Just to clarify why I say it isn't possible - you're stating SMAPI is somehow pulling the old portraits into the game despite them not being there i.e. you deleted them and replaced with that mod's
it's not possible to put something in the game that doesn't exist
Honestly if it doesn't work this time I have to assume you're replacing the portraits in a diff mod folder

Really has to do with the number of expansions you've got. If you're trying to run RSV + SVE + ES....well, save setup takes a very long time

Exept the difference is that in a save, it crashes the game without freezing.

Does anyone have dialogue mods? Wondering if getting dialogue extended will mess things up with SVE and Ridge installed.
The way dialogue mods work is they all patch stuff, and if two compete....

When two mods both edit dialogue or images, whichever mod loads last "wins" and is the one you see in the game. So if Dialogue Mod A edits X, Y, and Z, and Dialogue Mod B only edits Z, and you have both, it'll be Dialogue Mod A on X and Y, and Dialogue Mod B on Z, since B is after A

You'd be surprised! Canon friendly doesn't really conflict too much with others
There's been like... one out of character dialogue in the six years on my current file, and that was thanks to Immersive Sandy I think

hello ive got a question, im currenty is on smapi 1.16 and was planning to update. i have a question regarding PPJA's mods, is it working with smapi 1.18? if so will i have to download the latest version on nexus mod or elsewhere or do the opposite (as to not update it from PPJA's version 1.4.5) .
i had a bunch of headache trying to update last time due to no clear instructions as the author retired, so if anybody have updated to latest smapi & ppja mods installed have any advice it would be welcomed.

The latest released version of PPJA (Project Populate Json Assets, a popular mod) is a conversion from JA to DGA, but it has some bugs in it, and the mod author has retired. Sticking with the older JA version is probably your best option.
You can download the JA version from the Old Files section on Nexus, or by downloading the latest versions of the standalone components instead of the megapack (except for Farmer to Florist, where you would need to look under Old Files in the standalone version).

Alright, well, up front, this should not have been possible at all. I'm honestly considering telling atra about this huge mod mismatch that somehow managed to not suffer an extremely painful crash just by connecting because that is very much not supposed to happen.
But if it helps? It crashed doing a special order

But given the extreme mod mismatch, that might just be a symptom
(i.e. the special order might have been connected to deep woods, and then you're super screwed)

Fixed the crashing! It was a mod called Solid Foundations. Sadly I liked the mods that use it but I prefer having my save. Thank you for your help and explaining things Atra and Lyoko!!

Hmmm.... still a mismatch of two. And given Automate's a Pathos mod, either you found an obscure bug or the C# mod difference is at least somewhat affecting it

Allow Beach Sprinklers and Better Artisan Good Icons look to be the different C# mods, though I'm checking to see if there's more differences just in case
Someone else will have to educate me on BAGI and if it can be one player only (probably not) but the beach sprinklers definitely needs to be all or none

Hey idk if this could be a mod issue or just the game but is there any way I can change the pregnancy % chance? I have free love & pregnancy and birth events mod. It’s been more than 14+ days (2 months in game) with no ask yet.

I went to switch from Walk of Life and it's ilk over to MARGO as well as add some new mods, I started a new save but after 6-7 days. Everytime I boot the game it loads in, the screen stays dark, the camera wont follow the player anymore, and the same error loops forever.

The issue SEEMS to go away when I disable MARGO, but I can't find ANY indicator MARGO is the actual problem beside that behaviour.

Would changing the mods cause the grub RNG to change? Is that why it seems to work when I turn off MARGO. False positive?

i wanna start a new game with the Expanded mod, but im kinda worried it might corrupt my first games save file, is there a safe way to get it on one save file only or something?
like the mod page does recommend using a new save file for it
normally you would want to make a whole new save once you add or remove major mods. you can also go to your stardew valley folder and copy your "save backups" folder outside of your stardew folder, just incase you want to revert everything back

So my mods are messed up half of them won’t work because “Farm Type Manager “ is not installed even though it is and in my mods folder

Mods do not affect your other files unless you load them with mods. It is perfectly safe to boot the game with SMAPI without loading your save file

if you don't open a save while launching mods it is not affected by the mods
there are some mods that edit the save serilizer like pytk or tmxl, so saves that uses that mods are recommended to not to run without the said mods

as for the "is it okay to run SVE on a vanilla game" question yes it is okay if you know how to reset the terrain bc your farm map will get messed up, and if you are willing to not go vanilla on that save again. Also it is just simply recommended bc some added characters storylines works better on a new save imo
If you use on existing save, two things happen. #1, map gets altered by mods, so terrain features look out of place. #2, saving means that save file is locked to mods forever even if you played vanilla on it for a while

Is my computer just finally showing its age or is there something else wrong? I'm occasionally getting up to 30-40% CPU when loading into areas, it'll usually hover around there for a minute or two before going back to normal.

