You need full grown untapped trees on the farm

#

And then in fall everyday the game checks to see if the mushroom event will happen or not

#

and if it does a certain number of tiles are chosen on the farm and if they have the tree untapped they become mushroom

I played from Winter Y11 to Summer Y12 last night and made these changes to my farm. Put the Obelisks in a front row to see the art better and make room for another shed and redid the animal area to make room for another Junimo hut grow area and my last 2 mushroom spots finally filled after a 2y gap where none filled. Only took 10 yrs to grow the mushroom forest!
@drowsy rune slick. Looks great man, also definitely not jealous that you have room for slime hutch

Best way to get is to leave a large number of full grown trees on the farm and just wait, it will happen eventually wherever it decides too

#

Once you get one leave the area around it clear and it will seed just like evey other tree and then you prune the ones you dont want

#

Next playthrough Im def gonna leave a bunch around the pond and hope to grow a forest there

To spot the change, check the crop areas! I've taken down fences and have added the dark pathing that once only circled the crops. The crops are now highlighted with tealeaves. In addition to that i've taken down the hardwood fences in favor of seasonal plants! :)

yeah cause I like it when grass peeks out between my path stones

and also I don't like it when it's part dirt, part grass cause I feel it kinda limits my options, like... if I let the ground show through it looks patchy

and basically I think the dirt is ugly except in v small amounts around water and stuff. so if there's a lot of dirt on the map I feel compelled to cover it all with tall grass so I can pretend it's not there xD
