the argument of "realistically faces usually aren’t perfectly symmetrical" doesnt hold up here cause facial symmetry, unless theres some physical deformity, has to do with the shape, and size of the head and features, not their position. because of the way the eye sockets are placed in the skull you will never see the average person with one eye lower or higher than the next

hey! It turned out that aseprite doesn't do well animating images with transparent backgrounds. So I filled in the empty space with a neutral colour and was able to preview my animation

if you still want to include the grey you could use it as streaks or highlights or even grey tips

this is the character! I'm not sure if it's seen as rude to make a comparison but the first thing i thought, especially since one piece is set in a world of pirates v marines/ navy, is that your character reminds me of what fujitora would look like if he was a pirate instead of a marine!

Yeah its a lil rude to me to make comparisons like that, especially when it's the very first thing you mention. I don't really see how they're similar either except for both being older men with beards and kinda hooked noses. They're not even the same race either. My character is a older black/greek man.

Its not really something I appreciate though, cause I work very hard on my characters and have had this one since 2009. So idk just makes me feel pretty shitty

I think when they say, "oh this OC reminds me of this character", the unspoken part of that is, "I'm a fan of the character I compared your OC to, which means I like your OC as well".

Not saying that we shouldn't still encourage people to come up with better ways to compliment OCs; I'm just trying to figure out specifically what these well meaning comparison compliments are saying.

Maybe "comparison" isn't even the best word, and "parallelism" would better describe what they are doing and has a somewhat better connotative effect.

People comparing oc almost always have good intentions and are trying to say a nice thing. however the focus is more often on the fact that the oc is being compared rather than the compliment. It makes it not really feel like a compliment at all... I feel like you could find a good way to type your intent althought saying something like "wow pretty!" is a lot easier and clearer.

how to draw depends on just ow you work best. some use boxes balls and pipe, some might make a rudimentary stick skeleton and draw the muscle groups on it.
the boxes is I guess a more traditional thing; it might help more if you first practice drawing simple shapes from observation. cans, other objects, it's tedious but it helps get you used to understanding those shapes in 3d space; then it might do more for you when you build bodies out of those basic forms.

rl naked people are hard to come by sometimes for studying ( - 3-) ofc it's always good to check things in the mirror.
there might well be life-drawing workshops available nearby that you could attend, now and then, if you want to try a bit of formal education

I don’t think I’d be comfortable using irl naked people 😂 me, myself, a mirror, and muscle diagrams are enough

But I’m skinny so… Posing in a mirror might help be understand the proportions and overall look, but if I wanna add muscle mass, that’s gonna be something I’ll have to use references for

pictures never work too well for me, I have a lot of trouble making the leap from an image to what it actually means in space, a problem since I'm rarely directly copying a pose.
there's art models, but you pay so much for poseable 'art-grade' figures that're actually worth a damn or that even function as advertised. I've been told it's better to go for action figures instead to keep the price down. never found one I liked though.

If you're still looking for input, I think an in between shade between the shading on the nose/mouth and the shading on the eyes/cheeks would help. Either way, looks great. I do realism drawing and pixel art and I can't combine them like that, so I'm v impressed

idk if y'all have read Long Exposure by Marsoids but I found out that there are specific songs for some of the characters/chapters and I'm living

When I (binge) read the entire thing in one sitting, I listened to the album "Sawayama" by Rina Sawayama on loop, so I associated some of the characters/chapters with those songs

So, I'm in a class where we've been looking at games from a more analytical point, and our final project is to pick a game, and find a meaning behind some part of it to write about in an essay.
I'm very confident that Stardew Valley has some part of it that would work really well for the essay, but it's been a while since I played, and all of my memories of playing I was only thinking about the actual gameplay that went on, and never put any brain power towards looking at things that happened in the game any more than just thinking about how I would enjoy the game more with this new thing.
I only have to write out what is essentially a proposal for the essay, where I need to essentially describe what my overall plan with the essay is, and the main parts of it that anyone would be able to help me with are these points.

o What are you going to prove to your reader?
o What will you help your reader to see or understand that they might not without your essay?
Briefly explain why you think this essay will be interesting to your reader. For example: 
o Are you going to change our mind about something?
o Reveal an idea in a game (or other text) that would surprise the average reader? 
o Comment on an important current issue?```
So the reason I'm asking for help is because I want to be able to look back at my memories of playing, and be able to see things that I could analyze and talk about in the essay. I'm not asking for help in writing the essay itself, just coming up with the idea for what I can take from playing Stardew Valley and analyze to connect it to some central idea that I write about.

The most "philosophical" message I recognized in Stardew Valley actually appears right at the beginning of the game.

The farmer (you) works in a corporate job in an industrialized society. They don't see the fruits of their work, neither if it actually benefits them or society. They can't identify themself with their work, since it doesn't give them fulfilment. Basically it's the phenomenon of the alienation of the worker with their work, which became a huge problem once the industrial revolution (in the real world) happened. This is written down my Marx, as far as I remember. You should look it up yourself, since it may have been another person.

When the person leaves this type of work to continue life as a farmer, they finally flourish. They can see the direct accomplishments of their work, while also performing a important aspect of providing for the community. Their products are a basic human need: Food.
At the same time, they finally see themselves as part of a community and connect with the people of pelican town.
All of this leads to an exponential growth of happiness and cures their "burnout".

Some of my thoughts regarding your essay.

that is definitely the most obvious thing to go with, but there is one thing that i would like to have if i go with that.
i want to be able to point to different parts of the game that actually show and connect back to that central idea that the PC moved there for the fulfilment.
how would i show that the gameplay elements all connect back to that idea without just describing the game mechanics and say "that's the point of the game" because i feel like that would be somewhat shallow writing.

the one thing that i can think of that would probably be able to connect back to the reason you moved in the first place, was to include something about your grandfather's spirit judging all youve done after 3 years, but i personally never got to that point so i dont really know what actually happens at that point in the game and if he says something about that idea of personal fulfilment

Hm, since one of the points of the game is what I described, I would actually describe the game mechanics in the context of this idea and explain why they may have been implemented.
I don't think it has to be shallow. If you are good in writing, it can definitely be creative and thought out.

Maybe, you can also describe multiple situations, where the pc helped the community (e.g the house for pam, the gifts etc. etc.)

I would look that cutscene up in the wiki. Or maybe it's in a video.

Maybe you can also write about the escapism and therapeutical aspects of the game for the player, using the things I mentioned as context and applying it to our current time.
That would be very interesting to read about.

Thus it should be thought provoking, as well as giving the reader another perspective on modern work and how it influences our nature"