I've run days with profiler multiple times and it has done nothing to narrow down what's causing my lag. Sorry if I sound a bit snappy about it, I'm honestly a bit tired of hearing it. I should probably just keep it installed permanently at this point.

It's really hard to track down performance issues, especially if you're not using some sort of profiling tool
Either VS/Rider profiling tools or Profiler
If you'd like you can drop a log that has profiler installed into chat and see if anyone else has any ideas

Custom Ore Nodes does reload a lot of stuff on map transitions but it doesn't seem to be taking that long in your save
It is actually mostly on map transition, and a few minutes after map transitions.

Reset Terrain Features (https://smapi.io/mods/#Reset_Terrain_Features) is a mod that lets you reset, clear, or generate everything that spawns on a map using an in-game menu. That's especially useful when changing maps mid-save, as the debris will otherwise use the old layout (causing things like trees in the water or bushes blocking exits).
you're going to need to reset the bush because when you add it to an existing file bushes aren't automatically removed, so they can stay in the way

There are many reasons for it not working. Maybe you're not booting SMAPI. Maybe it's the wrong mod folder. Maybe you're missing a dependency

If you're using Steam or GOG on Windows, you will need to set your launch options in order for Steam/GOG to automatically launch with SMAPI. There are some instances where you will need to use the compatibility version of the game. Please be aware that SMAPI/game mods are not compatible with this version.
On Steam: In your library, right-click Stardew Valley and select Properties... > Betas > then "compatibility" under the dropdown.
On GOG: From the game's page, click the settings icon > Manage installation > Configure... > then "compatibility" under the Beta channels dropdown.

Disabling Custom Ore Nodes seemed to help somewhat, but my game still doesn't appreciate the rain. I've found a temporary work-around, but it would need a script to work full-time: Disabling a couple threads for the game in task manager.
Nevermind, I'm still sometimes spiking to 30~40% CPU usage and still getting lag spikes. Will upload another log at the end of this day (do I need to close game to get the log to update?)

Hopefully trees too because some of them drive me bonkers and it's tiring chopping them down constantly
If it's just the visibility that's annoying you, chop the tree but NOT the stump. If the stump is there, the tree cannot regrow. As a bonus, it can still produce seeds if it's on the farm.

You need to install Grandpa's farm in order to merge those or IF2R

You have multiple farm type manager folders.
Delete the one that is farm type manager with a bunch of numbers after it in your mods folder.

SpriteMaster (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/4922) is a mod that resamples the game's graphics to be smoother and improves performance.
You can disable resampling to stop the graphical changes, but regardless of resampling or not it'll go faster

okay so I've downloaded Smapi and I downloaded the Tractor mod, but I have no Idea how to get the Tractor mod to work! I'm like totally new to mods LOL!! and I'm on a Mac
first, did you read the mod description?
Buy the tractor garage (with included tractor) from Robin and wait until she's done building it. Then just get on the tractor, choose a tool or seeds or fertilizer, and drive. You can also press backspace (configurable) to summon the tractor to your current position.
second, is it loading in alright?
i'm not sure how to add the mod to my game entirely :)

First, yes you will. Error Handler will be able to remove PyTK from other saves too. Second, you're missing custom furniture items - your log does not load any of the Custom Furniture packs that your friend has, so when you go to whatever area you're supposed to be in, the game attempts to draw something that, on your end, does not exist. This is aside from Custom Furniture, even on unofficial update, being wonky in Multiplayer

And if you had SMAPI saves previously, it might have a save backups folder with files in it
But your current file is corrupt and unloadable.
(By the way, swap out with old files means retitle both the file_old and SaveGameInfo_old to be without the _old portions.)

