mod. There is a CP mod for the portraits, just not the Dialogue (fixing the hims to hers etc) but I suppose I really don't care about Sabrina NEARLY as much as I care about Penny.
Sabrina is part of the general "girl mod" compilation, so it's covered by Invatorzen's Dialogue Changes. I don't think even the CP version has really been kept up to date with latest game versions though, so I'm not surprised the ancient XNB versions caused a crash :\
Yeah, really not interested in genderbending any other villagers, don't know why Sabrina captivated one of my friends like she did.
Don't want to get Invatorzen's if it changes all the male dialogue to female.

It's configurable, so you can turn them off, but the author is still working on 1.4 update (or has disappeared entirely, hehe).

Now I only have 3 (super minor) issues.
- I need NPC Locations for SVE to update.
- I need a mod that pauses time if all players are in time pausing conditions (in a chest/fishing minigame/cutscene, whatever.) (Probably a Sisyphean request).
- A mod to remove jealousy responses (though I intend on dating and getting everyone to 10 hearts before marrying Penny to work around this issue).
(It's still possible for CP versions of mods to be out of date, if they replace the entire file instead of just editing a little bit. If you suspect you are trying out something that isn't working with latest update, check the date on the mod. If it's before November 2019, you might glance at this list https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Migrate_to_Stardew_Valley_1.4#Update_impact and see if any same files are affected and how bad it would need an update.)

Mighty Nein completely replaces lots of vanilla files, and has not been updated for 1.4. I would not use it with the latest game version until it either updates to account for new items, portraits, sprites, etc, or until it edits only what it needs to without replacing whole files.

Hey, I'm having an issue with my game, but I'm playing with dozens of mods so I'm going to ask in here for safety
I've collected multiple Star Shards, but they won't show up or register in my mineral collection tab, which makes me very sad. I've tried a bunch of low-hanging fruit suggested for people in similar situations - grabbing more Star Shards from a Crystalarium, leaving the Shards in my inventory overnight, dropping a Star Shard and picking it up again, etc - and that's done nothing to change the situation.
Are there any other solutions I might have missed? I'm thinking I might go cracking geodes until I'm lucky enough to get another Shard and see if that trips the flag
But at this point I think I would rather just edit my save to manually tick the collection tab if I knew how

I saw that mod before but wasn't interested since it just augmented the jealousy, didn't stop it, but if I can calmly explain they're all just friends, maybe that will be worth it.

I'm having some trouble with updating the 'Stardew Valley Expanded' mod and was wondering if someone could help me with this?
On the website it says this: "If updating to 1.10+, please remove all previous SVE files and follow the updated install guide. Many files were changed and a new cleaner structure was introduced." however, it shows a picture of all the folders that gets installed when you install the mod and when I go into the mod folder
it shows me more folders that contains the words (SVE), (CP), (FTM) etc. etc. and I'm confused if I need to uninstall those as well?

@fallow bobcat This is the right place for modded games, and not support until you reproduce without any :) There are reports about that in vanilla though, I'm just not sure what causes it other than what's on the wiki (stuff from fishing chests or tilling - or spawned from mods for that matter - might not get counted, try all the things you already tried)... I suppose you've already donated one to Gunther, too, even though it's not technically needed?
@inland pasture Yes, it changes the interactions to make it more conversational and not accusational, like "I heard you gave x a gift" "yeah I did the thing!" "that was nice of you :) " and "no I didn't what" "ugh why would lie about something like that", just unique per character.
@quick helm If your config file isn't being generated, the mod might not even be running, so you should post your log https://smapi.io/log to double check.

@livid magnet It's actually good to pull them out of the folder like you were, so that you can see more easily when you have duplicates, like you ran into just now :) SVE packages someone else's mod - Custom Music - which you can download on its own, or that some other music mod may also include. But you can only ever run one copy of the framework at a time, while you can have multiple music packs for it. So it's like if SVE bundled spacecore and Farm Type Manager and TMXLoader and such - they aren't SVE mods themselves, they are just required to make some part of it work, and other people rely on those mods as well.

So being notified there was a duplicate is good, because they wouldn't both run at the same time, anyway and you'd get an error in your log about it.
flashshifter...sve still causes jodi dialogue to skip, like its a blank entry. this happened on the 4th of spring
other problem. profit margins toggle and horseradish. horseradish is 50. silver quality horseradish is also 50
Unless you tag Flash he won't see this, unless he's lurking around. Maybe post it in the subreddit or his nexus page?

the only thing that has error'd is trying to use lookup anything on claire
without the toggle in the config to edit profits, the horseradish is fine
We don't only ask for logs because they have big obvious errors in them though, but because of trying to get more information about the context and saves a lot of questions. "yo there's a bug" is a lot more back and forth :P It sounds like Flash might know what you mean, though!

when updating a mod that says all previous files need to be deleted (such as sve), do i need to keep anything at all (i.e. config files) or does everything in the mod folders related to that mod go to the trash?

When you have cases like folder restructures (the usual reason for needing to remove old files), it's not always even clear where the old config would go in the new layout

Better Garbage cans and Better trains bring out some stuff that makes the experience better

I am trying to get Wren's expanded cellar to work (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5682?tab=description) and I have the prerequisite files installed (DaisyNico's Tilesheets, smapi of course, and content patcher. I see everything in my mods directory. But in game, the cellar is still the vanilla cellar. And suggestions for what I can try to make it appear? To answer your general question, mods may or may not work - technically it's possible, but not everyone is willing to help knowing the source, and no one is even allowed to help if you run into any issues that are directly caused by how you got the game. For example, that is a seriously outdated game version and we can't go helping you look for outdated mods to run with it.
Many mods on the Nexus have old versions available, so you'd have to get old SMAPI and old mods and old etc and just struggle through on your own, vs getting the best of our generally supportive community :)
I gave some general advice, but modding such an old version of the game would be pretty difficult. I have my old copy of 1.2x still somewhere, but it gives me a headache thinking about trying to get things working for it. I suppose I'd just check mod dates and hope, but ug.
Although I'm very thankful to you and to the other's who did/tried to help me but as you said I'll struggle through my own and find a way to the top. Thanks anyways.

