ahh i always wanted to try sve but it seems so overwhelming;;;
i love SVE, very seamless integration. the only thing to be mindful of (especially if you have a lot of mods) is adding mods that change any locations; they will likely conflict. other than that it's great. and i currently am running it with over 220+ mods lol

There's a lot of non-obvious conflicts as well. I personally prefer the individual expansions myself - stuff like Immersive Shane, Karm's maps, etc
immersive shane seems like its gonna be so good
i went kinda nuts downloading almost 50 mods to start with but most of it is aesthetic, like clothes and stuff
Immersive Shane and Mal's Seb are A+
yeh i've tried smaller mods over the years. but when SVE came out i started fresh with new mods setup and it does make the game feel new. and FlashShifter (author) is very prolific in adding new features

XNBs don't provide logging, they break super easily, and are very very easy to goof up installing

yee i heard they were a little sus, but there wasnt a good alternative to the slime mod and i didnt know how to do it myself. i figured if i just kept the original file safe elsewhere it would be ok if it gets buggy

bc afaik if you use one food with a particular buff and then use another food with a different set of buffs the first food's buffs are nullified right?

If you are using IF2R, the author might have disabled compatibility with recolors again
(by using custom tilesheets instead of the vanilla provided ones)

Hi! I've uninstalled & reinstalled things and it still happens- I have an issue with Marlon's character stuff (presents not being marked, relationship stuck at 4 hearts, and his character sheet picture "jitters" and turns into a white box.) I've uninstalled & reinstalled sve, portraiture, & romanceable rasmodius, but he's still buggy. Could anyone help?

i'm just scratching my head tbh bc the deep woods mod only suggests that it's a late game dungeon, not one that requires other mods to get through but i'm kind of wondering if maybe it is in fact a mod that needs other mods to get through
but by the time you get to those levels some mobs there start doing 60+ damage with each hit lsdkjfsdfd

oh by the way something i've been wondering-- are mods supposed to be able to be installed into an existing game? does it depend on the mod?
i'm assuming SVE is one you have to install before you start the game bc when i tried it with an existing game with a friend some areas in the town were inaccessible due to unfortunately placed foliage...
but maybe there's just something i'm missing?
@bright ocean Just thought I'd let you know, that coordinates thing in my UI...was from NPC Map Locations, which has a debug mode. If you turn off the debug mode, the coordinates go away. Good tool though π
It depends on the mod, most things are fine to install mid save but maps retain their initial debris spawn placement so you have to reset it. There's a section in the install guide for SVE for help installing on an existing save, but a new save is recommended yeah.

Does the SMAPI terminal run in the background when you start your game? If you're on Windows, you have to set your launch options in Steam to tell it to start SMAPI instead of the vanilla game, or else run the pufferchick StardewModdingAPI.exe from the game folder.

@proud badger I finally managed to do some more testing using strawberry's mods, and it does look like the town curse. One of the things that would have made testing a pain is that it doesn't seem to happen on the first day of loading/creating a save, only after sleeping once.
Any time I made a change to the Mods folder, I tested by loading a save, changing the day to 2 and sleeping, warping to 13 20 of Joja Mart, changing the time to 1300, then trotting out to shadow Pam on her way while keeping a respectful distance to superstitiously avoid so much as breathing on her route even though it was already calculated, check if she voidwalks, warp to farmhouse, sleep, repeat, warp to farmhouse, sleep, repeat.
It looked like it was any edit to the town, even if those edits weren't applied yet. (but it would stil count as an edit in this setup since TMXL shows one for each potential merge for whatever reason). So if I commented out only the one that is active, it still happened, but if I commented out all of them, it didn't. Removing just the single pack, no voidwalking, removing all mods except said pack and console commands, still voidwalking. NPCs are insane.
It's still not exactly your fault/problem, since it's possible to happen even in vanilla. (or used to be; I haven't seen one in awhile, admittedly)

Hey yall, I'm new here but I was wondering if I could get some help getting SMAPI to work. I used it on my computer before I wiped it clean, but now I can't seem to get it to install.
When I try to install it with install.bat file I get this error.

