For my last project I used like 100 layers I think (in total)

sometimes if i wanna make a line on my lineart layer thats touching other stuff i make a new layer
draw that one line
then merge it
and thats about it
how do you people get to that number of layers.......
i just cant see that ever happening

as for layers, sketch layer might be as many as 10, but i merge them before i finish, lineart is many layers too; but in the end i merge
then when i have a merged line and sketch layer i do colors with a seperate layer and multiple clipping masks per one for shading and then highlights. may merge some of those but not usually

so many layers, but they get merged so its manageable

Start out with free programs like Ibis Paint X or medibang paint pro, and later on a good one to invest in is Clip studio paint

Procreate, procreate procreate. The best paid digital art program for the iPad. Some people do like clip studio for the iPad as well, especially if they are going from a computer hooked tablet, but I forever stand by procreate.
Especially if you have some extra cash afterwards to buy a couple of brush packs, they change everything.

problem with procreate is depending on your device it limits you to less layers. Thats why i don't recommend it personally.
I don't know everyone's device and i don't want to unintentionally subject them to a limitation of like 4 layers

If you use a huge canvas then yes, but if it’s a normal sized canvas you can get 200-400 layers
For less powerful devices it’d more be like 100-170 probably
If... you need more than that then I don’t know what to say, the limitations are there so the app doesn’t crash or lag.
I’d definitely say if you’re a beginning artist or someone who does drawing as a hobby, try procreate first, try some custom brushes, work your way up and then try the clip trial if you’re really interested, if you can afford the subscription and you enjoy it much more than procreate then go for it. If you’re a professional artist who needs something stable right this second and can’t really test something out for a period of time or just really don’t like the look of procreate, try the clip trial first. No harm in that, if you don’t like it try procreate or another art app if you want

Depends on what your idea of normal sized canvas is. Someone i knew had a fairly small canvas, maybe 1000x1000, and had problems with layer limititations.

I use a 2000 by 1000 canvas on the average ( screen sized ) and I get 200 layers easily, and if I do 2000 by 2000 I get 163
If it was an older iPad mini then, yes, don’t expect to be able to do anything crazy with the layers at that size.

not necessarily, programs like medibang and ibis paint are fairly lightweight on your device despite having a decent number of features. as someone with a bad device trying to do art i can personally testify to that.

hello artistically inclined individuals! I am a modder working on putting together a "story progression" mod that, among other things, involves aging up toddlers to an actual, NPC-like child stage. I'm a very proficient programmer, but alas I do not have really any pixel art talent at all.
the mod is specifically aimed at being compatible with editing via Content Patcher, so that creators have more control over how/when their art is used. but I would like to include a couple default sprites/portraits so that the mod works "out of the box." you would of course be credited, and I am even willing to pay a small amount of real dollars for your time!

With the blue junimo, the shadow of the horizontal curve maybe needs to be a bit more curved. It looks a bit too straight, I think. So the junimo doesn't look as round as it could be.