I had 2 questions about multiplayer and modding I wasn't able to find an answer to with the troubleshooting guide

1 friend is hosting a game on smapi which I have been connecting to with vanilla. I recently installed smapi and I can see her farm in my server list, but my farmer does not appear. Is it possible to install smapi midway through a save as a non host or is it not recognizing me because I'm no longer running the same exe?
It happens sometimes. Generally you're supposed to have the same SteamID
.......but sometimes, it gives you a separate one through SMAPI
Interesting, is there a way to get it to recognize my old steamid? I swapped back to my vanilla exe and farmer was still there, no issues with the saves

Could someone look this over and see why my game crashed? I can usually play for a few days, but at some point recently my game started to crash when I go to bed sometimes, and I don't think I have that many mods compared to more seasoned players. I'd like to know what the issue is and what I can do to prevent it. Anything helps!

If you can convert or just not care about your "bathroom furniture" and Thunder and Frog Sounds, PyTK's removal won't hurt you really

Bathroom Furniture hasn't worked in forever, unfortunately. But I do need the Thunder and Frog Sounds to stay the way they are, my sensitive ears cannot take the canon thunder sounds.
But yeah, I'll update and change around some mods and let you all know how it goes later on 👍

The other question I had was about when I'm hosting. I wanted to host with smapi to add some QOL adjustments like pausing time. Existing farm. My friends joining are using vanilla because they dooon't want to install any mods. I think I chose a list of mods that won't cause crashes, but the people who were playing with me can't connect

Sorry, I don't know what that means. 😅 . The descriptions for both the specific mods and the mod page said for global changes there shouldn't be issues as long as host player has them. I've also been connecting to a SMAPI server while I was vanilla that had a mod for unlimited multiplayers and it never had issues. I feel like there has to be a way to get it working if I could just troubleshoot
And ZaneYork will get spammed just as much for the new one as the old one

If only we could insure people would read pins, I'd ask the mods to make a pinned post about the Android SMAPI, but at present we're just gonna have to prepare for the deluge of people asking. Or making new tickets.
I never say "this will work in MP", I either say "I tested it in Mp" or "I didn't test in MP and it might or might not work"

So it's almost definitely a mod vs vanilla incompatibility not potentially the same steam ID issue that prevented me from connecting on the other server

If you remove mods and it works, then it's not a steam ID thing
I've not had problems using STEAM across both Linux and Windows
If you remove mods until you're left with the 3 basic smapi mods (Error Handler, Console Commands, and Save Backup) and it does not work, it's probably a connection issue
Usually the connection works, but if your internet is shitty or it's a bad luck day occasionally it just fails for no reason
Just for the record, Atra, we have had a previous user with the Steam ID issue.
For some reason, SMAPI doesn't use the same one on a few, rare, occasions, from what I can tell.
Unknown as to why.
Everything seems okay so far, but I'm getting this issue now. Obviously it isn't a problem right now, but I want to know if there's anything I can do to keep these from being a problem in the future. (Apologies for not using the SMAPI log uploader, but I don't think it's necessary for such a small and specific bit of code.)

MARGO and SpaceCore should absolutely not be mismatched, out of all the mods out there those are the two worst possibly
MARGO will hard crash the game iirc if it's mismatched with its predecessor

Does anybody know how to reset the shipment box? I basically didnt realize when adding the SVE mods that it didnt include the farm improved maps, so I added them in after playing a save for over 10hrs. I was able to get it to work by basically getting rid of any crops or tilled soil. But the shipment box isnt spawning in its place.

I have a very advanced game progress. If I add mods now, nothing will be deleted or lost, right? The mods would just be added to that game without any issues? (would be visual mods only)

I can also tell you stardew is mostly single threaded so core count is irrelevant
But personally I would not buy a cheap tablet and expect much

hiii, my Hugs and Kisses mod ain't working, tho the isn't any message showing anything wrong at SMAPI, anyone had the same problem and knows how to fix it?
either they are some kind of portrait replacements files for SVE that are supposed to overwrite the SVE files, or they are corrupted SVE mod folders (in which case a reinstall of them should solve it)
(the top folders that begin with [CP] and [STF] should have manifest.json files for smapi to detect them as mods)