You should try redownloading, yes, with Defender disabled. And try installing with it off as well

@ruby geode looks like no one answered you earlier, sorry if someone did--i don't see any mods that would obviously be the culprit for that, but could you try resetting your content files and see if that does anything? if you go to the museum with it in your inventory, does it allow you to donate it again?

it's possible you have something editing the springobjects tilesheet (where neptunite's sprite would be) that's overriding it somehow, and/or that something got wonky with Json Assets IDs

Awesome, so I changed the backup files to the same drive and steam is on, I must of messed up when saving that the first time. Then I ran the StardewModdingAPI as admin and it worked. Thanks for the help yall!
hey im a farmhand on a stardew valley expanded save. I cant seem to see the new npcs during festivals and i have problems with sophie on the npcs map locations
That's a known thing with the festival spots at the moment. I think when CP is updated to be able to handle them, it's going to try that method instead.

Hey, so, I've heard a Stardew update is in the works, and since I only just got everything working and don't want it all to break again(!), was wondering - on Steam there isn't any option to completely disable updates, the closest is like "update on game startup" - so will launching Stardew via SMAPI trigger that update trigger Steam's update, or am I safe?
The next stardew update is quite a while away from the looks of it

You can, of course, make a copy of your game folder and place it elsewhere and run it with no issues as well

well last update came out in november, and i think the one before that was august of 18, so we got a while yet before the next major update
Remove the SMAPI installer folder, it doesn't go in Mods (I recommend downloading all mods to a separate folder and unzipping there). You are also missing the main portions of SVE
And Custom NPC Fixes
And Custom Music too

you need to take all the folders out of the SVE zip and put them in your mods folder
(the name is a relic from when it was an ALL mod)

Tells you right there the folders the duplicates are in. You also aren't installing correctly, make sure to read the getting started guide π You should never have all of those numbers trailing behind the mod name - if you do, you haven't installed correctly
So to stop the mods from trailing does the mod need to be at the very top
it means you need to open the zip folder and take the mod folder out of the zip

Is the cellar property that goes with Farmhouse Redone not working? I set the tile I want to appear on in my custom farmhouse map, but I actually appear in the old spot, which is not inside the map part and I get stuck.

There are lots! Mods that make things pretty or at least different colored, mods that add new crops and recipes, mods that uh let you jump over fences :P

drag them out of the folder into "Mods", if you want to start over then remove those, grab them again and then use "extract here" and then copy and paste to the mod folder
(For getting mods out of folders, it helps to unzip your mods somewhere other than your Mods folder, and then copy the folders you want in after. That way you don't have them inside of multiple folders, which can still work but makes it hard to know when there is more than one copy per mod, if that makes any sense.)
(ignore the diff names, I just grabbed from my downloading folder and the actual Mods folder)
(It's also a pain to update, since they might not merge properly.)

So don't copy the folder but just all the copy within it

its because the steam api doesnt like smapi for whatever reason
It's possible to disable the SMAPI console for non-Windows users, but it has some pretty heavy drawbacks that make it not usually worth it.

Well, you can temporarily work around it by tossing the summer outdoors xnb (copy, not move) into the Content folder.

It's a game error and not a framework error, and it looks like the same error someone had a few days ago under the same circumstances, stuff is fine until the town theater map merges. It's just weird because none of the parent frameworks should be checking the Content folder for tilesheets at all

@lapis void resetting my files didn't help, unfortunately! I did have an XNB mod that I swapped for a CP one (and now I have a bunch of bald head options but that should be fine lol). it doesn't allow me to donate it again, it says I don't have anything to donate to the museum in my inventory. I'm not sure how/where to check if my springobjects tilesheet is wonky but I could maybe do that?
is neptunite visible when you get it from geodes/other places? if so then it's probably not the tilesheet. i'm not sure what the conditions are for it showing in the collections tab but i know it can sometimes be weirdly specific--can you remember where you got the one you donated, like from a geode or another source?
to check the tilesheet though, you would do a patch export--patch export Maps/springobjects in your console @ruby geode
(and follow up with a patch summary)

I edited my save file to remove it from the museum, and while it defaults the text back to 'Gunther can tell you more' and lets me donate it again, it's still greyed out in my collections, should I just wait for it to drop from a geode?

Another question about mods real fast: For Immersive Farms and Farm Extended, how do I access those maps from the creation of a new character? Do they just replace the regular farm? Or do I need to choose them from the menu?

