Also if you're thinking about where to put shadows, think planes; think about the surfaces of the object you're drawing and how light will reflect on them

Every time you go darker, you shift one position from 1-3

and hue shift closer to purple

(a little closer - but it depends on your artstyle)

and don't shade with black unless you're going for a comic-like style

Details and texturing comes later and you ideally should lay out most of your drawing before you start working on the details

Start big, work down to the small parts

But yeah, like I said, if you're doing a similar style to jev's, 1) no "obvious" airbrush shadowing and 2) using a hue shifted, slightly more saturated and darker colour for your shadows instead of black

On using the airbrush, I do it slightly with a BIG brush size so that it creates a gradient instead of... uh.. shadow.

I try to prevent my style looking like other peoples. It took me a while to build up what I can do today and it's still ever evolving (every 2 years).

and when I mean evolving I mean like, it's changing at a rapid rate so much that the styles and improvements have went so off course from each other it's hard to tell that if I drew them 10 years ago or 2 years ago.

I think my change in medium too, using a computer art tablet over an iPad, has something to do with it as well...
