I would definitely add paths to all buildings. Maybe paths to the different entries to the farm too.
Also, I recommend the use of seasonal decorations.

Make different zones for your coop and barn, as well as adding grass and trees along the paths.

Get on it! Use the planner to set up a plan for the whole farm and then just start doing it. Once the farm gets looking good it makes it even more fun to play. Get those Junimo huts and save time picking up crops. You should be using all that space to grow trees to chop and replant for all that wood you will need.

Here's a snippet of a basic design I made using online farm planner for my farm corner. Design based on what I think I can achieve this season. It's pretty basic and I can only think about one of the four corners for now. I'll expand into those as time goes on and move the animal buildings out to one of those.

what really bothers me about this is the top-right set of crops. the four tiles in the top left of that section are untillable and so I have to fill it in with tea shrubs for now. but the asymmetry is deeply unsatisfying to me ... :/

Then remove the Junimo hut and move the crops over one tile. That then gives you a two tile path down the middle to walk or plant some trees in a zig-zag pattern and then continue the tea plants all the way down to the path behind the barn.

I played solo split screen co-op and used those 3 characters to upgrade the cabins and get 3 more copies of all the museum rewards / quest rewards / special items around the map.

No, fences are mostly a convenience so you can pet them. But I'll be adding fences. This is the Hill-top farm map, where the sheds are is a quary for mining.

As long as you leave the coop/barn door open, the animals will teleport inside if they get stuck or fall asleep somewhere. So I just hope there are no bad consequences from never closing the door.

This early game don't worry too much about layout as it will fluctuate over time and just make money. Keep the buildings close to your house to save time doing chores and I'd plant trees in all the open space on the farm and keep chopping and replanting them because you will need a lot of wood for crafting and buildings. @neon thicket Also put a fence around the animals so that it's easier to pet them and pick up the truffles.

Can someone show me their greenhouse design?

I’m getting ready to set mine up and I want to utilize the space in the best way possible but I don’t know how

So it would be nice if I had something to base it off of

My friend showed me this layout a while back. It uses 4 iridium sprinklers instead of 6 and 8 quality sprinklers just for symmetry purposes. I also like to add some lamp posts around the area just to add some light in case it's night. I also like adding iron bars between the quality sprinklers cause I like how they look lol

For the sprinklers i actually like to use 4 with pressure nozzles. 2 are inside and 2 on the outside. You can use 5 sprinkler and then just have one in the middle, but that one is not symmetrical

I have to cut 12 trees though but it seems worth it, because I get a ton of space, that i might mostly use to decorate different sheds