The mod that allows you to add new farm types has been fairly glitchy since prior to 1.4 and still doesn't have all of the bugs ironed out. So for the moment, you'll want to use CP map replacers, not MTN packs that add new farm types. Different map mods replace different farm types, so make sure to read the description

the first thing i would do is update SMAPI, you're pretty far behind. make sure you and anyone else playing on your multiplayer farm is on the current version

PyTK and TMXLoader are also several versions behind, and i believe climates of ferngill's update there is a bug fix
We had it completely up to date when it crashed first. I figured it was the update that caused the error, so we rolled back and received the same error.
does she have the exact same mod loadout that you do? a log from her would be very helpful for diagnosing it
Yes. I sent it to her via a zip file.
She only added in an inventory cheat beyond that that had not cause issues in the past.

it definitely seems like it's crashing because of the custom wedding--i actually have no idea if custom NPC weddings are broken in MP, i've never tried to marry one, but i know that farmhands can't see custom NPCs at festivals so that may be related
try updating all of your mods (especially those frameworks) and PyTK, and SMAPI again--if it still crashes with everything up to date, post your log on the SVE bug reports tab
I married Victor with now issues. Here's the thing. They never have been able to see the custom NPCs during events, or on the maps. :\

I received a log saying my config.json for seasonal villagers outfit is denied, so I assumed I just have to re-download them and put it back to the mod file.
you can just delete the config, it will generate again when you run the game
it might also just not work for a spell while the devs of the mod update it to work with the new SMAPI
Aha, it's fixed. I just had the old file for the seasonal villagers outfit. I had to re-download them since the latest update they rewrite the config.json file but thank you for the help <3

SMAPI comes bundled with a mod called Console Commands, that adds various commands and lets you use the game's built-in debug commands. Moo was suggesting you type debug customize in the SMAPI console to bring up the character creation menu again in-game.

Technically it's possible to do it without, but it involves overwriting the game files, which have so many drawbacks and big warning signs on it that we can't recommend it at all.

Reset Terrain Features (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/4715) is a mod that allows you to reset, clear, or generate everything that spawns on a map via an in-game menu. This is especially useful when changing maps mid-save, as the debris will still use the old layout (causing things like trees in the water or bushes blocking exits) until reset.

I think that the SMAPI versions are really a lot easier to install, if that helps. When you install SMAPI, it creates a Mods folder in your game folder, and all the mods go in there as folders. When you overwrite game files, it's really easy to overwrite the wrong ones to comic or tragic effect.

Yep, if you "browse local files" from Steam it will take you to your game folder, which is where SMAPI would make the Mods folder.

Some mods let you edit key bindings, which are controller/keyboard/mouse buttons which do something in-game. This page explains how to configure them.

No, it's mostly for custom items PyTK can add
Basically it does a thing to the save seralizer to make its custom item handling work, so if you remove PyTK you will get a lot of chests and mills and so on with incredibly long names.
(your vanilla items and any JA items will be fine but anything that needed PyTK becomes something else with an incredibly long name)

See, I don't know my Admin Username or Password, nor can I find out for long and extensive reasons, so I couldn't install it using a .pkg if I tried. Note: .pkg's are on more than just iOS. Now using a .pkg is very similar to using a installer on Window's. However, most people put their apps on ".dmg's" like Discord, Steam, and a lot of people.
Now these are easier for someone in my circumstance. Because I can just click it, take the app OUT.
Then call it a day~

@ancient gulch It could be possible to install homebrew without admin rights given some install script surgery and then use that to install maybe? There might be admin bombs on the road somewhere still but it could happen

Hey, so I was trying to run the game with SAMPI, and it keeps crashing on me. Here's the crash log I keep getting:

(last release for 1.3 was 2.11.3)
yeah, and content patcher also won't work with an older game/SMAPI version because 1.12 requires a more recent version of SMAPI--you'd need to find an older version of that as well if you're trying to run 1.3

I have macbook and SMAPI is working just fine
macOS 10.12 is unsupported by Apple with patches and security updates. The supported versions are 10.13, 10.14, and 10.15.
@quiet night I also have a Mac, two of 'em, and SMAPI works fine for me too.
I work in the IT Department at a fairly large university and I cringe every time I see a Mac running an unsupported version of macOS.
I spent on hour over on reddit troubleshooting why someone's mods wouldn't load only to find out they were using a pirated version of the game.

So... it's been awhile and updated most of my mods and wondered if i could still make a backup vanilla version of the modded games.

Alright, i'v had a saved game since the very beginning of Stardew and wanted to save a backup of it if i did something big mod wise.
I also recommend grabbing Advanced Save Backup in addition to the bundled Save Backup

To be higher or lower? Higher no, lower you can use shift click or right click to get smaller stacks (Stack Split X might work too)
accidently click 999 stardrops and it auto applies all of them 1 by 1 - no way to cancel - had to alt+ctl+del the game and reload
some items are 1 stack only, but all the others are 999
im guessing its sorted by stackable and non-stackable