If you need help with a specific mod, it's still okay to ask here. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee the answers will be useful, because the mod may have changed a lot over the years. (Changed hot keys, different functionality, or broke some updates ago and no one uses it anymore)

um, just redownload it, that would be the easiest fix

It means there's an error somewhere in the json from editing it, so SMAPI can't read it anymore.

Oh, IF2R replaces the default farm.
(You could technically either edit your save to use standard, or IF2R to use forest, but it's a little bit more invasive than just installing and uninstalling the mod.)

SMAPI, you've just installed. (SMAPI is not a mod, it's mod manager)
You just need to press 'Download'
Nexus is a little confusing
Make sure you press Download and then it's either Slow Download or Free Download. one of them
So I downloaded Content Patcher, it went to my Downloads folder. I have to unzip it into my Mods folder (which I located). How does that happen?

so bwdyworks and teh's fishing mods no longer work and im deleting those; my question is, will deleting those affect my gameplay? like will i still be able to load my stuff even if i delete the polygamy mod?

looking at Haywrites' dialogue mods, they use CP to load an xnb for the dialogue. i assume that makes them incompatible with all other dialogue mods that affect the same characters?

Question, so the SVE comes with custom music folder, and there is a normal custom music for download in nexus, do I get both or what?
just the one that comes with SVE
You can update it, just make sure it overwrites the one already installed by SVE.
(or ignore it if all you're using is sve, since sve would have packaged a newer version of it was required)

If it's occurring on entering/leaving the darkroom from KIM, there's a chance it's a KIM issue (though still need to narrow down from there)
have you installed XNB mods?
PATV was still throwing an error for you too, so I'll trace that one
XNB mods are the ones you install directly in the game files.

@dire fractal...all those updates are for mods where the previous version seems to be working. None have anything to do with the cellar mod so I don't think they could be related. That being said, the cellar mod says it needs updating but the latest update from nexusmods is installed -- it says it is 1.0.2 when I downloaded and installed it before posting here...but the smapi log still comes up saying it is 1.0.1 which is odd...I double checked it is the right version.

Yep, I've got a manifest with 1.0.1 in my copy of 1.0.2. (Vortex pulls the version number from the Nexus info, so it will show 1.0.2 even while thinking there's an update)

@lament junco I can confirm that it's primarily a bug in Karmylla's Immersive Maps. Entering the darkroom triggers the same infinite "Loading..." for me, with or without PATV. I am fixing the minor bug in PATV that the KIM bug triggered, but from the looks of my log the KIM bug might trigger bugs in other mods too

I was hoping I could get some help with a very strange error message I've been getting after updating SVE.
SVE NPC Adventures 1.0.3 because it requires mods which aren't installed (FlashShifter.AndySVE, FlashShifter.MarlonSVE, FlashShifter.MorrisSVE, FlashShifter.OliviaSVE, FlashShifter.SophiaSVE, FlashShifter.SusanSVE, FlashShifter.VictorSVE).
The mod seems to work fine but I have no idea how I could fix errors in these files.

You'd have to edit the manifest.json of NPC Adventures to remove those dependencies

@slate citrus You can try removing those dependencies but whether that will be enough depends on how the mod works. It should be enough to get it to run and experiment, though.
(Basically, SVE used to have individual packs for each NPC, and in the recent update consolidated its folder structure)
(All those NPCs still exist in SVE, but those individual mods don't)

at least as far as I can tell.
SVE should run fine, it's the custom NPCs able to go adventuring pack that's not loading.

Hey @restive zodiac - sorry for barging in, just happened to be friends with @sick nymph. He installed SMAPI and had the correct supporting mods for SVE (although I cannot tell if they’re actually in the mods folder from that screenshot... I don’t use Windows and he says they’re there.) However, the mod wasn’t showing up in game so he took them out (godspeed) and now his game launcher is stalling at play. It won’t open anymore.
Also can’t find his SMAPI log so might be a problem with SMAPI...
If he had the Steam launch options pointed to that SMAPI install, he'll need to clear them before the vanilla game will launch from Steam.

Smapi shouldn't be in the mods folder in the first place and I'm really curious as to why that's the case here

Yeah, that SMAPI install looked messed up.
Console Commands and stuff was there, so the installer must have run at some point, though.
Noticed that, not sure technical-wise why that would be the case but visually looks whack.
Also please, for the love of god, when doing screenshots show the folder path, it's really helpful for figuring out if stuff is in the right folder
A lot of times people have their real names as user names, and don't want to share a folder path that might include it, so that's common enough.

But yeah, depending on what exactly happens when the game doesn't launch, it might just be that Steam is still trying to launch SMAPI but it no longer exists. (Which would be weird if all that was removed was the Mods folder, but...)

To start with, we just need...
- A description of what is currently going on. How are you launching the game? What happens when you try? (e.g. is there an error message ? Can you share a screenshot of it if so?)
- A screenshot of your game folder and Mods folder with the file paths included in them.
If you right click the game in your Steam library, click Properties, then Set Launch Options, is there anything in the box it brings up?
(If so, try clearing out everything from that box and then trying again to launch the game.)
Yeah, somehow all your SMAPI files got into your Mods folder. Just clear out all the loose files from Mods and reinstall SMAPI.
(That's also why your game won't launch.)
