the consequence if you're making a portrait that's too different from the sprite, you might be forced to make the sprite in order to match with the custom portrait
as for me, that's why I prefer to match the portraits I've drawn with vanilla sprites or any modded sprites that's already completed (for example : poltergeister's, SVO)

yup, i am making it as mods, Back then for me, smapi mod creating is too much for me, sinc ei have 0 coding knowledge, so I simply use XNB's extractor, unpack the files , draw, repack and replace whole. but ofcourse it clashes with with others mods
so players wont be able to use mods while using my stuff at all
thats why Im learning the few things I can. so everyone can enjoy it ^^ (also doing this as instagram acc {self promotion lol})

I reaaally like the Basic Size Opacity brush in Krita. There are some fancy brushes, too, which have some nice effects, but the basic stuff is really good when you give it a go.

I literally just got my new screen tablet (the one nae recommended thank u so much nae) up and running today from working with just a standard! It's a bit of a weird shift (also i gotta like, change my physical setup) but it's not too crazy
Weirdest thing is reminding myself to look at the tablet and not the computer bc habits

You can set it up in a way that lets your screen tablet run like a regular tablet so you can keep looking at the work on the computer screen
It just depends on how you configure the monitor to the tablet
I do like having it just as a new screen to work on tho bc it makes my back and forth between traditional and digital feel a little smoother

i like the soft colors a lot, i think the way you've done it is really nice! if you want to avoid colors bleeding onto other parts like with the red and brown where the branch part starts, you could make a mask for where the red should go? but tbh i think it looks fine as is

I typically do lineart for each character on a separate layer. Once it's done, merge it all to a single lineart layer. Then each color gets its own layer, and I'll do an additional layer for shadows/highlights.
